Analog MPPT Tracking MPP within One Switching Cycle for Photovoltaic Applications

Tracking the Maximum Power Point(MPP) of a photovoltaic(PV) array is usually an essential part of a PV system. The problem considered by MPPT techniques is to find the voltage
at which a PV array should operate to generate the maximum power output PMPP under a given temperature and irradiance. The MPPT control methods, such as the perturb and observe method and the incremental conductance method require microprocessor or DSP to determine if the duty cycle should be increased or not. This paper proposes a simple and fast analog MPPT method. The proposed control scheme will track the MPP very fast and its hardware implementation is so simple, compared with the conventional techniques. The new algorithm has successfully tracked the MPP, even in case of rapidly changing atmospheric conditions, and Has higher efficiency than ordinary algorithms.
Performance Improvement of Single-phase PLL Control using State Observer

This paper proposes a single-phase Phase-locked loop (PLL) of the virtual two phase generator using full-order state observer, which is essential to find phase and frequency of the single-phase source. The conventional methods cannot remove the low-order harmonics included in source voltage, which influencesto whole PLL control system. The proposed algorithm separates fundamental wave from harmonics, and removes harmonics effectively. Therefore it generates only the fundamental wave. As it controls virtual voltage and input voltage together, it decreases steady-state error. From simulation and experimental results, the generated frequency by the proposed PLL which it plans, converges to the actual value, and the steady-state error is much reduced under given harmonic voltages. It is also confirmed that the proposed algorithm removed harmonics effectively and it generates only the fundamental wave.
Plug-in BLDC Control System using DC-link Communication

The powers used in the motor drive system are mostly DC sources like batteries. Even AC powers in some systems are generated from DC sources by the inverter. It is can be forecasted that the DC-link communications will be widely used in various industrial fields. In this paper a novel BLDC motor drive system using DC-link communications is proposed. The characteristic of this system Is that the communication only needs 2 DC lines. There are not additional lines to translate the reference signals. And the reliability o3 the system is ensured especially under some terrible circumstances. The number of lines can be minimized when the DC-link communication method is applied in the multi motor control system and the slip ring design also can be simplified when this method is applied in rotation machines. The proposed motor system is clarified by the PSIM and MATLAB simulations and tested through the hardware prototype.
Speed Control of High Speed Miniature BLDCM Based on Software PLL

This paper presents a PLL(Phase Lock Loop) approach for effective speed and torque control of high speed miniature BLDCM(Brushless DC Motor) using hall sensor. The proposed speed control method based on PLL uses only a phase shift between reference pulse signal according to speed reference and actual pulse signal from hall sensor. It doesn't use any speed calculation, and calculates a direct current reference from phase shift. The current reference is changed to reduce the phase shift between reference and actual pulse. So the actual speed can keep the reference speed. The proposed control scheme is very simple but effective speed control is possible. In order to obtain a smooth torque production, the reference current is changed using acceleration and deceleration slope. The proposed control scheme is verified by experimental results of the 50W, 40,000[rpm] high speed miniature BLDCM.
A New Pulse Frequency Modulation(PFM) Series Boost Capacitor(SBC) Full Bridge DC/DC Converter

This paper proposes a new Pulse Frequency Modulation(PFM)-Series Boost Capacitor(SBC) full bridge DC/DC Converter which features a high efficiency and high power density. The proposed converter controls the output voltage by varying the voltage across the series boost capacitor according to switching frequency and has no freewheeling period due to 50% fixed duty operation. As a result, its conduction loss is lower than that of the conventional phase shift full bridge converter. Moreover, ZVS of all power switches can be ensured along wide load ranges and output current ripple is very small. Therefore, it has very desirable merits such as a small output inductor, high efficiency, and improved heat generation. This paper performs a rationale and PSIM simulation of the proposed converter. Finally, experimental results from a 1.2kW(12V, 100A) prototype are presented to confirm the operation, validity and features of the proposed converter.
Development of High Voltage Power Supply for Image Intensifier Tube

