Transformerless Three-Phase Line-connected Photovoltaic PCS

In this paper, the transformerless three-phase line-connected PV PCS (photovoltaic power conditioning system) is proposed. An improved P&O (perturb and observe) MPPT (maximum power point tracking) algorithm that prevents local maximum power point tracking is proposed. By controlling the three-phase line-connected voltage source inverter using outer DC-link voltage controller, inner current controller and microcontroller friendly simplified space vector modulation (SVM) method, a unity power factor is achieved. An algorithm is suggested to control the DC-link voltage faster and more correctly for the increase system stability and power factor. All algorithms and controllers are implemented on a single-chip microcontroller and the superiority of the proposed algorithms and controllers is proved by experiments.
Filter Design for Utility Interactive Inverters using Single-Phase Half-Bridge Topology

This paper deals with filter design for utility-interactive voltage-sourced PWM inverters built by single-phase half-bridge topology. By analyzing the relation between utility voltage and the ac output voltage of single-phase half-bridge inverters, the instantaneous voltage applied on the filter inductor is deduced qualitatively and quantitatively. Moreover, switching ripple current through the filter inductor is calculated from the filter inductor voltage. Based on the above mentioned analysis, filter design method is proposed by evaluating the percentage of the switching ripple current against the rated fundamental current. Proposed filter design method is verified by simulation and experiment.
Fault Diagnosis of a Electrolytic Capacitor for Inverter DC-Link Voltage Smoothing

This paper proposes a novel fault diagnosis method of a electrolytic capacitor used for DC-link voltage smoothing in adjustable speed drives. The equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the electrolytic capacitor is directly estimated from DC-link voltage and load currents and the status of the electrolytic capacitor is determined from the estimated ESR. To compensate the variation of the ESR owing to temperature variation, diodes are located on the same PCB near the capacitor and the temperature of the capacitor is sensed indirectly from the voltage drop of diodes. Simulation and experimental studies show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
CIM Based Zero Voltage Switching of Energy Recovery Sustain Driver for AC PDPs with Reduced Sustain Voltage

AC PDP has disadvantages that power consumption and sustain voltage are high. An energy recovery circuit for AC PDPs with reduced sustain voltage was proposed to solve these disadvantages. However, the circuit has disadvantage that the switching elements are performed hard switching at the start point of discharge and sustaining region. The reason is that the panel voltage is lower than sustain voltage at that point. In this paper, we propose the improved driving method that switching devices are operated with ZVS by using CIM(Current Infection Method) also at that point. CIM region is designed by theoretical circuit analysis. Finally, the validity of the proposed driving method is verified by the simulations and experimentation.
Charge-Pump High Voltage Inverter for Plasma Backlight using Current Injection Method

Charge-pump high voltage inverter for Plasma backlight using CIM(Current Injection Method) is proposed in this paper. Adoption of ERC(Energy Recovery Circuit) is a new attempt in high voltage inverter so that it is not only energy recovery but also improvement of discharge stability and system unstability which is interrupted by noise. Using a charge-pump technique enables low voltage switches to be usable, the cost can be reduced. CIM is adopted to achieve high speed energy recovery in proposed circuit. Operations of the proposed circuit are analyzed for each mode. The proposed circuit is verified to be applicable on a 32 inch plasma backlight panel by experimental results.
A Study on Buck-Boost DC-DC Converter of Soft Switching

In this paper, we study on a novel Buck-Boost converter of high efficiency by soft switching method. The proposed Buck-Boost converter is applied to new soft switching method in restraint of increment of switching power loss in the conventional Buck-Boost converter. The soft switching circuit is designed to modification of a energy storage inductor and a snubber circuit used by the conventional converter, and then the proposed converter is simplified. The controlling switches of the proposed converter is operated with soft switching by a partial resonance behavior. The output voltage of the converter is regulated by PWM control technique. The discontinuous mode action of current flowing into inductor makes to simplify control method and control components. The proposed Buck-Boost converter is compared with the conventional converter. Some computer simulative results and experimental results are confirmed to the validity of the analytical results.
Development of 8kW ZVZCS Full Bridge DC-DC Converter by Parallel Operation

In this paper, development of the 8kW parallel module converter is presented. For a effective configuration of FB-PWM converter, this paper proposes 4-parallel operation of 2 kw-module. FB converter of 2-kW module is controlled by phase shut PWM and in order to achieve ZVZCS, the simple auxiliary circuit is applied in secondary side. In order to achieve ZCS, control logic for auxiliary circuit operation is designed to reset the primary current during free-wheeling period. For output current sharing of 4-modules, the charge control is employed. The charge control logic is designed with phase shift PWM logic. Voltage controller is implemented by using DSP(TMS320LF2406) with A/D conversion data of the output current and voltage of each module. The developed converter is installed in PCU(Power Conditioning Unit) for HSG(High Speed Generator) in a vehicle and health monitoring system is implemented for vehicle operation test. Finally, performance of the developed converter is proved under practical operation of HSG.
Smoothing Filter Design Applying a Parameter of a Homo-polar Generator

For satisfying a recommended value of the quality factor which is one of the important elements in a filter design, a new design method of smoothing filter using an internal parameter of a homopolar generator is proposed. The method increases the efficiency and minimizes the size of the smoothing filter by removing the damping resistor. By considering the resonant frequency as well as the quality factor, the new method can improve the stability of the system which has high boosting converters with negative resistance characteristics.

To drive the CCFL In LCD backlight inverter, a new transformer structure with small volume is proposed which have a boosting voltage and a lamp current balancing functions. The proposed transformer structure has been verified through experimental test with 40inch LCD backlight inverter.
Field Application of H-Bridge Multi-level Inverter for Fluidized Bed Combustion Boiler Secondary Air Fan

This thesis proposed H-Bridge Multi-Level Inverter for Fluidized Bed Combustion Boiler Secondary Air Fan in 200MW thermal power plant. The adjustable speed drive systems improve the efficiency in lightly load condition and extend the life span of motor by limiting the over current at starting. H-Bridge Multi-level Inverter is composed of the several series low voltage power cell inverters, which have the independent isolated do link, in each phase. KEPRI(Korea Electric Power Research Institute) has successfully completed to develop, install, and commission H-Bridge Multi-level Inverter(6.6kV, 1MVA). This thesis gives a full detail about H-Bridge Multi-level Inverter, proposed boiler DCS(Distributed Control System) logic, and commissioning test result.
