Study on the Fluctuation System of River Level Using GIS Data

Debris flow in the mountainous river gives rise to serious environmental and flooding problems. According to flood white book of Kangwon-do in 2002, over 30% of total of flooding victims are attributable to debris flow. But it has been neglected to build countermeasure to minimize victims due to lack of collected data and knowledge in field of the sediment yield of mountainous river. The study calculated hydraulic and hydrological fluctuation for rainfall condition using GIS data, after all we estimated the water surface of flood caused by bed fluctuation. These efforts will of for effective information for planning of river management.
Data Update on Multi-Scale Databases

This paper discusses on the update problem of multi-scale databases when the multi-scale databases, which is several spatial databases covering the same geographic area with different scales, are derived from an original one. Although the integrity between original and derived multi-scale databases should be maintained, most of update mechanisms do not 6respect it since the update mechanisms have assumed that the update of source objects propagates to objects directly derived from the source. In order to maintain the integrity of multi-scale databases during updates, we must propagate updates of sources to objects derived from both the updated source objects and other related objects. It is an important functional requirement of multi-scale database systems, which has not been supported by existing spatial database systems. In this paper, we propose a set of rules and algorithms for the update propagation and show a prototype developed on ArcGIS of ESRI. Our update mechanism provides with not only the consistency between multi-scale databases but also incremental updates.
The Application of Private Investment for the Promoting of Geographical Information Services

Geographical Information Service of local authorities is already considerable interest to private and public organizations. This paper presents the application of private investment aimed to promoting the extent of geographical information services in local authority. For it, the theoretical backgrounds of geographical information services are represented. On the basis of the empirical evidence, the paper represent a policy how a various issues should be dealt with promotion of geographical information services in the private investment.
Study on a GIS Database of Red Tide Information System

The purpose of this study is to develop of red tide information system for spatial and temporal analysis of red tide including the outbreak season of red tide and biological-oceanography parameters using GIS techniques. The outbreaks of red tide were sporadic in the South Sea until 1994, but became frequent and widespread in whole coastal waters of the South Sea and East Sea since 1995. Therefore, the research fields of red tide has undergone a major changes. For monitoring of red tide, many kinds of techniques were carried out such as remote sensing, GIS and fuzzy model system. In this research, the development methods of red tide information system were suggested. For construction of the CIS based Red Tide database, spatial distribution area, species of red tide plankton and physical environment were analyzed.
Application of Geographic Information System for Synthetic Analysis of Multidisciplinary Data in Seawater Intrusion Assessment

In order to effectively, and accurately assess seawater intrusion in coastal area, multidisciplinary data including geophysical, well logging, and hydrogeochemical data should be managed in systematical way. Such systematical management of data is critical key to improve the re-usability of the data as well as the accuracy of the assessment by means of providing a method of synthetic analysis. Therefore, for systematical management of multidisciplinary data in seawater intrusion problem, we have developed a database management system and 3-D visualization interface based on geographic information system in this, study. All geophysical survey, well logging, hydrochemical, as well as drilling, data are classified as attribute data using Microsoft Access, and joined with spatial information based on ArcView. The database management system and 3-D visualization interface to handle these data, also, developed using the script language of ArcView. We think the development of database and 3-D visualization system will improve the efficiency of data management, user-friendliness of data access, and accuracy of data analysis.
Transportation Digital Map Quality Guarantee Scheme for Analytic Network Building

Transportation digital map has built based on NGIS (national geography institute's 1 :5000 digital database) which derived from the aerial photo materials. Transportation digital map is a part of National Transportation Database Building Project carried out by the Korea Transport Institute and Ministry of Construction and Transportation. Transportation digital map for the purpose of transportation plan and investment has been updated and corrected the NGIS database especially for road network. Transportation digital map database is essential basic data fully applied for transportation policy and planning. The database must be reliable and objective to be applied for national transportation policy decision and transportation analysis. In addition, it needs accuracy and currentness to reflect the road network for the survey year. To satisfy the purpose of the database, following steps are necessary first, data Production and building has to be done by guideline of survey and database building. Secondly, geometric and logical errors which can occur during the survey and database building should be carefully detected. Thirdly, sectional guideline for database examination and procedure needs to be set up systematically and coherently This study is about examination guidelines for section and procedure on nodes and links which are essential object in transportation digital map database. According to the type of error, consistent and systematic error examination can lead to quality guarantee for objective and reliable database.
