The Study on a Semi-automated Mapping System

In this paper, a semi-automated mapping system, which can produ¬ce digital maps by using information acquired from pre-processing procedure, was introduced. To get a binary edge image, which is very important in vectori¬zation process, we applied adaptive smoothing and connection preserving thresho¬Iding algorithm. In mapper program, binary images are converted to vectors and for in-core data structure, extended PR quad tree was used. These procedures are dispatched to personal computers and workstations and through network resource sharing, the whole process was unified and simplified.

The purpose of this study was to give some ideas for the reasonable ecological management of Taejon city and its adjacent forests related to urban plans. For those, the environmental buffer capacity and the sensitivity of forest ecosystem to the effect of acid precipitation were analyzed using mRlSI system of GIS. Rural water resources systems may be largely constituted by two parts. One is rural water supply systems such as reservoirs, wells, pumping stations. The other is rural water demand systems which include municipal water, irrigation water, industrial water, livestocks water, inland fisheries water and envir¬onmental water in rural areas. planning to develop rural water resources systems is a very hard task because of their complicated factors and the large number of spatial data to investigate and manipulate. A Geographic Information SystemCGIS) will be a powerful and efficient tool to handle the spatial data and to plan the land use. All data can be efficiently maintained and easily updated. This paper refers to the construction of a GIS for planning rural water resources systems applied to Kokseong County, Cheonnam Province, Republic of Korea. The Geographic Informa¬tion was constituted by 4 layers of base map and 11 layers of thematic map.

The Method of Creating the Road Network Database for an Integrated Road Management System

The database design, which logically sets the base structure and orga¬nization of the database, is performed by considering the users requirement, the relations between various data, and the relations between data and application field.The road network data must be created to have geometrical topological structure, because various data elements are needed to recognize the state of each section and to relate between data element. In this study, we propose a method of creating the road network database for an integrated road management system.
An Empirical Study of Housevalue Using GIS

GIS has been developed very rapidly during last few decades and the performance of GIS in terms of information processing such as automated mapping and facility management has been tremendous. However, its analytical capability is still very limited and it is often critisized due to lack of reality. The objective of this research is that first, linking housevalue models to GIS, second, reflecting the complexity of real world into the housevalue model using GIS in terms of incorpor¬rating polycentric urban structure and calculating distance through street network, and third, comparing the results of housevalue model at census tract to that of block group level.
Landslide data base system using GIS technology

Landslide data base system is necessitated to make a mid-long term master plan to prevent landslide from past landslide data and their statistical analysis. This paper emphasis on application of the efficient management system of GIS to reduce landslide disasters basis on the result of survey analysis of landslide problems.
