Three-Dimensional Free Vibration Analysis of Orthotropic Plates

This paper presents the three-dimensional stress analysis of orthotropic thick plates using the three-dimensional spline strip method based on the theory of elasticity. The orthotropic plates are made of Aragonite crystal and sitka spruce. To demonstrate the convergence and accuracy of the present method, several examples are solved, and results are compared with those obtained by other exact and numerical methods based on the theory of elasticity. Good convergence and accuracy are obtained. The effects of thickness/width ratio, aspect ratio and boundary conditions on normal stress distributions of Aragonite crystal plates and sitka spruce plates are investigated. Moreover, the difference of weak orthotropic and strong orthotropic properties given to the characteristics of stress distributions are also shown.
A Conceptual Model for Automated Cost Estimating Using Work Information Classification System of Apartment House

The study presents work information classification system of apartment house which can organize all construction management services throughout the planning and management of a construction such as the decomposition of the design process, the assembly of construction process and cost estimating, etc. In addition, the study suggested a way to connect work information classification system based on a relational database in working order and built a conceptual model for automated cost estimating by utilizing established data base. A conceptual model for automated cost estimating will resolve the fundamental problems of the existing cost estimating system and will be able to take advantage of scientific cost estimating system at the construction site of apartment house.
Development of a Practical Rutting Characterization Method for Bituminous Mixtures

The main objective of materials testing is to simulate in-situ field conditions as closely as possible, including loading conditions, climatic conditions, etc. Also, the test method should be easy, inexpensive, simple, and efficient to conduct to become an acceptable standard laboratory testing method for many agencies. Based on these reasons, a new test method employing repetitive axial loading with confinement was developed to evaluate the rutting(permanent deformation) of asphalt concrete. The new laboratory test protocol was developed based on the study of the various structural analysis and field data. This protocol divides asphalt layer(s) into three categories depending upon the depth. Different temperatures and vertical stress levels were used in these areas.

Chemical accidents are the cause of the accident site during the initial responders to quickly and easily see materials and concentration method for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) is widely used in the initial response team direct reading detection equipment used. Evaluation of Geogrid-Reinforced Track substructure Effectiveness Using A Large-Scale Pullout Device

A number of attempts has been made to reinforce ballasted track substructure to meet the requirement of high-speed operation and effective rehabilitation of existing railroads. For the purpose of this, the use of geogrid has been applied, and the benefit of its use has been recognized via previous studies. In this study, an experimental pullout test was carried out to investigate the influence of normal stress on pullout strength of geogrid using different types of soil and geogrid. The results revealed that the pullout resistance generally tends to increase proportional to normal stress while the pullout coefficient interaction decreases, which is a function of material interface properties, such as the friction angle of soil, and interlocking condition between soil and geogrid. In addition, a methodology based on work-energy concept was proposed to evaluate effectiveness of geogrid and limitedly verified using test results.
Analysis of Catchment Area of Seoul Metropolitan Express Train

For the demand analysis of Metropolitan Train Express project, the catchment area of station should be reevaluated considering the journey speed of it. In this paper, we estimated travel mode choice model using stated preference data including Seoul metropolitan express train and compared the parameters of access/egress travel time between existing metro and Seoul metropolitan express train. The parameter of Seoul metropolitan express train is 2.5 times smaller than that of existing metro. Consequently, the catchment area can be expanded in same proportion. It can be concluded that the result of demand forecasting can be increased by 10% accommodating the expanded catchment area.
A Experimental Study on the Flexural Behavior of Bundle Type Polyamide Fiber Reinforced Concrete

