Improving of land-cover map using IKONOS image data
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 11, issue 2, 2003, Pages 101~117
High resolution satellite image analysis has been recognized as an effective technique for monitoring local land-cover and atmospheric changes. In this study, a new high resolution map for land-cover was generated using both high-resolution IKONOS image and conventional land-use mapping. Fuzzy classification method was applied to classify land-cover, with minimum operator used as a tool for joint membership functions. In separateness analysis, the values were not great for all bands due to discrepancies in spectral reflectance by seasonal variation. The land-cover map generated in this study revealed that conifer forests and farm land in the ground and tidal flat and beach in the ocean were highly changeable. The kappa coefficient was 0.94% and the overall accuracy of classification was 95.0%, thus suggesting a overall high classification accuracy. Accuracy of classification in each class was generally over 90%, whereas low classification accuracy was obtained for classes of mixed forest, river and reservoir. This may be a result of the changes in classification, e.g. reclassification of paddy field as water area after water storage or mixed use of several classification class due to similar spectral patterns. Seasonal factors should be considered to achieve higher accuracy in classification class. In conclusion, firstly, IKONOS image are used to generated a new improved high resolution land-cover map. Secondly, IKONOS image could serve as useful complementary data for decision making when combined with GIS spatial data to produce land-use map.
Designing Database Contents of Spatial Data Warehouse and its Data Synchronization with Distributed Geographic Information Systems in Seoul Metropolitan Government
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 11, issue 2, 2003, Pages 119~130
Since GIS strategic implementation plan was prepared in 1995, Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) has implemented the distributed GIS at department level, which prevents various SMG organizations from data-sharing and its common utilization. To solve those problems due to the fragmented GIS structure, SMG developed an action plan for the evolution of enterprise GIS with Spatial Data Warehouse (SDW). In this context, this paper initially analyzed the conceptual architecture of SDW structure and then provided the following guidelines for 1) determining the common GIS data and framework data stored at SDW to satisfy the demand for various GIS data from many SMG departments and sub-organizations, 2) developing the data synchronization process and techniques to make effective data-sharing possible, and 3) making an action plan for enterprise GIS of other self-governmental organizations.
A Study of Privacy Protection of Location Information in Internet GIS Environment
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 11, issue 2, 2003, Pages 131~142
The Location Based Services comprised GIS and Telecommunication allow users to receive various services based on their geographic location. It is need to legislation to encourage the provision and use of location information by providing privacy protection to users. But the contents of the legislation proposed by Korean government have problems conflicted between protection of a person's location information and invigoration of location-based services. The purpose of this study is to search complementary measures for privacy protection of location information from a viewpoint of effective management strategy for geographic information.
Calculation of Runoff in Flood Basin Using GIS
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 11, issue 2, 2003, Pages 143~153
In order to investigate the effect of a pouring rain that it follows in the typhoon, the effect analysis with actual measurement data of rainfall outflow it follows in flood basin is necessary. Also there is a case that it analyzes with the fact that the rainfall occurs identically in whole basin in case of the rainfall outflow analysis, but the actual rainfall distribution from the basin very will be irregular and the interpretation which it reflects must become accomplished. It created spatial information of terrain, land use and the soil using GIS. It created topographical factor of the subject area and calculated CN(runoff curve number) with WMS(Watershed Modeling System). It calculated runoff using a HEC-1 model and the Rational Method connected at the WMS. By connecting GIS and WMS, it calculated the effect of a pouring rain and runoff from the construction area. Also it will be able to apply with a basic data in more efficient runoff analysis.
Development of Flood Inundation Analysis System for Urban Areas using GIS
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 11, issue 2, 2003, Pages 155~170
Flood inundation analysis system using GIS has been developed to simulate inundation in airport drainage areas. The model developed in this study has been synthetically presented and constructed the preprocess for database construction and input data preparing through a graphic user interface, GUI system and the postprocess processing graphically output resulted in mainprocess analysis model linked GIS(ArcView/Avenue). The mainprocess analysis model was simulated in real phenomenon caused by inflow of storm sewer system by simulation flooding due to backwater effect and surcharged flow in storm sewer system by simulating interaction coupling the overland flow analysis model and storm sewer system analysis model. In the future, the flood inundation analysis system developed in this study will be a great contribution to systematic decision-making for establishing the flood-mitigation management and facilities improvement plan to flooding damage in airport.
Defining of Trade Area using Spatial Data Mining Technique in Business GIS
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 11, issue 2, 2003, Pages 171~184
Lots of application systems are developed for applying business GIS in marketing or strategic planning of the company, recently. Almost of the systems require statistics for some areas(trade areas or sales areas) as the important information of decision support. As far as now, trade areas are defined for individual stores using know-how of the specialists, but there is no well-defined method for defining of trade areas of the specific business domains or trade areas of the customers. In this study, we have applied the spatial data mining methods to the point features in GIS, evaluated the results of each methods, and discussed the feasibility of defining of trade areas. From the results of this study, we have concluded that the defining of trade areas from point features, such as franchisees of credit card company or memberships of retail chain store, and that the DENCLUE(DENsity-based CLUstEring) method is the best suitable spatial data mining algorithm for this purpose.
A Study on Model of Constructing the Cultural Database System.
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 11, issue 2, 2003, Pages 185~201
The purpose of this study is to seek the methods of constructing a cultural information system based on GIS. It is impossible for regional culture to be formed apart from its surrounding space, so a study of culture should be based on realizing the features of its space. It is important to note that the elements composing a culture complicatedly interact with each other in their function and continuously change. Also they are interrelated in space and plentiful in their amount. Nevertheless, those studies practised so far in relation to culture and constructing cultural database are too limited in establishing cultural area or community life area required to recognize the regional identity So it is now essential that we should study the methods of cultural expression surpassing objective historical and cultural site maps instead of simple maps depicting historical remains or sites. From this viewpoint, this study tries to find various cultural phenomena in relation to their space through seeking the methods of constructing the cultural database model using XML. In addition, this study tries to construct a base for increasing the utilization of information in making the cultural contents.
