New Dead Time Compensation Method in Voltage-Fed PWM Inverter

This paper has proposed a new dead time compensation method for a voltage-fed PMW inverter. In the voltage-fed PMW inverter, a voltage distortion is generated by the dead time effect and the nonlinear characteristics of the switching devices. Especially, the distorted voltage causes 5th and 7th harmonics in the stationary phase currents, and 6th harmonic in the synchronous phase currents. As a result, the integrator output of the synchronous PI current regulator has the ripple corresponding to six times of the inverter output frequency. In this paper, the signal of the integrator output of the d-axis current regulator is used as the control signal for the dead time compensation. The experimental and simulation results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed method.
Anti-windup for Complex Vector Synchronous Frame PI Current Controller

This paper presents an anti-windup gain selection method for a complex vector synchronous frame PI current controller. The complex vector PI current controller is more robust to the parameter variation than the state feedback decoupling PI current controller. The complex vector PI current controller also includes an integral term, which can results in windup problem when the controller is saturated due to physical limitation of the system. Furthermore, even an anti-windup is utilized, inappropriate gain can deteriorate the performance of the current controller. Therefore, appropriate anti-windup gain selection method for a complex vector current controller has been proposed based on the mathematical description of the current control system. The superior performance of the current control system with the proposed anti-windup gain has been verified by the experimental results.
Operating Characteristics of LLC Series Resonant Converter Using A LLT Transformer

Operating Characteristics of LLC Series resonant converter with a LLT(Inductor-Inductor-Transformer) transformer is presented. LLT transformer used to combine the inductor and transformer into one unit has the increased leakage inductance in the primary and secondary due to the winging method and the use of the gaped core. The increased leakage inductance in the primary and secondary of LLT transformer can be impacted on the DC voltage gain characteristics of LLC series resonant converter. In the paper, DC gain characteristics and the experimental results of the LLC series resonant converter with a LLT transformer are verified on the simulation based on the theoretical analysis and the 400W experimental prototype.
Sensorless Vector Control of Spindle Induction Motors Using Rotor Flux Observer with a Variable Bandwidth

This paper presents a new speed sensorless vector control scheme of Spindle Induction Motors(SIM) which can be successfully applied to at any speed including even zero speed. The proposed sensorless vector control of SIM uses rotor flux estimator with a variable bandwidth. This approach is based on the Closed-Loop Rotor Flux Observer(CLRFO) which includes a variable bandwidth of the PI controller. For low speed operation, the bandwidth of CLRFO has a variable bandwidth structure according to the estimated rotor velocity. The experimental results show the satisfactory operation of the proposed sensorless algorithm.
A Novel Utilization Method of the Predicted Current in the High Performance PI Current Controller with a Control time delay

This paper deals with a novel utilization method of the predicted current in the high performance PI current controller with a control time delay. The inevitable error of the predicted current in the linear servo drive using a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor is analyzed and a modified cross-coupling decoupling synchronous frame PI current controller is proposed in order to improve the current control response under both the control time delay and the inevitable current prediction error. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed current controller has an improved current control performance under both the control time delay and the inevitable current prediction error in the servo drive system.
A New Commutation Circuit for PMW Cuk AC-AC Converter

This paper proposes a new commutation circuit for a PWM Cuk AC-AC converter. The proposed commutation circuit utilizes a modified Undeland snubber as a commutation aid. The snubber circuit has some good features such as reduction of voltage/current stress of the main switches and improved efficiency. The experiment results show the adaptability and feasibility of the proposed commutation circuit.
Position Sensorless Starting of BLDC Motor for Compressor

The magnitude of output torque in a BLDC Motor depends on torque angle so that the exact initial position of rotor is essentially required for good starting. This paper presents a novel starting control method for smooth starting in a position-sensorless controlled BLDC motor drive for reciprocating compressor of refrigerator. The proposed method starts a BLDC motor using information on the initial position of rotor, determined from current response characteristics, and shows robust starting capability to starting load variations. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through experimental results.
Design of High Performance 5 Phase Step Motor Drive System with Current Control Loop

This paper proposes that 5 phase step motor drive system has high performance utilizing a micro step control with a current controller. Also this paper proposes an analog current controller to minimize size of the 5 phase step motor drive system. It has better advantages of cost and noise and heating than commercial products. As a result, Applying this system to position control robot the validity of suggested analog current controller and driver system is verified.
A Study on the CCFL Parallel Driving Circuit for the large LCD TV

To enhance the competitive edge of the material cost, various techniques lowering the material cost of inverter to drive Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) have been developed. In this paper, the theoretical analysis has been done for the existing techniques such as Jin Balance and O2Micro technique. Especially, How to design the value of magnetizing inductance to meet the specification of the lamp current tolerance between lamps has been disclosed. Based on this result, two kinds of hybrid type balancing techniques have been proposed and analyzed mathematically, Also, the accuracy of the proposed techniques has been verified through Pspice simulation.
3-Phase Power Quality Disturbance Generator with Phase Jump Function

This paper deals with a new 3-phase power quality disturbance generator. The proposed generator can provide phase jump as well as voltage sag, swell, outage, unbalance, and over and under voltage. The operating principle of the generator is described in each mode of disturbance. The magnitude of the phase jump is analysed and it is found that the magnitude is the function of the turn-ratios of the transformers consisting the generator. The scheme has simple structure compared with the conventional one, and the major components of the proposed scheme are SCR thyristor and transformer, which guarantees high reliability and cost-effective implementation of the generator. Furthermore, high efficiency can be obtained because there is no PWM switching of the semiconductor devices, and it is easy to control the system. Simulations are carried out to confirm the operation in each disturbance mode, and experiments has been done with 5kVA power rating. The usefulness of the proposed scheme is verified through simulation and experimental results. It is expected that the scheme can be applied to the performance test of the custom power devices such as UPS, DVR, DSTATCOM, and SSTS with cost-effective system.
A Study on Control of High Power PM Excited TFLM for Long Distance

Automatic transfer equipments of manufacturing and process line trend toward big size as LCD glass is big size, heavy weight. The conventional stocker uses rotational motor and mechanical power converter device as travel axis of stocker crane and then frequent maintenances by complex structure and mechanical friction are required. Also it has problem to minimize the particle generation. To solve these problems, this paper verified the performance of permanent magnet(PM) excited transverse flux linear motor(TFLM) that is big power density per unit volume applied for travel axis of 7 generation stocker that is being big size, high power, long distance by the experiment based on proposed control algorithm, controller and power converter device.
Design and Development of Distorted Source Device for Circuit Breakers Failure Analysis

Up to recently the harmonic generation has deteriorated the quality of electricity and affected the performance on the electrical installation including OA, FA, IT devices and so on. Some studies of harmonic affects in diagnosis and the cause of accident has not done by the experimental data of harmonic source but merely by presumption according to qualitative analysis. So, in order to research the harmonic affect on the electrical installation according to quantitative analysis and gather reliable data over and over again, it is necessary to develop an AC power source which is capable of generating some harmonics. In this paper, we described about realization of AC power source which can produce and compose harmonics for the analysis of accident due to harmonics.