Synthetic fiber reinforced concrete is applicable to many applications for construction material. In general, synthetic fibers have low tensile strength and elastic modulus, but they have many advantages such as high crack resistance, impact resistance, chemical resistance, flexural behavior and corrosion free in fiber reinforced concrete. Recently, fiber reinforced concrete with macro synthetic fibers has been used to improve performance of structures in tunnel shotcrete, precast segmental lining and bridge slab and precast concrete structures. This study investigated the influence of bundled type polyamide fiber reinforced concrete on the flexural behavior in accordance with ASTM C 1609 and KS F 2566 standards.
Study on the Thermal Characteristic Comparison of Fire.Explosion Hazard of Fugitive Dust Generated in the Manufacturing Process

This study carried out an experiment in order to compare thermal characteristics after collecting dust generated in the process of disposing of waste tire, plywood flour in the process of manufacturing plywood, salicylic acid dust in the process of manufacturing functional soap, and dust in the process of manufacturing wheat powder, which has potential fire and explosion hazard. According to the results of experiment, the analysis showed that all samples subject to the experiment were in the condition where heat flux decreased and temperature decreased as the quantity of added talc was increased. This shows that decomposition rate decreased, and hazard decreased. However, in all of samples subject to the experiment, as heating rate increased, endothermic onset temperature moved to the low-temperature part, and the amount of absorbed heat was largely increased. This showed that the decomposition hazard of sample increased as heating rate increased, according to the analysis. Besides, TGA experiment results showed that thermal stability was secured because total weight loss decreased as the amount of talc was increased for all samples subject to the experiment regarding the ratio of weight loss. It is expected that the continuous research and supplementation of dust explosion mechanism in the future will contribute to the establishment of measures for the effective dust explosion prevention.
A Study on the System Development of Safety Control Plane at Home Using the Personal Digital Assistant

During earthquake, the safety control plane at home is very important to prepare the turnover and falling accident of furniture as a disaster measures. But a lot of people might not have knowledge and education on the safety control plane at home such as the fixing of furniture. Therefore, in this study, the test application of iPhone was developed to enlighten and educate them using the smart phone. Through this application, residents, furniture store employees, moving service workers, builders and etc. will be able to understand the safety control plane at home.
A Study on Status Survey for the Improvement of Shelter Facilities for Residents

purpose of this study was to conduct status survey on existing shelter facilities for residents and use it as basic material to plan and design improved shelter facilities in the future. As the result, first, although existing shelter facilities are judged to have been designed in consideration only of the protection from high explosive shells, actual protection capability is significantly low against high explosive shells when exit direction and protection capabilities of main entrances were investigated. Second, all the 7 facilities did not have air purifier with filters installed for the air that flows into the inside from outside and since the height of air exhausts and intake pipes in the outside are also close to the earth, there are possibilities that heavy contaminated air can flow into the inside. Third, although some facilities have anti-explosion doors installed, it is impossible to use them as chemical, biological and radiological (CBR) shelter because of improper installation of openings and anti-explosion valves as well as poor plumbing that cannot ensure air-tightness and poor finish of piping penetration.
A prototype package for predicting and rapidly responding chemical and nuclear disasters

A new prototype software package has been developed by integrating two existing programs designed to predict and maneuver chemical and nuclear disasters in order to set up a response system for dealing with the combined two disasters. The protype is designed to be mainly used by civil defence officers, together with an identification of 625 scenarios of chemical and nuclear disasters. The package is expected to contribute to upgrade a more systematic regional public protection plan for chemical and nuclear disasters. In addition, it enables all relevant local divisions to share disaster information in real time, resulting in a minimization of possible fatal damages.
Experimental and Analytical Study on the Water Level Detection and Early Warning System with Intelligent CCTV

In this research, we developed video analytic algorithms to detect water-level automatically and a system for proactive alarming using intelligent CCTV cameras. We applied these algorithms and a system to test-beds and verified for practical use. We made camera-selection policies and operation plans to keep the detection accuracy high and to optimize the suitability for the ever-changing weather condition, while the environmental factors such as camera shaking and weather condition can affect to detection accuracy. The estimation result of algorithms showed 90% detection accuracy for all CCTV camera types. For water level detection, NIR camera performed great. NIR camera performed over 95% accuracy in day or night, suitable in natural weather condition such as shaking condition, fog, and low light, needs similar installment skills with common cameras, and spends only 15% high cost. As a result, we practically tested water level detection algorithms and operation system based on intelligent CCTV camera. Furthermore, we expect the positive evidences when it is applied for public use.
Comparative Study of Safety Regulations: Focused on the Applied Frameworks of ensuring product safety in Korea and Japan

