A Comparative Study on Pavement Techniques for Steel Bridge Decks

The main purpose of this research is to propose advanced bridge-decks surfacing from the examples of In-Cheon bridge with Guss asphalt and Gyul-Hyeon bridge with stone matrix asphalt(SMA) concrete. The research results presented that the Guss asphalt concrete pavement was weak when rutting was developed due to the low resistance at high temperatures. The SMA concrete pavement demonstrated good resistance to plastic deformations and was easy to maintain pavement conditions. The results mentioned above are generalized in developed counties where surfacing pavement techniques for steel bridge-decks are advanced. However, due to the lack of construction experiences in Korea, appropriate construction guidelines and organized research for the steel bridge deck pavements are necessary for more advanced steel bridge decks surfacing.
A Study on the Operation Development Method through the Application Results Large-Diameter Tunnel

The application of TBM tunneling has been progressively increased since the first entrance into korea in 1985. In order to an apprehension and operation development of TBM method which has excellent boring in hard rock tunnel, this study has analyzed mutual relation of lose time and TBM boring from actual construction results TBM tunneling. This study compared this analyzed results with TBM tunnelling construction results of korea, america, japan, analyzed a primary factor of TBM boring effect and suggested operation development method from the analyzed results. accordingly this study can be used an index when contract apply TBM method to planning steps.
Analysis of Road Pavement Condition and Structural Improvement Plan

In this study, the damages and condition of road pavement were analyzed using pavement management system (PMS) for the structural improvement. Problems of road pavement management were issued by in-depth interview with workers in charge of plant, construction and supervision. By surveying advanced road pavement management, the way how to improve road pavement management in Seoul was discussed. In conclusion, it is necessary to take measures against road heavy traffic and heavy rain in summer. It was found that the problem of early damages of road pavement due to uniform layout with analyzing life cycle cost (LCC). According to the results of survey, it was suggested to strength practical training and to control precisely the temperature of pavement in the process of production and construction.
Ship Collision Behaviors of Offshore Wind Tower on Bucket Foundation

In this paper, the various parametric study of collisions between a offshore wind tower and vessels were performed to estimate the ultimate behaviors of the bucket foundation and the tower. Additionally, the stability of the foundation and the energy dissipation capacities of the tower were analyzed. The results shows that the collision energy of the vessel was mainly dissipated by the plastic deformation energy of the tower and the foundation system shown enough bearing capacity against to this severe loading condition.
A Study on the Estimation for the Flow Coefficient of Elevator Shaft

Recently, evacuation safety of building residents becomes the major concern, as the building has been higher and more complicated. Many high-rise multi use buildings are under construction in Korea. Required evacuation time using stairway is longer in high-rise buildings, moreover it is impossible for the disabled to evacuate by using stairway. For this reason the study on the effectiveness of using elevator for evacuation is being progressed. Elevator shaft flow coefficient is the major factor for the calculation of elevator piston effect. The results of this study can be used for the study of elevator piston effect as basic data. The flow coefficient simulation was performed using FLUENT, commercial CFD program. As a result of the flow coefficient simulation, the coefficient is 0.88 considering the safety factor. This result is verified that the result of experimental study, 0.86 is conservative.
A Study on Effective Methods to Enhance the Role of Private Security Firm for security Management in the Site of Performing Arts Events

Citizens'income has been increased along with the trend of rapid changes in society, and the quality of their lives has been improved as well. As much as the degree of increase of quality of life, the number of spectators for performing art events, etc. who desire to fulfill their needs for enjoyment of varied cultural performances have been increasing, and also a large number of spectators enjoys a variety of festivals being held in each provincial area as well as international events: we still remember such frantic rooting shown by citizens during 2002 World Cup drawing attention and interest of entire nation. There are always risks of loss of human lives if accidents occur as there sult of close-packed crowd gathered at the same time. Therefore, it is required to prepare adequate security measures in order to prevent various accidents before hand. It is hoped that this research work would be of help for further efficient and systematic security management for the performing arts centers or public theaters encouraging the event organizer and the private security firm and the Korea Private Security Association to exert great effort and investments in further projects for development of security technology. Also, it is required to build a performance culture to consider audience's safety first from the beginning to the end of the event on the basis of efficient security management. Furthermore, spect at or sare required to recognize the fact that safety in the site for performing arts should be guaranteed for everyone's sake, and, to achieve this, they are obliged to be more cooperative with the event organizer and the private security firm, forming a trinity all together, in order not to have safety threatening situations in the site of performing arts events.
A Study on the Current State Analysis of the Korean and Japanese Residence Evacuation Plans

To protect the life and property of the residence from diverse disasters, we have collected and analyzed the domestic and foreign residence evacuation plans. The results and proposals from the study can be summarized as in following. First, the contents and items in civil defense emergency evacuation plan guidelines should be stipulated more clearly and its' application should be extended. Second, uniformity must be established in non-coherent contents between cities and counties. Third, disaster-prone people are not considered in the evacuation plans. The disaster-prone people must be accounted by each cities and counties and an evacuation plan for them must be established. Fourth, most of the rooms for residence evacuations are second to third level, and they are defenseless against disasters like CBRNE. Considering these conditions, deploying transportation means that can support large-scale evacuations, quickly and effectively, must also be considered.
Developing on MOE's Information System for providing Chemical Accident Emergency Information

Owing to the increase of chemical usage, ordinary people are frequently exposed to chemicals and chemical products. Thus, demand on emergency response to chemical accidents is rapidly increasing. Also, as new chemicals continue to be introduced to the market, information system on chemicals need to be consistently updated. Under the circumstances, the MOE(Ministry of Environment) has established a comprehensive 24-hour web-based CEIS(Chemical accident Emergency response Information System) which contains more various material information for wider range of users from governmental organization to the general public.
Dynamic Parameter Estimation of a CANDU Type Containment Using Ambient Vibration Measurements

Dynamic parameters such as natural frequencies can provide global stiffness information of a structure, and thus be utilized in monitoring structural integrity of large structures such as a containment. To identify the dynamic parameters without interrupting normal operation, a modal analysis method based on ambient vibration measurements should be applied. In this study, dynamic parameters of the containment of Wolsong Unit 2 are identified using ambient vibration measurement data. The feasibility of the study is verified using a numerical model for the containment. From the modal analysis, dynamic parameters of the containment with acceptable correlation to analytical modes can be estimated.
Vertical Vibration Isolator for Reducing Structural Vibration

In these days, the design of a structure for reducing or eliminating noise and vibration is getting more important, as the social demands for reducing environmental pollution rise. In this paper, the basic concept and performance verification test results of the recently developed vertical vibration isolator are presented. The isolator attenuates vibration using the damping action from the friction plane made of PTFE and provides the restoring force from the polyurethane springs arranged in vertical and horizontal directions. The performance verification tests consist of a test for identifying performance change during load rate variation and a test for confirming the force-displacement relationship assumption in vibration force range.
