A Study of on the Forest Map Update Using Orthorecified High Resolution Satellite Imagery Data
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 12, issue 2, 2004, Pages 127~135
The operational availability of multispectral high-resolution satellite imagery, opens up new possibilities for updating forest map. Compared with information acquired by traditional methods (Panchromatic Aerial Photo), these data of for a number of advantages. In this study used 1m spatial resolution and 4 multispectral band, which are capability to update forest map of kind of tree. From the result of this study, First, the visual analysis of the colour composites of the multispectral data made it possible to distinguish some species(conifer, broad-leaved, un-stocked, arable land). Second, forest map and orthorectiffd satellite imagery are not match in the boundary of forest, therefore work have some troubles in the modification of forest map. Third, the distinguish from age-class, girth-class and density are much need experience and skillful about sample such as aerial photo.
A Geographic Modeling System Using GIS and Real Images
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 12, issue 2, 2004, Pages 137~149
For 3D modelling artificial objects with computers, we have to draw frames and paint the facet images on each side. In this paper, a geographic modelling system building automatically 3D geographic spaces using GIS data and real images of buildings is proposed. First, the 3D model of terrain is constructed by using TIN and DEM algorithms. The images of buildings are acquired with a camera and its position is estimated using vertical lines of the image and the GIS data. The height of the building is computed with the image and the position of the camera, which used for making up the frames of buildings. The 3D model of the building is obtained by detecting the facet iamges of the building and texture mapping them on the 3D frame. The proposed geographical modeling system is applied to real area and shows its effectiveness.
Study of the Data Exchange Format of GIS and CALS/EC System
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 12, issue 2, 2004, Pages 151~163
This study aims to develop a standard protocol by which users can exchange data information efficiently between KOSDIC and GIS. The ultimate goal from this study is to propose a data exchange format using KOSIC. The background of this study is that GIS industry sector is vigorously developing linked to spatial information construction such as UIS, LIS, EIS, AM/FM through supporting by regional government institution. According to do, the format of data transformation becomes major issue. GIS data can easily transfer to CAD version but when CAD data convert to GIS format (DWG->DXF->SHP) cannot get high success rate due to errors and problems. In addition, CAD data feature is made from oriental structure which is made of point and line faeture so that GIS system is impossible to data transformation. In the reason, the biggest problem is discordance of symbolization in integration and standard of data format. By investigation the usability of this study, conclusion are drawn efficient alternative plan in data transformation. Though this wort we will be able to provide a better transformation of data conversion between CAD format and GIS format. Accordingly, it is of important to enrich the integrated construction information infrastructure, which accommodates ever-changing constructions environment.
Design and Implementation of a Mapping Middleware for Wireless Internet Map Service
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 12, issue 2, 2004, Pages 165~179
With the spread of wireless internet, the interest in mobile applications and services is increasing. Korea Wireless Internet Standardization Forum has been establishing the standards for mobile platform and map service in the wireless internet environment. This study aims to present a paragon of mapping middleware that plays the role of broker for wireless internet map service: in particular, it focuses on the interoperability with generic map servers. In this study, we developed a method for applying current map servers to the wireless internet map service, and analyzed the request/response structure of the map servers which have different operation characteristics in order to allow our middleware to fully utilize the functionalities of the map servers. The middleware we developed is composed of .NET-based XML Web Services: it has a lightweight module for image map and a map representation module for choropleth map, symbol map, chart map, etc. This mapping middleware is a broker between mobile client and generic map server, and supports .NET clients and Java clients as well. Its component-based interoperability grants the extensibility for the wireless internet dedicated map servers of the future in addition to the current generic map servers.
The Study of Aerial Triangulation Using GPS
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 12, issue 2, 2004, Pages 181~191
Nowadays, GPS-photogrammetry can be applied to the basemap production, a land register and NGIS. And from now on, as the increase of GPS receiver rate, the study on the interpolation methods considering the exact movement of an aircraft at photoflight and the study on the supplement of GPS defect by INS are required continuously. GPS-Photogrammetry, which are based on the direct measurement of the projection centers and attitude at the moment of camera exposure time through loading the GPS receiver in aircraft. This photogrammetric methods can of for us to acquire the exterior orientation parameters with only minimum ground control points, even the ground control process could be completely skipped. Consequently, we can drastically reduce the time and cost far the mapping process. In this thesis, two test flights were conducted in area to evaluate the performance of accuracy and efficiency through the analysis of results between the two photogrammetric methods, that is, traditional photograrammetry, GPS-Photogrammetry. Test results shows that a large variety of advantages of GPS-Photogrammetry against traditional photogrammetry is to be verified. Especially, the number of ground control points for the exterior orientation could be saved more than 70～80%, and the cost far map production 30～50%, respectively. In addition, it was convinced that the large reduction of control points has not any effect on the block accuracy.
Analysis of the Emergency Medical Service Area Using GIS: the Case of Seoul
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 12, issue 2, 2004, Pages 193~209
The purpose of this study is to analyze the service area of emergency medical centers using GIS-based spatial analysis methods in Seoul, focusing on the behaviour of patients on the choosing of emergency centers. For this analysis, six emergency centers were selected to collect data for the information on the addresses of patients from September to November hi 2003. Analysis on the service area, which was carried out by measuring the distribution of patients in terms of distance from emergency medical centers, clearly reveals that the majority of patients was located within or adjacent districts at the emergency medical center. However, the size of the primary service area f3r six emergency medical centers was much different, implying that the decision to visit specific emergency medical center by patients was closely related to the size, perception, and preference of the emergency medical center. Based on the results of the spatial characteristics of emergency medical service area, this research tries to construct the surface map of the emergency medical service level supplied by 32 regional emergency medical centers located in Seoul. Considering the levels of infrastructure for emergency medical centers, the coverage for the degree of supply of emergency medical service by each emergency medical center was constructed in terms of a distance decaying in the distribution of patients from emergency medical center imposing different weights on distance bands. Spatial overlay utilizing map algebra function was performed in order to calculate total supply level of emergency service. The results clearly show that spatial inequality exists in the supply levels of the emergency medical service among local areas of Seoul.
An application of GIS technique to analyze the sales area and the location of gas stations in Tae-jeon city
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 12, issue 2, 2004, Pages 211~228
The purpose of this study is to analyze the sales area of gas stations to see the quality and the efficiencies of spatial distribution structure for petroleum products in Tae-jeon City. Location pattern of gas station is classified by factors of competitive facilities, transportation, population and landuse in Tae-jeon City. As a result, High profit pattern and low profit pattern is classified. The characteristics of the distribution pattern of gas station are that the while densely populated has a small sales area, the thinly populated region has huge ones. Location-allocation model is used in order to minimize the travel distance from consumer location to gas station and balance the spatial distribution of gas station in case studies. The result reveals that the model-based locations of gas stations are more dispersed and balanced in the whole Tae-jeon City compared with the actual location of gas stations. This study shows the characteristics and spatial distribution patterns of sales area and location in petroleum products distribution facilities.
