Study on the Islanding Detection Technique of the Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System using Grid Voltage Harmonic Coefficients

This paper proposes a new islanding detection method for a grid-connected photovoltaic system. It is based on the fact that the equivalent harmonic components vary according to the grid connection status. The advantage of the proposed method is the reduced Non-Detection Zone and fast detection time. Also it can have the robust detection capability against grid disturbances. The theoretic analysis using grid-harmonic modeling is performed and verified by test result using 32-bit high performance DSP processor.
Design of an Adaptive Speed Regulator for a Surface-Mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

This paper proposes a new adaptive speed controller for the speed control of a surface-permanent magnet synchronous motor. The proposed adaptive controller is very insensitive to model parameter and load torque variations since it does not require any accurate information on the motor parameter and load torque values. Moreover, the stability of the proposed control system is analytically proven. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive speed controller, simulation and experimental results are shown under motor parameter and load torque variations. It is clearly validated that the proposed speed regulator can precisely control the speed of permanent magnet synchronous motors.
A LC Series Resonant Boost Converter Using a Single Switch

In this paper, a LC series resonant boost converter using a single switch is proposed. The proposed topology contains additional passive elements in the conventional boost converter and performs Zero Voltage Switching(ZVS) without an additional auxiliary switch when a main switch turned on and off. The switch off time of the proposed system determined by LC series resonance, thus a on-time variable Pulse Frequency Modulation(PFM) method is adapted to control output voltage in the proposed converter. Operational modes of the proposed topology are divided with respected to the current conduction paths and then through the theoretical analysis and experimental results, operational modes and characteristics of the proposed converter are verified.
Design of DC-DC Converter to Charge and Discharge Lithium Battery Using Isolated Boost Converter and Forward Converter

Lithium battery is widely used as the power source of various electronic devices. The formation process which is the repeated charging and discharging process is essential in the production of lithium battery. In this paper, it is proposed and designed the DC-DC converter that can charge and also discharge the lithium battery in one converter. The proposed converter is designed by considering the charge/discharge characteristics of the lithium battery. The converter is operated as a forward converter in charging process and a electrically isolated boost converter in discharging process. Based on the analyses, the number of transformer turns, inductor, capacitor, and switching devices are designed. Finally, the validity of the design for the proposed converter is verified by both simulations and experiments.
Performance Analysis of Grid Connected Back-to-Back Converter Composed of Multi-pulse Converter and PWM Converter

This paper describes the performance comparison results for a hybrid back-to-back converter, which is composed of a 3-level 24-pulse converter and a 3-level PWM converter, in order to interconnect a large scale wind farm with the power grid. Also it describes the performance comparison results when the 24-pulse converter operates in only firing-angle control, and both firing-angle and the zero-voltage control. For the purpose of systematic performance comparison, computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC software were carried out, and based on simulation results a scaled hardware model with 2 kVA rating was built and tested.

The interest is coming to be high, recently with depletion of the fossil fuel and with carbon dioxide exhaust limit about emittion, from a car of Internal combustion engine to Electric vehicle. AC-DC converter is necessary to battery charging which is an electric vehicle energy storage. Necessary conditions of the converter are necessary for wide output voltage range, high efficiency, high power factor etc. It is composed two stages for wide output voltage range and insulation. Preliminary stage uses LLC resonant converter and the after stage uses BOOST converter PFC circuit for being considered a power factor and confirmed experimentally.

In this paper, for the notebook adapter with power level below approximately 60W, a novel LLC resonant converter preceded by diode rectifier with a capacitor filter is presented. Due to the switching operation of the auxiliary switching device, the proposed LLC resonant converter can deliver power with the high efficiency characteristics from the universal line(110VAC/220VAC) and load conditions. The operating schemes on the proposed converter are analyzed and described. A 60W prototype product is built, tested and verified.

Recently, Power Conditioning System (PCS) tends to become more compact, and tends to require higher efficiency, and higher power density with better performance. To meet these requirements, a novel topology consisted of LLC resonant inverter with two resonant tanks for low power losses and Low Frequency (LF) cyclo-converter for sine wave filtering is proposed. The operating schemes are analyzed and described. A 400W proto product is built, tested and verified the performances by connecting the 110Vac 60Hz utility line.
PSIM Simulator for Analysis of Series HEV Operation

This paper describes the PSIM simulator for the analysis of the series type HEV operation. The traction force of the series type HEV of which engine is electrically coupled with a traction motor is supplied from the traction motor only. The rating of each power train components, such as gear, motor, ESS, ICE/generator, is designed with the Energy-Based Modeling method and the Electrical Peaking Hybrid(ELPH) method. Under driving cycle, the designed series HEV is evaluated with the developed PSIM simulator. A comparison between the conventional braking and the regenerative braking is performed with the average motor input power. And the fuel economy analysis is carried out on the basis of the simulation results.

In-Wheel System is a high-efficiency system to supply a new concept of platform which raises the efficiency of motor drive system and applies it to an environment-friendly automobile by installing a highly efficient electric motor directly to wheels and removing factors of power train. The proliferation of these systems is directly related to the safety of our lives, so check the reliability of the part in the development phase and should be certified. Reliability is the ability of a system or component to perform its required functions under stated conditions for a specified period of time. This paper presents to the verification methods for durability, one of reliability assessments of the Motor, the study calculated acceleration and deceleration torque and the effective torque from driving conditions of In-Wheel Motor, and based on this, it reduced the test time and suggested the verification methods of In-Wheel Motor reliability through the accelerated life test.
