Analysis of Groundwater Pollution Potential and Risk using DRASTIC System
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 4, issue 1, 1996, Pages 1~11
DRASTIC system developed by U.S.EPA, is widely used for assessing groundwater pollution potential The system can be applied to site selection of well or waste disposal, Ianduse planning for groundwater protection, and monitoring. In this study, GIS(Geographic Information System) was established hydrogeological database of DRASTIC system and cartographic modeling to asre:; regional groundwater pollution potential around Chungju Lake. Hydrogeological factors of the system were depth to water, net recharge, aquifer media, soil media, slope and hydraulic conductivity. Risk of groundwater pollution to non -point source pollution, was also analyzed by incorporation of actual pollution sources(N, P) and DRASTIC system. The GIS data could be very quickly analysed hydrogeological characteristics of the study area by graphic user interface programs devel¬oped with AML(ARC Macro Language) of ARC/INFO.
Land-cover Change detection on Korean Peninsula using NOAA AVHRR data
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 4, issue 1, 1996, Pages 13~20
This study has been on detection of land-cover change on Korean peninsula (including the area of north Korean territory) between May of 1990 year and that of 1995 year using NOAA AVHRR data. It was necessary that imagery data should be registered to each other and should not be deviated much in seasonal variation in order to recognize land - cover change. Atmosphic effect such as clould and dirt was erased by maximum NDVI(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) method the equation of which was as following
Each image of maximum NDVI of '90 year and '95 year was c1assifed onto 8 categories ,using iso-clustering method each of which was water, wet barren and urban, crop field, field, mixed vegetation, shrub, forest and evergreen.
The Characteristics of Natural Hazard due to the Impact of Urbanization in Seoul Metropolitan Area : A potential flood hazard study of Anyang-Cheon Watershed
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 4, issue 1, 1996, Pages 21~42
The Anyang-cheon is one of the Han River tributaries in Seoul Metropolitan area. It is 35.1km long, has a basin area of 287km2 and touches seven cities of Kyounggi Province and part of Seoul. The purpose of this study were 1) to reconstruct the ancient stream network and to investigate the change of landuse in Anyang-cheon watershed between 1957 and 1991,2) to measure the change of the hydrologic ¬acteristics with urbanization, 3) to suggest the institutional solutions to reduce natural hazard as the area has urbanizedThe main results are as follows: 1.Anyang-cheon river basin has experienced the rapid urbanization and industrialization since 1957. Anyang-cheon stream network was oversimplified in the watershed. The total stream length decreased atributaries in the upper part of river basin have eliminated or buried undergrolmd in pipes. 2.Urbanization impacted to all of the area of Anyang-cht'On watershed. Urbanization in Anyang-cheon watershed corresponds to the large portion of flat area, especially flood - prone zone of river side, and the small portion of Greenbelt to constrain urban expantion in cities. 3.The urbanization of Anyang-cheon watershed produces fundamental changes in watershed hydrology. As infiltration is reduced by the creation of extensive pavement, concrete surface, and sewer pipe, runoff moves more quickly from upland to stream. As a result, runoff from the watershed is flashier, increasing flood hazardAs urban area continue to grow we will need to better utilize stream by protecting and enhancing stream systems.otecting and enhancing stream systems.tems.
Emergency Medical System based on GIS
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 4, issue 1, 1996, Pages 43~54
The purpose of this study is to provide GIS application to the emergency medical service management system in the Seoul area. Two wards, Kangnam-Gu and Songpa-Gu, were selected for a pilot study subject. The main focus of the study was to develope the network system using GIS which could select the most available hospital from the site being emergency case and advise the minimum path to the hospital. ARC/INFO pc version was need to implemeni an indexing system for automated mapping and data storage. The developed system, "Emergency Medical System based on GIS
", consists of the cartographic database and vehicle transportation system. The results suggest that EMS/GIS network are needed to connect the local transportation network between major emergency care hospitals and central conirol tower in the near future. If the EMS/GIS system could be more developed based in further analysis, it would be the most useful economical and efficient for emergency medical service with mutual aid system.al aid system.
An Analysis on the Characteristics of Commercial Distribution in Seoul Using GIS
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 4, issue 1, 1996, Pages 55~74
The purpose of this paper is to search the factors which influence the distribution of commercial function. Commercial function plays the most important role in determining urban spacial structure. The location of commercial function is influenced by topography, accessibility, population, and urban policy. Due to the lack of formal data these factors have not been studed to the full. But GIS makes it possible to conduct researches in analyzing these factors. The results are : (1) The index of employment density connects with topography, population, accessibility and urban policy. (2) The location of commercial function is influenced by these factors (3) GIS is a useful tool in analyzing urban spacial structure.
Design and Implementation of Realty Trade Information Management System based on WWW
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 4, issue 1, 1996, Pages 75~81
Realty Trade Information Hanagement System(RTIMS) is intended to provide the services relat¬ed to realty business activity such as registration, search, negotiation, and information analysis. Introduction of the geographic information processing concept into the system has a great effect on the overall service processes of the realty business. This system is designed and implemented for remote users to easily get the informations about the target realty and to achieve a proper negotiation, by offering the various kinds of geographic informations including map, moving picture, photo, and so on. Futher, users can access RTIMS through WWW(World Wide Web) without additional client emulator.
A GIS Technique to Evaluate Landslide Activity
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 4, issue 1, 1996, Pages 83~92
The inventory maps of landslide deposits show where landsliding has occured in the past., and serve as a general guide to slope stability. Isopleth maps derived from those inventory maps, provide an economi¬cal means for the recognition of landslide activity and assessing the degree of landslide hazard in a large area, es¬pecially rural areas. GIS could generalize the methods of hazard assessment by means of isopleth mapping of landslide deposits. Isopleth maps of Secheon and Boreong areas, where the degree of landslide hazard is very high, show the mitigation of landslide activities remarkably by the remedial efforts during the period of 1978-1991.
A Study on the Evalution after Urban Park Construction by Geographic Information System - Namsangol Park , Junggu , Seoul -
Journal of Korea Spatial Information Society, volume 4, issue 1, 1996, Pages 93~105
The purpose of this study was to give some ideas to the improving direction and evaluation in order to solve physical' ecological problems appeared after urban park construction. This study selected Namsangol park as a site, because this park was constructed to the goal in order to rehabilitate the original landform as a part of "Namsan original landscape rehabilitation work". So this study was executed to investigate past and present landform change, soil condition, planting, water/climate etc., and then these were analyzed by GIS.- soil :pH, Ec, organic matter, the ability of moisture content, bulk density, porosity, etc.- planting:planting density, plant species- water/climate: the amount of rainfall, drainage and drainage-basin. And then this study overlayed soil+cut/fill, soil+pine tree, cut/fill + planting density, and cut/fill + plant species.t species.
