Dynamic Characteristics Improvement of Three-phase PWM Converter for Arc Welding Machine Using Feedforward Compensator
The Transactions of the Korean Institute of Power Electronics, volume 5, issue 5, 2000, Pages 419~426
Generally diode rectifier has been used as Preregulator of arc- welding machine. Its defect is the generation of high current harmonics which result In utility pollution. In this parer, using the three-phase PWM converter, the input performance of arc-welding machine is improved by increasing the input power factor. When the diode rectifier in the arc-welding machine is replaced with three-phase PWM converter, PWM converter should control DC voltage of the output side. If PI controller is used for the output DC voltage regulator, the output DC voltage has high ripple voltage due to the instantaneous load variation in the arc-welding machine. In this paper, the feedforward compensator has been introduced to reduce the DC voltage ripple. It lessens the influence of load current which is the disturbance of the output DC voltage regulator. Theoretical prediction of this analysis has been verified by comparing with experimental data
A Study on the Start-Up Scheme of Direct Vector Controlled Induction Motor System
The Transactions of the Korean Institute of Power Electronics, volume 5, issue 5, 2000, Pages 427~434
The paper proposes a zero speed start-up scheme of direct rector controlled induction motor drive without any torque jerk. At standstill condition, a method is derived to calculate a stator flux with only stator current. The programmable 3-stage low pass filters with programmable time constants is used in order to solute the problem of integration for stator flux estimation in the direct vector control mode. Due to the time delay of 3-stage low pass filter, the status flux decreases rapidly and also the torque jerk occurs during the transition from standstill mode to the direct rector control mode. A feedforward control strategy of the stator flux is suggested to prevent the torque jerk at start-up. Through results of simulation and experiment with 32 bit DSP, the performance of the start-up scheme is verified.

Started upon Its discovery by Wright et al in 1773, studies on the solid polymer electrolyte are being carried out vigorously. So, models of Li-polymer battery have been developed through R-L-C components combination and PSpice functional block in this parer. The impedance characteristics of Li-polymer battery with R-L-C components are presented. Simulation results using PSpice functional model are compared with measured charge/discharge characteristics. Also, as to the number of cycle(charge/discharge), coulomb efficiency of Li-polymer is evaluated through experimental results.
A Study on the Reduction of high frequency leakage current in PWM inverter fed Induction Motor
The Transactions of the Korean Institute of Power Electronics, volume 5, issue 5, 2000, Pages 443~450
A PWM inverter for an induction motor often has a problem with a high frequency leakage current that flows through stray capacitors between stator windings and a motor frame to ground. This paper proposes a new type of Active Common Mode Voltage Canceler circuit for the reduction of common mode voltage and high frequency leakage current generated by the PWM VSI-fed induction motor drives. The compensating voltage applied by the common made voltage canceler has the same amplitude as, hut the opposite polarity to, the common mode voltage by PWM Inverter. Therefore, common mode voltage and high frequency leakage current can be canceled. The proposed circuit consists of four-level half-bridge inverter and common-mode transformer. Simulated and experimental results show that common mode voltage canceler makes significant contributions to reducing a high frequency leakage current.
풍력발전을 위한 이중여자 유도기의 센서리스 제어
The Transactions of the Korean Institute of Power Electronics, volume 5, issue 5, 2000, Pages 451~458
In wind power generating system connected in power grid, the value of stator flux has almost constant because the stator side of doubly fed induction machine(DFIM) is connected to power grid. Using the stator and rotor current, it is possible to estimate the slip angle and rotor speed. A stator flux orientation scheme and rotor slip estimator are employed to achieve control of generating power in stator side. To verify the theoretical analysis, a 5-hp DFIM prototype system and PWM power converter are built. Results of computer simulation and experiment are presented to support the discussion.
Precision Speed Control of PMSM for Stimulation of the Vestibular System Using Rotatory Chair
The Transactions of the Korean Institute of Power Electronics, volume 5, issue 5, 2000, Pages 459~466
A new control method for precision robust speed control of a PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) using load torque observer is presented. Using this system, we can more precisely evacuate of vestibular function. Until now a rotating chair system, so called 2D-stimulator, which has vertical rotate axis is used to make dizziness. However, an inclined rotating chair system witch is called 3D-stimulator is needed to obtain the precise dizziness data. This 3D-stimulator include unbalanced load caused by unbalanced center of mass. In this case, new compensation method is considered to obtain robust speed control using load torque observer. To reduce the effect of this disturbance, we can use dead-beat observer that has high gain. The application of the load to torque observer is published in for position control. However, there is a problem of using speed information such as amplifying effect of noise. Therefore, we can reduce a noise effect by moving average process. The experimental results are depicted in this paper to show the effect of this proposed algorithm.

The Transactions of the Korean Institute of Power Electronics, volume 5, issue 5, 2000, Pages 467~474
This paper describes the development of 7he utility vehicle controller using combination system of battery and photovoltaic power for increasing operation time. In order to keep interchangeability, low cost and high performance, a separately excited DC Motor is controlled without velocity and current measurements by

A Study on Control and Compensating Characteristics of Active Series Voltage Compensator with Harmonic Current Compensating Capability
The Transactions of the Korean Institute of Power Electronics, volume 5, issue 5, 2000, Pages 484~492
In this paper, a voltage compensator with harmonic current compensating capability is studied and its compensating characteristics are analyzed. Like the hybrid active power filter, the proposed system is composed of parallel LC passive filter and series PWM converter connected to power line through series transformer. It is shown that the compensation of harmonic current generated due to nonlinear loads such as diode rectifier and instantaneous voltage compensation of the source are performed through the proposed compensating system. The operating principle of the proposed system is described through a single-phase equivalent circuit and the control strategy is suggested on the d-q rotating reference frame of the 3-phase system. Also, experiment is carried out to verify compensating characteristics of the proposed system.

The Transactions of the Korean Institute of Power Electronics, volume 5, issue 5, 2000, Pages 501~507
A nobel low-cost, simple and unity-power-factor electronic ballast is presented. The proposed electronic ballast employs a bypassing capacitor- and load networks composed of ballast capacitors and small charge pump capacitors as power factor correction circuit combined with the secondary winding of the transformer in the self-excited current-fed push-pull resonant inverter(CF-PPRI), resulting in cost-effectiveness and higher efficiency. By analyzing the princip1es of power factor correction mathematically, optimum design guidelines are presented. Since the lamps are used in power factor correction stage, the input power is automatically adjusted according to the number of the lamps.
