Germination characteristic between Korean species and Japanese one were identified. Seed waslow temperture germinability. Optimum temperature of germination:on was 16
. Germinationrate was effected more when treated with GA3 of 1000ppm at shade and light place. Germinationrate was no significant difference between Korean species and japanese one. e.

The experiments tvere carried out to different temperature which affected growth, yield, proximate and antitumor activity in the Codonopsis lanceolata. Growth of aerial part and subterranean partwere best at 2

Wild C.fonceoforo had higher contents of fat, protein, fiber and ash as compared with cultur'ed C.lanceolataArginin was predominant amino acid in both wild and cultivated C.laceolata No significant differ-ence in the mineral contents was found between the wild root and the cultivated at 30'c inbiotronroom. No minerals difference in the contents was found between the cultivated temperature.The content of elements of inorganic metal differs according to the part. C. lanceolata were subjectedto preliminary antitumer screening test with Sarcoma 180 ascites and screening on V-79 cell. Thisexperiments were conducted in accordance with the total packed cell volume method and cytotoxicity method.
Chemical Constituents of Cynochum wilfordi , Codonopsis lanceolata and lxeris sonchifolia

The proximate and amino acid composition of wild and cultivated Cynochum wilfordi, Codopsis lancolata and lxeris sonchifolia were analyzed. Cynochum wilfordi, had higher contents of sugar ascompared with Codonopsis lancolata and lxeris sonchifolia. Fats was 2-3 times higher in Cynochumwilordi then Codonopsis lancolata and lxeris sonchifolia. No significant difference in the contents wasfound between the open field root, spontanity and cultivated at 30'c in biotronroom at condonopsislanceolata. However, contents of protein was 12.8% in lxeris sonchifolia. Total amino acid were 1.5-1.8 times higher in lxeris sonchifolia. than Cynochum wilfordi and Codonopsis lancolata. The decresingorder of the amounts of amino acid infused from the Cynochum wilfordi samples was Glu, Arg, Asp,Leu, Pro, Lys, Codonopsis lancolata (Changdeuk) was Arg, Glu, Pro, Leu, Asp, Lys, Codonopsislanceilata(Chirisan) was Arg, Glu, Pro, Asp, Lys, Leu, Codonopsis lancolata(Yeanbeun) was Arg,Glu, Asp, Leu, Ser, Lys, and lxeris sonchifolia was Glu, Arg, Asp, Cys, Lys, Pro.
Cytogenetic Studies of Codonopsis lanceolata Benth. Et. Hook. Geographical Variety of Somatic Chromosomes in Local Type

The somatic chromosome numbers were counted to be 2n = 16 of Codonopsis lanceolata. Chromosomes 2 and 7 of Sokrisan and Koheung II has a hetero satellite on short arm. Chromosome 5 of Bakwoonsan showed homo satllite on short arms. Short arms of chromosomes 1 and 5 has homo satellite and short arms of chromosomes 2 and 7 has hetero satellite of Jilin.
Notes on genus Entoloma of Korea ( IV )

Many species of genus Entoloma were collecte from areas aat Mt. Naejang National Park, Mt. Sunun Provincial Park Mt. Manduck and adjacent areas. these Entoloa were idenified. According to the results, Entoloma subfarinaceum, E.viriincum, E.subgriseum, E.dolosum, E.squamiferum, E.intutum, E.violaceobrunnrum an E.seicatum were new to be Korea. Detail descriptions and Korean descriptions for them were made.
Studies on Cytotoxic Constituents of Korean Forsythia Fruits

In the preliminary antitumor screening tests of Crude Drugs and collected plants, the methanol ic extract of Forsythia Fruits in Korean marcket showed signif icant cytotoxic activity against Chinese hamster V-79 cells, but that in Japanese market did not. The former was identifid as Forsythia viridissima Lindley and latter as F.suspensa Vahl on the basis of the morphological observation. When an aqueous solution of the extract prepared from the fruits of F. viridissima (Oleaceae) was partitioned successively with n-hexane, methylene chloride, n-butanol, the cytoyoxic activitywas concetrated in the methylene chloride extract. Fractionation of the extract was made with the guidance of bioassay against V-79 cells to give cytotoxic lignans, matariresiol (1) and arctigenin (2). Their ICso values of compounds 1 and 2 were respectively
. Also, their structures were confirmed by comparison of physical and spectral data in the literature.

The effects of various kind and amount of nitrogen fertilizers on the plant grorth. physiological , yield and extracts. ligustilide, butylidene phthalide contents of curdsdrug "Tou-ki" (AnTelica acutiloba Kitagawa) were investigated in 1989. Five plots variouskind of nitrogen fertilizers. Namely, no nitrogen, urea. ammonium nitrate, ammoniumchloride and control plot of ammonium sulfate. The other, by providing five plotsdifferent composed ratio of nitrogenous fertilizers. containing no nitrogen (No. o) .0.5-fold nitrogen (No s), control plot of 1.0-fold nitrogen(Nl.o). 1.5-fold nitrogen(Nl s)and 2.0-fold nitrogen Na. o), but nitogen was used the ammonium sulfate. The results showedthat the crude drug "Tou-ki" can ammonium chloride be produced in good yield, displayingboth good plant growth and remarkable physiologically-active conditions, and it can beproduced such that the extracts is maximized. Additionally, using methods of gaschromatography (GC) , it was established that ligustilide and butylidene phthalide, majorcomponents in the crude drug was recovered in a good yield from the fully grown plants.The other, the plant growth, the physiologically-active, the weight of whole plant, theyield of extracts and ligustilide, butylidene phthalide were seen to be best at the plotof 2.0-fold nitrogen and according to the increase or decrease of nitrogen decreasedgradually. Therefore. about 2 fold of standard quantity seems to be the most suitablequantity of nitrogen for "Tou-ki" cultivation .uot;Tou-ki" cultivation .ion .
