Analysis of the Thermoelectric Devices' Power Generation Performance for Utilizing the Waste Heat of LED Tunnel Lighting Module

In this paper, we propose the LED(Light-Emitting-Diode) emergency lighting in a tunnel by using the thermoelectric devices. To achieve high generated power, thermoelectric device should be have high Seebeck coefficient and small contact area. Also, we reveal that a moderate heatsink required for high generated power. From the waste heat of LED tunnel lighting module (25W), the generated power was 0.062W by thermoelectric device, and it could illuminate for 1hour after charge the battery of emergency lighting during about 101hours.
Melatonin Suppression under LED Lighting Focused on Spectral Power Distribution Differences

Changes in melatonin concentration levels by differences in CCT of white LED light focused on Spectral Power Distribution (SPD) differences compared to the same CCT of conventional fluorescent light were analyzed. For this, melatonin concentration levels in saliva samples were taken over four different experiments at seven-day intervals. In 71.4% of participants, it was confirmed that melatonin concentration is suppressed by exposure to light, and a slight difference was observed by different CCTs. In addition, Experiment II with a high CCT was relatively high in terms of the melatonin suppression rate compared to Experiment III. A key finding was the possibility that different SPDs under a particular CCT of white LED light compared to the same CCT of conventional fluorescent light could have the same effect on the melatonin suppression.

Digitalization of the substation in Korea has been in progress so far with focusing on Station Bus. However, its application to Process Bus has been delayed due to some technical issues. IEDs based on Process Bus use the data values of SV and GOOSE. As the size of communication data on Process Bus is comparatively bigger than that of Station Bus, it is very important for the evaluating the performance of Process Bus to analyze the transferring speed and quality of data from the first equipment, which is located on process level, to station level. According to the results of related studies, it is said that the most important factor for the design and operation of Process Bus network is the communication delay with consideration of the volume of packets. In the paper, the results of performance test for the network with and without application of VLAN on Process Bus system that uses integrated IEDs are presented. Additionally, the paper proposes the optimal method to analyze the communication delays of network systems through evaluating the maximum delay time, link process ratio and the amount of lost packets by using a simulation tool.
Advanced Distance Relaying of on a Double Circuit Transmission Line

This paper proposes an advanced distance relaying based on the DC offset removal filter to minimize the effects of DC offset on a double circuit transmission line. The proposed DC offset removal filter uses only one cycle of data for phasor extraction computation, which does not need to preset the time constant of the DC offset component. This proposed distance relaying uses not only the residual current of the faulted circuit but also mutual current of the healthy adjacent circuit. A series of off-line test results using ATP simulation data show the effectiveness of the an advanced distance relaying.

This paper presents the surface flashover mechanism of a laminated solid dielectric and describes the surface flashover characteristics with the inherent capacitance of the laminated solid dielectric in a
mixture gas (8:2) under an quasi uniform field. It was found that the electron emission at a cathode and the high-local electric field region around an anode were important factors to reasonably describe the surface flashover mechanism. The surface flashover voltage by the mechanism decreased with the inherent capacitance increase of the laminated solid dielectric. In addition to the surface flashover mechanism and its characteristics, the surface flashover voltage equations as a function of the inherent capacitance were derived by considering a gas pressure used in future eco-friendly GIS and the factors influencing the surface flashover.
Control Scheme of Emergency Power Supply for Elevator Emergency Call System

In this paper, battery charging and discharging circuit with a single voltage power supply is proposed. The proposed circuit has the separated current path and charging-monitoring sequence control scheme. In the charging sequence, the proposed 2-level comparator combined with control signal of the micro-processor can control the constant charging current to protect the over current of the battery. Furthermore, the proposed circuit uses a periodic main power switch control to detect the discharging characteristics to estimate the approximated battery life-time. In the experiments, the proposed emergency power supply for emergency call system has 89% efficiency with 98% power factor. And the proposed sequence control scheme is well operated in the designed emergency power system.
Study on Measurement Method of Dielectric Recovery Voltage to analysis Dielectric Recovery Characteristic of Molded Case Circuit Breaker

Molded Circucit Breaker(MCCB) is a most widely used device to protect loads from the over-current in low power level distribution system. When the MCCB interrupts the over-current, the arc discharge occurred between fixed contact and moving contact to create hot gas. By the Lorentz force due to arc current, the occurred arc is bent to the grids. The grids extend and cool and divide it for arc extinguish. In the majority cases, the MCCB protects loads by interrupting the over-current successfully but in some cases the re-ignition is occurred by hot-gas created during process of interruption. The re-ignition arises when the recovery voltage(RV) is more higher than the recovery strength between contacts and it leads to interruption fault. Therefore to find out the dielectric recovery characteristics of protecting device has a great importance for preventing interruption fault. In this paper, we studies measurement method of the dielectric recovery characteristics considering inherent attribute of the MCCB. To measure the dielectric recovery characteristic of MCCB, we makes an experiment circuit for applying the over-current and the randomly recovery voltage. The measurement methode to find out the dielectric recovery voltage of the MCCB was established and the result was based on experiment results.
Switching Method to Minimize the Current Ripple of 3-Phase Interleaved Bidirectional DC-DC Converter in Light Load Operation

This paper deals with a switching method to minimize the current ripple component of 3-phase interleaved bidirectional DC-DC converter for charging and discharging of the battery. The characteristics of the output current ripple in 3-phase and 2-phase operation modes according to the variation of battery voltage is analyzed and a phase conversion method for minimizing the magnitude of the current ripple is proposed. The proposed method can extend the light load range because the switching frequency is lower than that of a 3-phase operating system. Simulation and experimental results show the usefulness of the proposed method.

