A Study on Planning and Geometric Design of Underground Roads

Plans of underground roads have been established, and the possibilities of underground road constructions have been growing in Korea. However, the study on characteristics of underground roads, the enactment of law, and the establishment of design criteria haven't been conducted so far, if any. Based on these backgrounds, the paper presents the basic direction on the construction method of underground roads. It also investigates the needs and characteristics of underground roads and reviews domestic and foreign examples. Major results by implementing the research are as follows: 1) when selecting the route of underground roads, the use of underground space, technical aspects, and traffic systems should be comprehensively considered; 2) the design speed of underground roads will be 10km/h above the speed limit to secure safety; 3) disaster prevention facilities should be planned to connect high traffic management system for coping with unexpected situations. Although this study has a limitation that hasn't reflected the driver's characteristics on new spaces such as underground roads, it has some significance that it suggests the major reviewing issues on the construction of underground roads, and presents the direction through the previous study.
A Survey of Human Injury and Crowd Packing in Mass Gathering

This study was performed for identifying the characteristics of mass gathering and human injury in mass gathering based on the literature survey and analysis of mass gathering and crowd packing. The size and density of crowd influenced the characteristics of mass gathering according to type of mass gathering. The variables and causes of human injuries of mass gathering have positive or negative influences based on the weather, attendance, duration, location, mobility, event type, crowd mood, alcohol, drug, crowd density and age. Based on the physical mechanism of crowd packing, the degree of crowd packing was influenced by crowd pressure, crowd density and lasting time. But the magnitude of pressure for pedestrian injury criteria remains for further research.
The Chloride Ion Diffusion Characteristics of High Performance Lightweight Concrete Using Metakaolin

The objectives of this study is replaced Silicafume with Metakaolin that is used to lightweight concrete to better performance. So, this study made high-performance lightweight concrete using Metakaolin and characteristics od the fundamental properties and chloride ion diffusion. Consequently, it is compressive strength and chloride ion penetration resistance is lower than lightweight concrete using Silicafume, the performance of compressive strength contrast Silicafume is about 88 to 95%. Also, this study got a content result because the chloride ion penetration resistance showed the performance in around 80 to 90%. As a result, this study insist that replacement ratio of Metakaolin is suitable for 10 to 15%.Silicafume and Metakaolin have similar characteristics. In addition, it is similar to the performance of alternative materials is possible.
An Evaluation of Mechanical Characteristics of Modified Asphalt Concrete Mixture

Many researches have been conducted to evaluate the performance of modified asphalt concrete mixtures. The research was conducted to estimate the laboratory mechanical characteristics of Elvaloy-modified asphalt concrete mixture. To achieve its intended objective, indirect tensile test and resilient modulus test were performed. The rest results revealed that indirect tensile strengths and resilient moduli of the Elvaloy-modified asphalt concrete mixture were higher than those of the conventional dense-graded. As a result, within the limits of the tests conducted in this research, it is predicted that the performance and stability of the Elvaloy-modified asphalt concrete mixture are better than that of the conventional dense-graded one.
Properties of Advanced Synthetic Fiber Reinforced Concrete for Improvement of Tunnel Shotcrete Performance

The Application of Steel Fiber Shotcrete in tunneling construction has become part of tunneling practice at least since the 1970s because of its high bending and tensile properties. Over the past 3 decades, researcher from all over the world have been significantly developing the associated technologies for improved performance of SFRS. But still it has some major drawbacks in terms of durability, damage of pumping hose, wastage due to rebound concrete, corrosion and it costs high. To overcome this situation researcher has to look for some alternative material. Therefore, this part study deals with the three types of fiber in order to find good alternative for steel fiber. Polyamide and Polypropylene fiber were used in this study with 0.6, 0.5% mixing ratio. To evaluate its fresh and harden properties air content, slump, compressive, split tensile and bending strength were measured. After comparing the results of all three types of fiber reinforced concrete with its different mixing proportion this study propose that polyamide fiber with addition ratio of 0.6 % for field use.
Study on Developing Basic Program for Preventing School Safety Accidents

The purpose of this study is to prevent some accidents from the tragedy related to school accidents in elementary, middle and high schools. However, it is necessary to establish the program of school safety and change the view of the safety because safety measures are being taken after the accident, not prevention. There are some resolution to prevent school accidents by developing manuals, educating school safety for teachers, utilizing audio-video education and private organization, it is difficult for teachers to handle a fire alarm and electric safety inspection, and check condition of health, training experts through qualifying exams.
Fire Safety Measures for the Key Cultural Assets in Korea through Case Analysis

Cultural properties should be protected more than other facility because of its symbolization of a nation's historic and conservative value. So proper and effective actions for the management of our legacies is necessary. On this study, we'll research cases of cultural properties fires and manage to show the safety system of legacy and analyze problems of the system so that we can result in improvements for the safety of our treasures. This study is not to include almost all kind of cultural assets but only confined in a category of wooden materials, so there's limit of this study. And we should consider fires of tangible cultural properties, souvenirs and folk materials later period.
Study on Behavior Characteristics of a Pile-Type Vessel Collision Protective Structure

In this study, the behavior were analyzed for the bow collision event. The model of protective Structure was consist of slab, RCP and non-linear soil spring. The ship was modeled by bow and midship. The bow model was composed by elastic-plastic shell elements, and the midship was composed by elastic solid element. According to the weight of the ship's change from DWT 10000 until DWT 25000 increments 5000. The head-on collision was assumed, its speed was 5knot. Analysis was carried out ABAQUS/Explicit. As the result, increasing the weight of the ship deformability in athletes and to increase the amount of energy dissipated by the plastic could be confirmed.
