A Study of Augmented Reality based Visualization using Shape Information of Building Information Modeling

In the current construction planning and designing process, an architectural miniature model was designed to verify the interior or exterior spatial sense of a building structure, but building of the miniature model is demand much more effort and time; in addition to this it has limitation to identify interior information of the building. For a complement of it, CAD would be used in the existing planning and designing process to visualize the building information, but its visualization is not satisfactory for the 3D volume which could be easily verified with the miniature model. CAD is the specific software for designing building structures and the 3D results are usually rendered on 2D monitor screen. Therefore, there is a shortage of cognitive immersion for the 3D space. In this paper, we introduce the conversion process of BIM shape data into the Augmented Reality contents by using a series of softwares. As a result of modification on construction plan or design we reduced the cost and time to reconstruct the final visualization. We have shown that the interior or exterior information of the building structures are easily visualized with BIM shape data on augmented reality environment. Several proposed interaction methods, such as rem oval of building components, and slice-cut operation, provide the user for the effective manipulation of models on the augmented reality environment.
Vulnerability Assessment for Public Health to Climate change Using Spatio-temporal Information Based on GIS

To prevent the damage to human health by climate change, vulnerability assessment should be conducted for establishment of adaptation strategies. In this study, vulnerability assessment was conducted to provide information about vulnerable area for making adaptation policy. vulnerability assessment for human health was divided into three categories; extreme heat, ozone, and epidemic disease. To assess vulnerability, suitable indicators were selected by three criteria; sensitivity, adaptive capacity, and exposure, spatial data of indicators were prepared and processed using GIS technique. As a result, high vulnerability to extreme heat was shown in the low land regions of southern part. And vulnerability to harmful ozone was high in the surrounding area of Dae-gu basin and metropolitan area with a number of automobiles. Vulnerability of malaria and tsutsugamushi disease have a region-specific property. They were high in the vicinity of the Dimilitarized zone and south-western plain, respectively. In general, vulnerability of human health was increased in the future time. Vulnerable area was extended from south to central regions and from plain to low mountainous regions. For assessing vulnerability with high accuracy, it is necessary to prepare more related indicators and consider weight of indicators and use climate prediction data based on the newly released scenario when assessing vulnerability.
Assessment of the Locations for Carbon Monoxide Monitoring Stations in Daegu according to Emission Distribution

Air quality in Daegu area is lower compared to many other cities, since Daegu is a basin surrounded by mountains. Accordingly, the present study investigated the location of carbon monoxide(CO) monitoring stations for systematic CO pollution management on the basis of the CO emission distribution in Daegu area. In order to achieve this purpose, the location of CO monitoring stations, which can be used for the establishment of CO management, were assessed. Emission map in Daegu area was prepared using numerical map and Clean Air Policy Support System(CAPSS) data supplied by the M inistry of Environment. Average emissions were estimated by dividing emission sources into four subgroups(roadway, apartment, industry, and municipal incineration facility) according to legal division. The CO emission intensities were subdivided into 10, which a high number represents a high emission intensity, and the current monitoring stations were evaluated for the determination of their steps in CO emission intensities. As a result, additional installation of monitoring stations were suggested for the high CO emission areas rather than the low CO emission areas. A systematic CO management strategy would be established by the supplying various principle CO data when the CO monitoring stations are additionally installed at Kukwudong and other six sites on the basis of analyses of data obtained from 1999 to 2007.

A Preliminary Study on The Delimitation Standard of Maritime Boundary in Korea

Recently, local governments in Korea are promoting the rapid development of marine for delineating jurisdictional sea area. The importance of a maritime boundary has being emphasized, as jurisdictional sea area disputes among local governments have been increasing. The absence of the delineating standard of maritime boundary has become a source of contention between neighborhood local governments. So the delineating standard of maritime boundary in Korea will be required. The purpose of this study is to derive an improvement plan for the scientific delimitation standard of maritime boundary by analyzing "A hydrographic survey guideline for confirmation of maritime boundary". The results of this study are as follows. Firstly, we defined the concept of the delimitation standard of maritime boundary. Secondly, we set the boundary, factors and processes of the delineating standard of maritime boundary through classifying them in detail. Lastly, we suggested the makeup of a conflict adjustment committee for preventing jurisdictional sea area disputes among local governments.
A Study on History-Tourism Information Service Using Mobile Augmented Reality Technology