This paper describes the development of a miniature high voltage power supply for driving an image intensifier tube (IIT). The IIT is used for portable night vision devices to observe an object in the dark. A small-sized high voltage power supply generating thousands volts from the battery power source is needed to drive the IIT. This paper presents the design and implementation of the high voltage power supply for the IIT. The experimental results are provided to verify the operation of the developed power supply.
Enhanced Dynamic Response of SRF-PLL System in a 3 Phase Grid-Connected Inverter

The new method is proposed to improve the dynamics of the phase angle detector during abrupt voltage dip caused by a grid fault. Usually, LPF(low pass filter) is used in the feedback loop of SRF(Synchronous Reference Frame) - PLL (Phase Locked Loop) system because the measured grid voltage contains harmonic distortions and sensor noises. A better transient response can be obtained with the proposed design method for SRF-PLL by the analysis of linearized model of the PLL system including LPF. Furthermore, in the proposed method, the controller gain and LPF cut-off frequency are changed from normal value to transient value when the voltage disturbance is detected. This paper shows the feasibility and the usefulness of the proposed methods through the computer simulation and the experiment.
Control and Operating Characteristics of Three-Phase Matrix Converter with Unity Power Factor by Direct Duty-Ratio Modulation Method

This paper investigates operating characteristics of three-phase matrix converter with unity input power factor by direct duty-ratio pulse-width modulation in the case of balanced and unbalanced load. It can be found from the system analysis that (1) The control algorithm for unity power factor is not related to the variables of load sides but the input voltages, (2) With the balanced three-phase load except for the pure reactive load, the unity input power factor can be achieved, (3) In the case of the unbalanced linear load, the equivalent input characteristics of the matrix converter can be seen like the nonlinear resister, (4) When the input frequency and the output frequency have the specific relationship, each input phases have the same sharing of the average power. The feasibility and validity of the analysis were verified by simulation and experimental results.
The Load Estimation Algorithm of the Drum Washing Machine using an Inertia Estimator

Generally, the operating efficiency of the washing machine is mostly affected by the washing time. The washing time is determined by the amount and the type of the laundry. Although the type of the laundry is easily inputted by the user, but the amount of the laundry is difficult to do. For this reason, the specific process is existed for the estimation of the laundry and the time of the washing mode is determined by the estimated laundry. Therefore, this paper proposes the washing load estimation algorithm by the inertia estimator. The proposed algorithm is implemented on the PMSM drive using the low cost position sensor for practical washing machine application. The proposed algorithm is verified by the drum washing machine for the practical load condition test.
Characteristics Analysis of RPV and AFD for Anti-Islanding in Active Method

To detect islanding mode when the grid is being tripped is a major safety issue in the Utility Interactive Photo Voltaic (UIPV) system. In this paper, analytical design method is suggested for AFD & RPV method under IEEE 929-2000 recommended islanding test condition. We have discussed that there is a same point. we injected reactive component of the current by AFD & RPV methods, but the current reference generated is other waveform. Possible if amount of reactive components in this methods are same each method, there is happened same rates frequency variation. To verify the validity of the analytical comparison, this paper presents simulation and experimental results from single phase, 3[kW] inverter for the transformerless UIPV system.
Sensorless Control of High-speed Type PMSM in Wide Speed Range using an Iterative Adaptive Flux Observer

This paper proposes an enhanced algorithm for sensorless control of 45,000rpm/22kw type Permanent Magnetic Synchronous Motor (PMSM) with air-foil bearing. The proposed algorithm is based on iterative adaptive flux observer for sensorless control of the motor in wide speed range by on-line estimating angle and velocity of rotor. Simulation error between actual and estimated angle of rotor is analyzed to enhance characteristics of frequency response of conventional adaptive flux observer, which results in stable response in wide range of speed. Using the iteration number for stable phase-delay characteristics, the observer enhances the dynamic characteristics of the observer within current control period. The experiment results show the reliable performance of the proposed algorithm through starting to high speed operating range.
