Graphical processing unit (GPU) contains many arithmetic logic units (ALUs). Because many ALUs can be exploited to process parallel processing, GPU provides efficient data processing. The spatial data require many geographic coordinates to represent the shape of them in a map. The coordinates are usually stored as geodetic longitude and latitude. To display a map in 2-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system, the geodetic longitude and latitude should be converted to the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinate system. The conversion to the other coordinate system and the rendering process to represent the converted coordinates to screen use complex floating-point computations. In this paper, we propose a parallel processing technique that processes the conversion and the rendering using the GPU to improve the performance. Large spatial data is stored in the disk on files. To process the large amount of spatial data efficiently, we propose a technique that merges the spatial data files to a large file and access the file with the method of memory mapped file. We implement the proposed technique and perform the experiment with the 747,302,971 points of the TIGER/Line spatial data. The result of the experiment is that the conversion time for the coordinate systems with the GPU is 30.16 times faster than the CPU only method and the rendering time is 80.40 times faster than the CPU.

Abstract Monitoring is the most critical element in implementing "forest carbon offset project" to enhance the visibility of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) in North Korea. This study is intended to explore monitoring potential in terms of forest carbon offset project using satellite image for Baekdu mountain of North Korea. The permanent record of standard satellite remote sensing system demonstrated its capability of presenting area-wide visual evidences of monitoring conditions in Mt. Baekdu mountain of North Korea (site suitability, carbon stock by forest biomass growth, carbon emission by forest biomass loss, deforestation and degradation, environmental, social and economic impact specified in the Carbon Sequestration Law). It doesn't seem very difficult to comply with monitoring requirements for "the forest carbon offset project" due to the probative value of satellite data. Therefore, it could be considerable or realistic approach to utilize CSR based forest carbon offset project as a point of reform and open-door in North Korea. It is anticipated that this research output could be used as a valuable reference for Korea-based enterprises to ensure monitoring potentials using satellite image in exploring forest carbon offset project sites in North Korea.

Recently, according to the increasingly populated data, many media and organizations focus on big data, data visualization, information visualization and infographics. Domestically, Chosun.com and Hankyoreh online have improved on the data visualization field and internationally, the Guardian, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times are the leading companies on that area. Until now, many people have recognized infographics as a design-oriented product in Korea. However, one of significant data visualization programs, Tableau Public, can visualize data more efficiently. In this paper, Data Visualization Methods Quadrant for Policy Making is defined, and data analysis and producing infographics are executed. As used data, World Bank open source was adopted and using the number of passenger cars per 1,000 people, two analysis results are extracted. First, in high income group, the more GNI per capita, the lesser Slope is represented and in mid income group, the more GNI per capita positively affects to Slope. Second, in the global finance crisis, the car ownership rate was about 1.7 times than the usual state in the global economy. Through the case study, this paper suggests that the direction of producing infographics should be changed from design-oriented to data-oriented. Moreover, the data-oriented infographics should be propagated as means of scientific research and policy making.

Remote sensing data is used to increasing efficiency on benthic cover type survey. Satellite and aerial imagery has variance of reflectance by water column effect even if bottom is consisted with same cover type and condition. This study tried to analyze advances of surveying extent and accuracy through water column correction of CASI-1500 hyperspectral image. Study area is coast of Gangneung city, South Korea where benthic environment is rapidly changing with bleaching of coral reef. Water column correction coefficient was estimated using regression models between water reflectance (
) and depth for sand bottom then the coefficients were applied to whole image. The results shows that expanded interpretable depth from 6-7m to 15m and decreased variation of reflectance by depth. Additionally, water column corrected reflectance image shows 13%p increased accuracy on benthic cover type classification.

In this study, we evaluated flood risk by applying calculation fomula considering practical risk calculated by inundation analysis information through 2D inundation analysis, suggested a plan that provides a standardized information system. Generally, we evaluated flood risk to people and classified four degrees by using inundation depth, velocity, Debris Factor and Flood Hazard Rating relationship because current flood risk assessment method based inundation depth and area was considered to not fully reflect the actual risk to people on flood. We simulated overflow and levee break scenarios according to 500 year and 200 year floods, respectively, by using Flumen which is a 2D flood inundation model for Geumho river basin in Daegu. The result of this study could contribute to inform practical risk information to people in expected flood area. This study can be useful for the fields of disaster estimatingsuch as information analysis, evaluation, planning by offering Risk information based on standardized information system.

According to the NGIS (National Geographic Information System) project conducted since 1995, the central and local government has been accumulating huge amount of geospatial data. Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport started its GeoSpatial open platform (V-World) service in January 2012, also offering a wide range of functions and services. However, the National GeoSpatial open platform is still woefully deficient for the users to find their desired data, lack of data for private business area, insufficient in publicity of local government and public-private partnerships. Through analyzing current research trend after GeoSpatial open platform served for three years, study on overseas expansion, system links, service improvement, utilization and future strategy has been mainly conducted. This study, by analyzing the advanced overseas GeoSpatial platform as well as domestic research trend and combining the concept of new technology, business platform and SMG (Seoul Metropolitan Government)'s GeoSpatial platform, proposes a policy for the construction of future GeoSpatial Open Platform model.

If one can infer the residential area of SNS users by analyzing the SNS big data, it can be an alternative by replacing the spatial big data researches which result from the location sparsity and ecological error. In this study, we developed the way of utilizing the daily life activity pattern, which can be found from timeline data of tweet users, to infer the residential areas of tweet users. We recognized the daily life activity pattern of tweet users from user's movement pattern and the regional cognition words that users text in tweet. The models based on user's movement and text are named as the daily movement pattern model and the daily activity field model, respectively. And then we selected the variables which are going to be utilized in each model. We defined the dependent variables as 0, if the residential areas that users tweet mainly are their home location(HL) and as 1, vice versa. According to our results, performed by the discriminant analysis, the hit ratio of the two models was 67.5%, 57.5% respectively. We tested both models by using the timeline data of the stress-related tweets. As a result, we inferred the residential areas of 5,301 users out of 48,235 users and could obtain 9,606 stress-related tweets with residential area. The results shows about 44 times increase by comparing to the geo-tagged tweets counts. We think that the methodology we have used in this study can be used not only to secure more location data in the study of SNS big data, but also to link the SNS big data with regional statistics in order to analyze the regional phenomenon.