Advances in science and technology, especially the increasing popularity of smart phone has opened up infinite possibilities for the information retrieval. And the augmented reality technology which has started getting attention to various fields has allowed us to get an information in an innovative way by providing additional information to a real world before our eyes. The purpose of this study is to suggest and to construct mobile application service which give history-tourism information efficiently based on augmented reality technology. As a result of study, we suggest that it is needed to find the view point that the most accurate information can be provided to the users according to each contents such as maps, pictures, drawings etc. and to provide the function to the users which shows the view points information efficiently. The purpose of this study is to investigate the possibility whether the technology studied in private sector by using augmented reality based on smart phone can also be applied in public sector for the service of history tourism information. We expect that this study can be the basis for providing the more advanced augmented reality service in the near future.
The Efficient Public Private Partnerships for the Geospatial Data

This paper is based on the research in the field of geospatial data that Seoul Government has initially promoted with private companies. In order to introduce the knowhow which has obtained through the cooperation between Seoul government and Private companies, several useful and practical materials will be offered in this paper. As for the cooperation on geospatial data, government and private companies should form a consultative group to find the way of improvement and the legal and regulatory details should be summited to related institutions. This paper will offer a proposal about how to improve and invigorate the present system, also, it will help to look for an effective proposal about budget reductions on the geospatial data which Seoul government propelled with private companies through continuous cooperation. Useful guide about how to solve the difficulties due to the imcomplete of legislations and closed institutions provided by Seoul Government will also be mentioned in this paper.
A Study on Technology Commercialization for National R&D Products : A Case Study on Korean Land Spatialization Program

Recently, it is very important to create economic value as well as develop core algorithms and technologies in the field of R&D. Various R&D projects make an effort to do the technology commercialization of their results and, as part of efforts, many studies on business model(BM) are conducted to create economic benefits in using the developed technology. However, it is difficult to use the general business model methodologies, which are usually utilized for companies, to the government's research due to different processes and characteristics between them. And for the practical application of business models, it needs to systematize conceptual business models in technical perspective through technical architecture analysis. In this study, a business model development process and a technical architecture analysis for national R&D project is developed for the technology commercialization. In addition, the process is applied to Korean Land Spatialization Program (KLSP) organized by Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs to verify the feasibility of its practical application.
The Spatial Variation Measurement of Multi-Centric Structure in Busan Metropolitan City

Recently metropolitan cities pursue multi centric urban spatial structure for sustainable development and efficient urban management. Thus, this study calculated population potential using data on population distributed among road nodes for the last 50 years, and based on the results. We measured the spatial variability of the multi centric structure of Busan Metropolitan City. According to the results, the multi centralization process has been continued up to recently in Busan Metropolitan City. As population potential is concentrated on sub centers, Hadan, Gupo and Haeundae areas were playing an increasingly powerful role as the center of the respective district, and Sasang and Dongrae had been losing their role as the center of their respective districts since 2000 and 1990, respectively. Additionally, in all the multi centric districts except Haeundae was observed the increase of oblongity, which is the change of spatial structure in an unbalanced way toward a specific area or direction.
Application of Augmented Reality based Urban Planning Support System for Effective District Unit Planning

This paper is aimed at offering preliminary data that improve the effectiveness of district unit planning, which has adopted to make comfortable environment of national land, to prevent urban sprawl rural area and to perform systematic maintenance of the existing urban area, by case study analysis about the applied possibility of GIS-based augmented reality. To do this, we developed the augmented reality based urban planning support system and checked the parts that can be applied of augmented reality techniques in the process of district units planning. And we analysed about merits and demerits of augmented reality techniques through comparative analysis, which is about form, arrangement, use, and height of building, building coverage ratio, floor area ratio and landscape planning in the case study area, the Yeosu district(located in Seongnam).
The Research on Extraction of Topology Model Using Straight Medial Axis Transformation Algorithm

