An Improved Method in Grid-based Land Suitability Assessment
Kim Hag-Yeol ; Ahn Jae-Sung ;
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 13, issue 1, 2005, Pages 1~17
This paper draws new guidelines on the current method in Land Suitability Assessment (LSA), enforced to identify potential of parcels .elated to agricultural productivity, preservable value, and economic viability. In order to make recommendations of current LSA methodology, this study analyzes the issues related to the parcel-based LSA and addresses its inappropriateness f3r incorporating characteristics of each parcel. Through case studies and sensitivity analyses using GIS, the results show that (1) the
grid-based LSA is much better assessment method than parcel-based one, because it gives detailed informations on attributes of each parcel; (2) more than one-distance factor should be taken into account to calculate the appropriate potential measure; and (3) the characteristics of public facilities or urbanized areas including size, density, and land use should be incorporated into the attraction variable of ny Potential model. Finally future research areas are outlined.
Accuracy Estimation of RTK GPS mapping in the Different Seasons
Lee In-Su ;
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 13, issue 1, 2005, Pages 19~29
In this study, Real Time Kinematic GPS(RTK GPS) was conducted twice at the same site in two different seasons, respectively to check the possibility of it as the mapping tool, and how the factor affecting the accuracy of it. As a result, most parts of a small garden except f3r the worst environments surrounded with lots of tree canopy and several buildings were mapped using RTK GPS even in spring, full of a green foliage and winter as well. However, the mapping accuracy and the availability of RTK GPS were not so high. The study showed that it is recommended in RTK GPS mapping to utilize Total Station, etc. in the worst urban environments unable to track the satellite signals with ease.
The Analysis Accuracy of Mapping using Direct Georeferencing
Song Youn-Kyung ; Lee Jae-One ;
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 13, issue 1, 2005, Pages 31~41
In order to carry out aerial photogrammetry using GPS/INS, it is necessary to apply exterior orientation parameters, obtained while making a photo, to the editing process. It should be noted that the verification process of aerial mapping result is the most crucial process at the GPS/INS based digital photogrammetry. To this end, this study has compared the mapping result by the ways of AT results, plotter, and orientation, which is from basis of the Analytical raw map produced by the existing AT results. When comparing the horizontal and vertical accuracy of the analytical mapping with that of digital restitution, it could be found that the latter is more accurate than that of the former. In addition, it was reveled that the horizontal error was bigger than that of vertical one. Even though the accuracy of the GPS/INS based AT Direct orientation was three times poorer than the of indirect one, it was recognized that the photogrammetry process was effectively performed in the application of scale 1:5000 mapping with satisfying the allowance errors.

Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 13, issue 1, 2005, Pages 43~53
This paper presents tile modeling of non-point source pollutants runoff and its desirable water environmental management to closed waterbody. To obtain spatially distributed environmental information, fro have used contour data to extract stream channels automatically and to divide networks of watershed. A Quasi Digital Elevation Model (DEM) has been developed, validated, and adopted to estimate the runoff of total nitrogen pollutant from watershed. The GIS-linked model can be applied effectively to the non-point source pollutants from watersheds considering water conditions in receiving waters. It will be useful to manage water environment in receiving waters.
Generation of Digital Orthoimage using Direct Georeferencing
Song Youn-Kyung ;
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 13, issue 1, 2005, Pages 55~63
Direct Georeferencing(DG) Is based on the direct measurement of the projection centers and rotation angle of sensor through loading the GPS and INS in aircraft. The methods can offer us to acquire the exterior orientation parameters with only minimum GCPs, even the ground control process could be completely skipped. Hence, as long as securing Digital Elevation Model (DEM), it is feasible to generate digital orthophotos without performing the aerial triangulation with Ground Control Point (GCP) surveying. In this study, the DEM is automatically generated by using a image matching technique based on aerial photos and exterior orientation parameters. This is followed by producing an orthophoto from these results. Finally, accuracy analysis of the georeferencing technique for generating orthoimage indicates that RMS errors of 62cm and 76cm occurred at the X and the Y axis, respectively. This means that the results fulfill the demanding accuracy of the 1:5000 digital map. Hence, it is possible to conclude from this study that the direct georeferencing based orthoimage generation method is able to effectively digital map update.

Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 13, issue 1, 2005, Pages 65~78
The coast is important area to set up policies in aspects of environmental, international and developing of resources. The researches have been conducted by many different organizations according to their own purposes. So the fundamental researches of Korean coastal area haven't been completed. For that reason, we can't use the datum to apply f3r different cases. In this paper, we studied about our current situations and the need of surveying. For a effective research methods, we suggest dividing research areas into zones and dividing them into smaller zones. And we divide priority of research and ranging of surveying classes by grading them depending on the importance.
Estimating Soil Loss in Alpine Farmland with RUSLE and SEDD
Cho Hong-Lae ; Jeoung Jong-Chul ;
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 13, issue 1, 2005, Pages 79~90
The purpose of this study is to estimate quantitatively soil loss and sediment yield in alpine farmland. For this purpose, Naerinchon watershed in Gangwon province was selected as our study area and total annual soil loss and sediment yield was estimated respectively by the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) model and the Sediment Delivery Distributed (SEDD) model. The results of this study clearly show that dry field areas have significant impact on the total soil erosion and sediment yield compared with other land use. Dry field areas represent only
of the total area of the watershed but soil loss and sediment yield account for
of the total amount respectively Especially as with alpine farmland, this result is more clearly shown. These areas account for
of the entire watershed but contribute to
of the total soil loss and sediment yield respectively. From the above results, we can know that alpine farmland is important source of soil loss and sediment yield and it is need to prevent and control. soil erosion from alpine filmland urgently.

Jang Mun-Hyun ;
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 13, issue 1, 2005, Pages 103~117
Information can be visualized as information technology and computers have recently made dramatic improvements. Thanks to the brisk effects of providing information in 3D on the web with the technological developments of Web 3D and virtual reality implementation in the Internet, there has been the trend to present geographic information in images and 3D. In this study, the Web 3D GIS technique was adopted in analyzing the current state of urban landscape and examining and predicting the urban landscape affected by new urban development businesses. As a result, it was expected that the study would be able to help the government agencies to reduce their errors in making urban landscape plans and policies and implementing them to provide objective and visual data, and to come up with a simulation system that could be used to reflect the residents opinions in plans and policies.
