Parameter Identification of Vector-Controlled Induction Motor using Skin Effect of Rotor Bars at Standstill

This paper suggests a standstill estimator to accurately identify induction motor (IM) parameters necessary for the vector control. A mathematical model that faithfully represents the general skin effect is introduced. Then, two exciting signals with a different frequency are sequentially injected to track the parameters based on the skin effect of the rotor bar. Little knowledge of the unknown motor allows the proposed methodology to employ a closed-loop control of an injected current, rather than open-loop voltage injection approaches. Subsequently, this control scheme proactively prevents electrical accidents resulting from an inadequate open-loop voltage injection. We develop a specialized offline commissioning test to compensate the phase delay resulting from the drive, which significantly affects the precision of the IM parameters. The effectiveness of the identification technique is validated by means of experiments performed on the three different IMs.
A Study on Starting Algorithm of Large Synchronous Motor for Gas Turbine in Field-Weakening Region using SFC

SFC(Static Frequence Converter)system has come to be used as start up drive system for large synchronous motor in many industry applications. Many papers have been presented the control algorithm for pumped storage power generation using SFC system but they did not included about start up algorithm of SFC system for gas turbine. This paper presents the field weakening control algorithm for a large synchronous motor using output signal of anti-windup in PI current regulator and the results of experiment show that the proposed algorithm is proper and effective.
Power Conversion Unit for Hybrid Electric Vehicles

This paper describes design procedure and control strategy of HDC(High side DC/DC Converter) and MCU(Motor Control Unit) for diesel hybrid electric vehicle. In designing HDC and MCU for HEV high power density and reliability is strongly needed to meet the demand of automotive industry. In order to achieve the high performance of a controller, MPC5554 based control board is developed. An optimized film capacitor and inductor are also developed for high efficiency driving. Skim 63 IGBT module of SEMIKRON for automotive is used for power switching device. The most efficient cooling model for optimal size and reliability were verified by simulation. These procedures are verified by bench or driving test and the results are present in this paper.
Simple Switch Open Fault Detection Method for Voltage Source Inverter

Recently, permanent magnet synchronous motor are applied to various applications such as electric vehicle, aerospace, medical service and military applications due to several outstanding characteristics. Because of the importance of high reliable operation in these areas, many research related to the fault detection and diagnosis of inverter system are conducted. In this paper, new simple fault detection method of voltage source inverter for permanent magnet synchronous motor is proposed. The feasibility of the proposed method are improved by simulation and experiment. By the simulation and experiments, rapid detection characteristic of the proposed method has been proved without any additional voltage sensor.
High-Efficiency & Cost-Effective Multi-Output LLC Resonant Converter using Single Transformer

The medium power system for the recent electronic products that can perform the multi-function requires various multi-output, high-efficiency and low cost characteristics. To cope with these critical issues, a new high-efficiency and cost-effective multi-output LLC resonant converter is proposed in this paper. The proposed converter requires only 1 power switch instead of the bulky and expensive non-isolated DC/DC converter. Therefore, it features a simple structure, lower cost and high-efficiency. Especially, since the proposed converter can ensure the ZVS or ZCS of all power switches, it has very desirable advantages such as more improved EMI characteristics and reduced switching losses. Finally, to confirm the operation, validity, and features of the proposed circuit, experimental results from a SMPS prototype for 42" FHD PDP TV are presented.
Analysis of a Synchronizing PLL System for Single-phase Grid-tie Inverters

In the paper, the product-type PLL system, which is so suitable for synchronizing a single phase grid voltage is designed. The PLL system is modelled with the small signal analysis. Both the cut-off frequency of low pass filter and the optimal gain are derived by considering the transient response for synchronization as well as a distortion of synchronization signal. Through the simulation studies and experimental results, the transient response and ripple component of synchronization signal are investigated with a variation of both the cut-off frequency and gain in order to verify the performance of design.
A New Dual Output LLC Resonant DC/DC Converter using Single Control IC

This paper proposes a new multi-output LLC resonant converter by using single control IC, which has the tight-regulated dual output voltage without additional power devices and controller. The proposed converter has master and slave outputs, of which regulations are achieved by the PWM(pulse width modulation) and PFM(pulse frequency modulation), respectively. Different from the conventional dual-output LLC resonant converter, the proposed converter has no additional post-regulators like a boost converter. Therefore, it features a low cost, small size, and high efficiency. To confirm the validity and prove the superiority of proposed converter, simulated and experimental results on a 50" FHD PDP power set prototype are presented.
Series Connected DC/DC Converter for Fuel Cell System using Variable Phase Shift Switching Method

This paper presents a novel series connected DC/DC converter and a proper variable phase shift switching method in order to obtain high voltage ratio for fuel cell system. The proposed series connected DC/DC converter has same rectifier and LC filter for DC output voltage, so it can reduce the number of passive devices regardless of the converter number. In the conventional constant phase shift switching method, the proposed series connected DC converters have inverse bias output voltage. In order to overcome this problem, a simple but proper variable phase shift switching method is proposed in the a novel series connected DC/DC converter. In order to verify the proposed system, simulation and experiments are implemented.
Control of Small PEM Fuel Cell Stack by a Microprocessor

In this paper, control of small PEM(Proton Exchange Membrane) fuel cell stack by a microprocessor is introduced. The water management of fuel cell stack inside, a key technique in fuel cell control, can be achieved by adjusting the required air flow for fuel and cooling, and by purging the excessive water from the stack. It is very important to precisely control the BOS(Balance of Stack) since the stable operation of the fuel cell system mainly depends on it. In this study the fuel efficiency of the system is improved by the control of the system based on the measured air flow and purge cycle during the optimal operation and its effectiveness is proved by the experiments. The operating stability of the system is improved by the developed controller using a microprocessor and it is expected to be widely used for the control of small PEM fuel cell stack.
A Study on Space Vector Modulation Method to Improve Input Power Factor of Matrix Converter

It is very important to design the input filter optimally in matrix converters. But, the input power factor is deteriorated in spite of the optimal filter design due to the existence of inductor and capacitor included in the filter, and it is hard to keep high power factor in the whole operating range which is one of the major advantages of the matrix converters because the power factor is changed according to the output frequency and the load current. In this paper, we introduce the new space vector modulation method which can preserve the input power factor almost unity even though the output load or the output frequency is varied. It is also presented how to implement the proposed method effectively.
Mass Estimation of a Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor Applied at the Vertical Axis

Tuning of the speed controller in the linear servo applications needs the accurate information of a mover mass including a load mass. Therefore this paper proposes the mass estimation method of a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor(PMLSM) applied at the vertical axis by using the recursive Least-Squares estimation algorithm. First, this paper derives the deterministic autoregressive moving average(DARMA) model of the mechanical dynamic system used at the vertical axis. The application of the Least-Squares algorithm to the derived DARMA model gives the mass estimation method. Matlab/Simulink-based simulation and experimental results show that the total mover mass of a PMLSM applied at the vertical axis can be accurately estimated at both no-load and load conditions.