The purpose of this study is to develop the auto-building algorithm of the Geometric Network Model(GNM), a topology model including geometric information because of the need to reflect the features' geometric characteristic into the topology model, which is for development of indoor 3D virtual model enabling queries. As the critical algorithm, the Straight Medial Axis Transformation(SMAT) algorithm is proposed in order to automatically extract the medial axis of features. The SMAT algorithm is generalized from the existing S-MAT algorithm and a range of target features where applicable is extended from simple polygons to weakly simple polygons which mean the polygons containing the inner ring inside. The GNM built automatically is finally printed out as the .csv file for easy access and w ide application in other systems. This auto-building algorithm of the GNM is available for plenty of cases such as finding a shortest path, guiding a route in emergency situation, and semantic analysis.
A Technique for Extracting GeoSemantic Knowledge from Micro-blog

Recently international organizations such as ISO/TC211, OGC, INSPIRE (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe) make an effort to share geospatial data using semantic web technologies. In addition, smart phone and social networking services enable community-based opportunities for participants to share issues of a social phenomenon based on geographic area, and many researchers try to find a method of extracting issues from that. However, serviceable spatial ontologies are still insufficient at application level, and studies of spatial information extraction from SNS were focused on user's location finding or geocoding by text mining. Therefore, a study of extracting spatial phenomenon from social media information and converting it into geosemantic knowledge is very usable. In this paper, we propose a framework for extracting keywords from micro-blog, one of the social media services, finding their relationships using data mining technique, and converting it into spatiotemopral knowledge. The result of this study could be used for implementing a related system as a procedure and ontology model for constructing geoseem antic issue. And from this, it is expected to improve the effectiveness of finding, publishing and analysing spatial issues.
Update Frequency Reducing Method of Spatio-Temporal Big Data based on MapReduce

Until now, many indexing methods that can reduce update cost have been proposed for managing massive moving objects. Because indexing methods for moving objects have to be updated periodically for managing moving objects that change their location data frequently. However these kinds indexing methods occur big load that exceed system capacity when the number of moving objects increase dramatically. In this paper, we propose the update frequency reducing method to combine MapReduce and existing indices. We use the update request grouping method for each moving object by using MapReduce. We decide to update by comparing the latest data and the oldest data in grouping data. We reduce update frequency by updating the latest data only. When update is delayed, for the data should not be lost and updated periodically, we store the data in a certain period of time in the hash table that keep previous update data. By the performance evaluation, we can prove that the proposed method reduces the update frequency by comparison with methods that are not applied the proposed method.
A Prototype for Real-time Indoor Evacuation Simulation System using Indoor IR Sensor Information

Indoor fire simulators have been used to analyse building safety in the events of emergency evacuation. These applications are primarily focused on simulating evacuation behaviors for the purpose of checking building structural problems in normal time rather than in real time situations. Therefore, they have limitations in handling real-time evacuation events with the following reasons. First, the existing models mostly experiment the artificial situations using randomly generated evacuees while real world requires actual data. Second, they take too long time in operation to generate real time data. Third, they do not produce optimal results to be used in rescueing or evacuation guidance. In order to solve these limitations, we suggest a method to build an evacuation simulation system that can be used in real-world emergency situations. The system performs numerous simulations in advance according to varying distributions of occupants. Then the resulting data are stored in DBMS. The actual person data captured in infrared sensor network are compared with the simulation data in DBMS and the querried data most closely is provided to the user. The developed system is tested using a campus building and the suggested processes are illustrated.
Algorithm for Finding K-Nearest Object Pairs in Circular Search Spaces

The query of the K closest object pairs between two object sets frequently occurs at recently retrieval systems. The circular location property of objects should be considered for efficiently process queries finding such a K nearest object pair. In this paper, we propose the optimal algorithm finding the K object pairs which are closest to each other in a search space with a circular domain and show its performance by experiments. The proposed algorithm optimizes the cost of finding the K nearest object pairs by using the circular search distances which is much applied the circular location property.