Recently, Korea has enacted the Framework Act on Product Safety to allow comprehensive control of product safety accidents. This is a government policy aiming to ensure product safety and customer protection by strengthening the obligation of producers. However, the framework has not yet been completed in Korea. Therefore, this paper deals with improvement assignments and directions by comparing the frameworks of applied in Korea and Japan for ensuring such production safety.
Dynamic Characteristics of Revolution Shells

This paper proposes a simple and effective method for determining the dynamic characteristics of revolution shells. This is a weighted residual method in which the collocation points are taken at the roots of orthogonal polynomial. In this paper the collocation method is employed to replace a partical differential eqations by a system of ordinary differential equations in time, and the resulting equations are solved by two different numerical methods of time integration : an implicit method and an explicit method. The proposed approach is formulated in some detail. The versatility and accuracy are illustrated through several numerical examples. The method appears to be relatively easy to set up and gives satisfactory results.
Analysis of Monthly Excavation Length Depending on Ground Condition and TBM Diameter

This study analyzed monthly excavation length and amount of time occupied by the work item based on drilling reports to record the entire work process of TBM tunnel site. TBM equipment(
) was developed by WIRTH company in Germany. In addition, This study analyzed rising expected monthly excavation length based on the lowest loss rate of operating shifts among the field of nine. Analysis results are confident to be a useful tool when Planning and Managing TBM method construction to the primary planning steps in the field similar to geological conditions and analyzed geological conditions.
A Study on the Consciousness of Fare-fighting Officers for the Establishment and Pevitalization of Integrated Disaster Management System

In this study, the problems in the domestic disaster management system were identified through the examination of the system, relevant implications were drawn through the present status of domestic integrated disaster management system, and the consciousness survey for the integrated disaster management system targeting fire-fighting officers in the front line of the disaster was carried out to identify the measures to improve the system. Based on the findings, the measures to establish and revitalize the integrated disaster management system was presented, and the contents of the measures are as follows. In order to establish and revitalize the integrated disaster management system, the following measures should be prepared for each item. In the organizational aspect, the coordination system between government agencies should be established properly and the relevant information should he shared and delivered smoothly. In the legal and institutional aspect, the improvement is required to prevent any miscommunications in the coordination and joint operation plan through the collaboration between government agencies should be established in consideration of characteristics of each government agency. Also, in the aspect of system, the equipment should be maintained and updated continuously in order to respond to rapidly changing disasters and the organization, laws, institutions and system should be improved systematically and harmoniously. And, the detailed measures appropriate for the characteristics of domestic disasters should be prepared through the examination of advantages and disadvantages of integrated disaster management system in advanced countries in details and the detailed plans for the establishment of integrated situation management system in relevant organizations and the unification of situation room through the establishment of efficient integrated management system should be established.
A Study on the Design of CBRN Response Training Program in Korea Using Activity-Action Diagram Method

The development of science and technology to accompany the convenience of civilization but in addition to nuclear, gas, explosion, accident and spill all over the world with the possibility of a chemical or biological terrorism response efforts collectively as a response to the urgent task of a nation. In this study major economies such as the U.S. and Canada analyzed to investigate the CBRN training programs to fit the reality in Korea CBRN training programs were developed. also the development of training programs to CBRN Korean Activity-Action Diagram technique utilized by CBRN scenarios corresponding to each event needs to be taken when the Activity is defined by its detailed definition of corrective actions for the CBRN Activity to define context-sensitive actions in particular to enable the functionality of the structure in case of CBRN emergency initial response was to establish education and training programs.
