Modeling and Control of a Grid Connected VSI using a Delta Connected LCL Filter

There are two ways to connect an LCL filter in a grid-connected VSI. A wye connected LCL filter is general way, and the other is a delta connected LCL filter. While a model of a system with a wye connected LCL filter is calculated, a model of a system with a delta connected LCL filter is not formulated. Thus, we propose a mathematical model of a system with a delta connected LCL filter. Also, a comparative study of capacitor current harmonics of a delta connected LCL filter and a wye connected LCL filter is included. Experimental results exhibit that it is advantageous to control grid currents for a system with a delta connected LCL filter.
Scanning Backlight Driver for Mercury Free Flat Fluorescent Lamp

A lamp which is currently employed to LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) Backlight is almost CCFL(Cold Cathod Fluorescent Lamp) and EEFL(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp). However, the use of these lamps is being restricted as RoHS(the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment) regulation is gradually reinforced. According to this situation, the manufacturing of a lamp which doesn't use mercury is unescapable. Moreover, LCD TV has a defect which take place Motion Blur phenomenon due to response time of LC(Liquid Crystal), and Hold-type characteristic which only exists in LCD differently to CRT, PDP. In this paper, an inverter is proposed to drive a plane light source lamp which is not containing mercury. Driving circuit of proposed inverter is simple because the number of semiconductor device and magnetic device is reduced by using forward topology. Also, Motion Blur phenomenon is decreased by dividing the plane light source lamp to six block along vertical direction, and scanning. Finally, we proved usefulness of proposed inverter through experiment.
Sensorless Control of PMSG for Small Wind Turbines

In this paper, a sensorless control of PMSG(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator) for small wind turbine systems, which is based on stator flux and back-emf estimation. Also, a cost-effective AE/DC/AC converter that consists of a two-leg three-phase PWM converter and a half-bridge PWM converter is used for vector control of PMSG, which is impossible with the conventional diode-rectifier type converter. A sensorless control algorithm can eliminate pulse encoders for speed measurement, which reduces the system cost. Using PSIM simulation, the validity of the converter control performance and MPPT control of PMSG have been verified.
New High Performance and Low Cost Construction of Unified Power System for LCD TV Backlight Driver Circuitb

A new high performance and low cost unified power system is proposed through investigating conventional Power-Integrated Drive(PID) system and Power-Separated Drive(PSD) system applied to LCD TV. Since the proposed system consists of two stage, namely power and inverter stage it features high efficiency and cost effectiveness. To satisfy the safety standard of the High voltage transformer, 1:1 transformer is employed between inverter and high voltage transformer. Moreover, to ensure the Zero Voltage Switching(ZVS) of all power switches and the Pulse Count Modulation(PCM) method is employed, which controls the number of pulse at the fixed frequency and fixed duty cycle. Therefore, it features high efficiency, improved heat generation, cost effectiveness and good EMI performance including no additional current balancing coil. To confirm the validity of proposed system, comparison of conventional system, verification of experimental results are presented.
The Ballast for Field Emission Lamp with CNT Emitter

Hybrid ballast for field emission lamp with CNT (carbon nano tube) emitter is proposed. Hybrid ballast consists of a high voltage dc part and hi-polar pulse generation part. Field emission lamp with CNT lamp is composed of three electrodes (anode, gate, and cathode). High voltage dc part is for anode and gate and hi-polar pulse generation part is for gate and cathode in CNT triode respectively. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed topology is good for driving CNT lamp. To protect the lamp and ballast, OCP (Over Current Protection), OVP (Over Voltage Protection), and OTP (Over Temperature Protection) are added and the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is good for driving field emission lamp with CNT emitter.
Voltage Control of Synchronous Generator for Ships using a PMG Type Digital Automatic Voltage Regulator

To get the constant output, synchronous generator field excitation is controlled by AVR(Automatic Voltage Regulator). Most of ships generator AVR uses the thyristor phase controlled rectifier. However this rectifier is difficult to realize that the fast control system because its control period is slower than MOSFET and IGBT type converter. Therefore, this paper deals with PMG(Permanent Magnet Generator) type digital AVR using MOSFET switch for ships synchronous generator. The composition of this digital AVR is very simple, the generator is under the short circuit accident, the output voltage becomes zero state and AVR can not operate. Thus generator is required to add CBC(Current Boosting Circuit) in an excitation circuit to flow output current. The performance of the proposed system is evaluated on a 10[kVA] experimental prototype circuit in place of real ships generator.
Zero-Current Switching LLC Resonant Post-Regulator for Independent Multi-Output

