Design of High Power Density AC/DC Adapter

The proposed method offers an improved control method for high power density AC/DC adapter by using more energy efficient electrical equipments. Power factor corrector (PFC) topology is based on boost topology with boundary conduction mode (BCM) and DC/DC topology is based on LLC resonant converter, which helps to reduce size of the semiconductor and the magnetic devices. Test results with 85W AC/DC adapter (18.5V/4.6A) design shows that the measured efficiency is 90% at

Study on the Harmonic Extraction Technique of the Power Conditioning System using High Performance DSP Controller

The main function of the power conditioning system (PCS) is grid-connection with renewable system. The level of total harmonic distortion(THD) caused by the PCS should be maintained less than 5% according to the IEEE-1547 regulation. The THD is measured by the dedicated instrument, not by the PCS in the domestic products. There should be the necessity for harmonic measurement by the PCS in order to cope with degradation or fault condition. In this paper, the real-time harmonic measurement technique using highperformance DSP controller is presented. The proto-system is manufactured using 32-bit floating DSP processor and tested with 256-point DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) algorithm. The test result shows that the harmonic calculation time is less than 1 [ms]. It can be used as a auxiliary method for predicting the fault in the PCS system.
CCP and ICP Combination Impedance Matching Device for Uniformity Improvement of Semiconductor Plasma Etching System

This paper proposes a DFPS (Dual Frequency Power Source) impedance matching device for uniformity improvement of a semiconductor plasma etching system. The DFPS consists of two parts for safe plasma processing on large-area substrates. The first part is an ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) for high integration by using ferrite core. The second part is a CCP (Capacitive Coupled Plasma) to control uniformity of whole cells. Proposed DFPS can achieve high productivity improvement required for semiconductor equipment industry. The proposed plasma system is analyzed, simulated and experimentally verified with a matching equipment at 27.12MHz and 400kHz.

This paper proposes a new nonlinear speed controller with a fuzzy load torque observer based on the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy method for a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). The LMI conditions are derived for the existence of the proposed nonlinear speed controller and fuzzy load torque observer, and the LMI parameterization to obtain the gain matrices of the controller and observer is given. In this paper, to verify the performance of the proposed nonlinear speed controller and fuzzy load torque observer, and the simulation and experimental results are demonstrated under motor parameter and load torque variations.
Implementation of an FPGA-based Multi-Carrier PWM Techniques for Multilevel Inverter

Multi-level inverters have drawn much of attention in recent years because it can meet the demand of high power applications and good power quality associated with reduced harmonic distortion. As the number of voltage level increases, field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are suitable for the implementation of multi-level modulation algorithm. This paper proposes the implementation method for generating PWM pulses at the three phase diode clamped five-level inverter using FPGA. The strategy for communicating stably the data of three-phase reference voltages between the DSP and FPGA is suggested. The techniques for generating PWM signals based on a multi-carrier modulation method are carried out through the experiments with 32-bit DSP and Cyclone-III FPGA.
Three-Parallel System Operation and Grid-Connection Technique for High-Power Wind Turbines using a PMSG

This paper proposes a design of the three-parallel converter system and grid-connection technique for a PMSG based wind turbine systems. The back-to-back converter of the PMSG based wind turbine system is directly connected to the grid so that both the power devices and the filters are needed to have large power ratings. The three-parallel converter configuration can reduce the required power ratings of the devices and filters. However, the three-parallel converter can cause circulating currents. These circulating currents can be suppressed by sellecting proper inner inductance at each leg. An LCL filter design is used to meet the THD regulations. The latent resonance caused by the LCL filter is compensated by an active damping method without additional loss. The decline of the power quality caused by the unbalanced and distorted grid voltages is also compensated with an additional compensation algorithm. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed system and compensation methods are effective for the wind turbine systems.
Flicker Estimation for Wind Turbine Systems using SVR

This paper presents a simulation model based on support vector regression (SVR) for flicker estimation emitted from the wind turbines. For the SVR training, the voltage variation and flicker level are selected as input and output, respectively. Through the off-line training, the relationship between the voltage variation and flicker level is derived. The required amount of data for the flicker measurement is decreased and its proessing time is also reduced. The simulation and experiment results have shown that the flicker estimation is performed accurately.

The power supply devices for reducing the size of the LCD TV are increasingly required for high efficiency and highe power density. Recently, the LED backlight of the LCD TV comes into the spotlight for LCD TV, because the conventional CCFL backlight has difficult to use constantly according to the mercury restrictions. And In this paper, the LLC resonant converter using the planar transformer for slim-type LED backlight of LCD TV is presented and verified through an experimental prototype for 47 inch LCD TVs with LED backlight system.
A Single-Phase Quasi Z-Source Dynamic Voltage Restorer(DVR)

This paper deals with a single-phase dynamic voltage restorer(DVR) with a quasi Z-source topology. The proposed system based on a single-phase quasi Z-source PWM ac-ac converter which have features such as the input voltage and output voltage are sharing ground, and input current operates in continuous current mode(CCM). For the detection of voltage sag-swell, peak voltage detection method is applied. Also, the circuit principles of the proposed system are described. During the 60% severe voltage sag and 30% voltage swell, the proposed system controls the adding or missing voltage and maintains the rated voltage of sinusoidal waveform at the terminals of the critical loads. Finally, PSIM simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the proposed concept and theoretical analysis.
BLAC Drive System for Electro-Magnetic Brake

The electric braking system obtains its braking force by a motor instead of the hydraulic brake which has been used in conventional automobile systems. Electric braking system is consisted of fewer numbers of components than hydraulic braking system, and it has effects of improved response and reduced braking distance for the ABS(Anti-lock Brake System) and ESC(Electronic Stability Control). This paper presents the BLAC motor drive system for Electro-Magnetic Brake(EMB). Proposed control system consists of the power converter for driving a motor and the digital control system for speed control, and the vector control is applied for fast torque response. It is verified through the simulation using Matlab/Simulink and experiment that the proposed BLAC drive system can be applied to EMB.