This paper presents the surface flashover characteristics to simulate the poor contact between an anode and a solid dielectric in a
mixture gas (8/2) under a non-uniform field. The surface flashover voltage of the
mixture gas revealed the irregular tendency that was not in accordance with the Paschen's law with an increasing gap of the poor contact. In addition, the insulation performance of the
mixture gas at 0.6MPa was comparable to that of
gas of 0.1MPa based on the insulation performance on the poor contact. These results are able to apply the insulation design of eco-friendly gas insulation switchgear considering the internal faults.
Symmetrical Cockcroft-Walton circuit for Transformerless High Step-Up DC-DC Converter

High Step-up DC-DC Converters have been demanded for renewable energy applications. Transformer or coupled inductor is generally used to boost output voltage of converters. This methods can relatively obtain high voltage than others, whereas have heavy weight and high cost. To complement these disadvantages, we studied transformerless high step-up DC-DC converter. In various transformerless topologies, Boost converters combined with Cockcroft-Walton have studied. In this paper, we proposed a symmetrical Cockcroft-Walton circuit for transformerless high step-up DC-DC converter. Finally, we simulated proposed converter to compare with existing converter. As a result, proposed converter has higher duty ratio or lower cost than existing transformerless converters which are discussed in this paper.
A Hybrid Fiber-Optic Sensor System for Multi-Stress Condition Monitoring of Wind Turbines

A hybrid fiber-optic sensor system which combines fiber Bragg grating sensors and a Michelson interferometer has been constructed and evaluated for condition monitoring of large scale wind turbines. In order to measure multiple stresses applied to wind turbines such as strain, temperature and vibration, the system uses single broadband light source. It addresses both types of sensors, which simplifies the optical setup and enhances the cost-effectiveness of condition monitoring system. An athermal-packaged FBG is used to supply quasi-coherent light, of which coherence length is about 3.28mm, for the Michelson interferometer demodulation. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed fiber-optic sensor system was capable of measuring strain and temperature with measurement accuracy of 1pm. Also 500~2000Hz vibration signals were successfully analyzed by applying FFT signal processing to interference signals.
A Study on the Adequate Capacity of Substation Transformer for Offshore Wind Farm

This study suggests the methodology to decide the number and adequate capacity of substation transformer in a large-scale offshore wind farm (OWF). The recent trend in transformer capacity of offshore substation is analyzed in many European offshore wind farm sites prior to entering the studies. In order to carry out the economic evaluation for the transformer capacity we present the cost models which consist of investment, operation, and expected energy not supplied (EENS) cost as well as the probabilistic wind power model of wind energy that combines the wind speed with wind turbine output characteristics for a exact calculation of energy loss cost. Economic assessment includes sensitivity analysis of parameters which could impact the 400-MW OWF: average wind speed, availability, discount rate, energy cost, and life-cycle.
Fill Factor of Rotor of Single Phase Induction Motor for the Capability Improvement of 1/4 HP Compressor

This paper discusses to the capability improvement of the 1/4 HP compressor. And, for efficiency improvement of the single phase induction motor, this paper has proposed a casting method to improving the fill factor of the rotor of the single phase induction motor. First, by using FEM, it was analyzed the magnetic flux distribution and the fill factor to the SPIM rotor by the conventional method and the proposed method. And, based on the FEM analysis results, SPIMs are manufactured by the each casting process. Through experiments using dynamometer, they were compared and measured to their efficiencies. In addition, through experiments using Calorimeter, we have analyzed the refrigerating capacity of the compressor of which they were applied. Based on the results of the previous two experiments, they are to verify the validity of the proposed method.

Power plant is that very high reliability when industrial and economic impact on the overall electric power system is required, it is essential to improve the reliability, especially the fault prediction diagnosis. Since an accident caused by the partial discharge in the power plant is above state has a faster response characteristic than the other indications in the case of any, the partial discharge generated in the power plant immediately detect the deterioration of insulation due to the accident of the power plant and the non-drawn It should prevent or reduce. Partial Discharge Measuring Systems for UHV SF6 Gas Insulated Switchgear and power transformer on site installed has some probability of abnormal recognition in case of non-flexible deal with on site noise. Many methode to eliminate these kinds of noises, UHF Detection System is chosen as purchase description in Korea, but this system having a bandwidth between 500MHz 1.5GHz wide band. Initial install periods(about 20 years ago), this band had no strong signal source, but in these days this wide band have strong signals, such as LTE. So, module described in this paper is designed as simultaneously use with wide and narrow band for solve this noise problem, and introduce this system.