A new zero-current switching LLC resonant post-regulator for multi-output power system is proposed in this paper. A conventional LLC resonant converter employs extra non-isolated DC/DC converters to obtain tight-regulated multi-slave output voltages. Therefore, it has several serious problems such as a poor efficiency and high cost of production. The proposed post-regulator features low voltage and current stress across the output rectifier diodes and power switches. Moreover, the proposed post-regulator requires only one power switch instead of the bulky and expensive non-isolated DC/DC converter. Therefore, it features a simple structure and lower cost. Especially, since the proposed post-regulator can ensure the ZCS of all power switches, it has very desirable advantages such as more improved EMI characteristics and reduced switching losses. Finally, to confirm the operation, validity, and features of the proposed circuit, experimental results from a proposed zero-current LLC resonant post-regulator are presented.
Performance Improvement of a Buck Converter using a End-order Space Dithered Sigma-Delta Modulation based Random PWM Switching Scheme

This paper proposes the 2nd-order SDSDM (Space Dithered Sigma-Delta Modulation) for performance improvement of a buck converter. The PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) has a drawback in that power spectrum tends to be concentrated around the switching frequency. The resulting harmonic spikes cause a EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) and switching loss in semiconductor, etc. The 1st-order SDSDM scheme is a kind of DSDM for reducing these harmonic spikes. In this scheme, a switching frequency is spread through random dither generator placed on input part. In experimental result, the proposed 2nd-order SDSDM is confirmed by applying to a buck converter.
Performance Evaluation of Switching Amplifier in Micro-positioning Systems with Piezoelectric Actuator

In this paper, an improved drive method of piezoelectric PZT stack actuator for micro-positioning system is proposed and the performances are evaluated. This type of amplifier is based on switching technology efficiently handling the arbitrary regenerative energy from the piezoelectric actuator. The conventional voltage-feedback control method has the THD of -32dB (
) with 100mHz sinusoidal reference, which means that the positioning performance in linearity degrades due to the hysteretic relationship between actuator voltage and the displacement. This paper proposed an improved charge-controlling method, which utilizes differential information of charge reference instead of integrating the actuator's current. The current waveform has THD under -40dBV (=1%) and the displacement waveform nearly -52dB (
), which means that the positioning performance is very excellent. Finally, another method of the displacement feedback control has better performance than the voltage method, however there exists a limitation in performance of the system.
A Study On High Power Factor Sine Pulse Type Power Supply For Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Cleaning System with 3-Phase PFC Boost Converter

This paper presents quasi-resonant type high power factor ac power supply for atmospheric pressure plasma cleaning system adopting three phase PFC boost converter and it's control method. The presented ac power supply consists of single phase H-bridge inverter, step-up transformer for generating high voltage and three phase PFC boost converter for high power factor on source utility. Unlikely to the traditional LC resonant converter, the propose one has an inductor inside only. A single resonant takes place through the inside inductor and the capacitor from the plasma load modeled into two series capacitor and one resistance. The quasi-resonant can be achieved by cutting the switching signal when the load current decrease to zero. To obtain power control ability, the propose converter controlled by two control schemes. One is the changing output pulse period scheme in the manner of PFM(Pulse Frequency Modulation) control. On the other, to provide more higher power to load, the DC rail voltage is directly controlled by the 3-phase PFC boost converter. The significant merits of the proposed converter are the uniform power providing capability for high quality plasma generation and low reactive power in AC and DC side. The proposed work is verified through digital simulation and experimental implementation.
Position Error Compensation at the Sensorless Control of PMSM using Rectangular 2 Hall Sensors

Low costed position sensor or sensorless control method is generally used in the motor control for home appliance because of the material cost and manufacture standard restriction. In conventional sensorless method, the stator resistance and back-EMF coefficient are varied by the motor speed and load torque variation. Therefore, position error occurred when the motor is operated by sensorless control method because of these variations. In this paper, the compensation method is proposed for sensorless position error using 2 hall sensors.
