A novel integrated battery charger/discharger converter for a standardized battery module is proposed. Instead of using separate charger and discharger converters, it integrates these two converters into a single converter in order to minimize the size. The integrated charger/discharger converter not only regulates the solar array output power including the peak power tracking capability but also controls the battery charging/discharging current depending on the solar array output power and the load power. In addition, it offers a regulated bus voltage which simplifies the power distribution/conversion for the pay load.
3-Phase Hybrid Series Active Power Filter with Instantaneous Voltage Fluctuations Compensation

In this paper, 3-phase hybrid series active power filter for compensate current harmonics, voltage drop and unbalanced voltage in the network presented. The proposed system is implemented with a space vector modulation voltage source inverter and a high pass filter connected in parallel to the power system. Here the load is six-pulses thyristor rectifier. The phase angle detected in order to generation reference voltage at load terminal is synchronized with the positive sequence component of the unbalanced source by using symmetrical component transformation. The proposed system has an function harmonic isolation between source and load, voltage regulation, and unbalance compensation. Therefore, what the power system is improved quality, the source current is maintained as a nearly sinusoidal waveform and the load voltage is regulated with a rated voltage regardless of the source variation condition. To verify the validity of the proposed compensating system, the computer simulation and experiment are carried out.
Auto-measurement of Motor Parameters for Sensorless Vector Control of Induction Motors

Most of the sensorless vector control methods use the equivalent circuit of induction motors. Therefore parameter auto-measurement of drive motor is essential function in commercial sensorless vector control inverters. The accuracy of motor parameter measurement greatly affects the performance of sensorless vector control. In this paper limitations of conventional measurement methods are examined, and new measurement methods are proposed to solve those limitations.
A Study on the PFC-Inverter with the ZVT-Switching Method

A soft-switching PFC-Inverter for using AC motor drive such as the inverter air-conditioner with single phase medium size is proposed. In order to improve the power factor and the efficiency, in this paper, the ZVT topoloty in the conventional PFC-Inverter is adopted. So, the operation mode of the proposed ZVT PFC-Inverter is analyzed and the optimum circuit is designed. At last, the PSPICE, PSIM simulation and experiment results are presented in order to verify the validity of the proposed circuit.
Pulse Multiplication of 6-Pulse Thyristor Converter with Simple Auxiliary Circuit

A new pulse multiplication technique based on 6-pulse thyristor converters is proposed in this paper. With the proposed technique, 12-pulse, 18-pulse and 24-pulse operations have been obtained both on the input current and on the output voltage. A control strategy over the whole range of phase angle is provided along with sophisticated input current and output voltage analysis. Experimental results from a laboratory prototype verify the proposed theory.
Parameter Estimation of Two-mass System using Adpative System and Acceleration Information

In this paper, a novel estimation alogrithm of mechanical parameters in two-mass system proposed. The inertia of a load and a motor and the stiffness are estimated by using RLS(Recursive Least Square) algorithm and acceleration information of motor. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified with simulation and experiments results.
A Voltage Disturbance Detection Method for Computer Application Lods

Power Quality Compensator(PQC) has been installed to protect the sensitive loads against the voltage disturbances, such as voltage sag and interruption. In general, static switch is used for the purpose of link between utility and PQC. So transfer operation of the static switch play a important part in the PQC. Many studies on the structure and control of PQC have been progressed in active, but these researches have been rarely mentioned about any voltage-disturbances-detection method to start the PQC operation. In this paper, a new voltage-disturbances-detection algorithm for computer application loads using the CBEMA/ITIC curve is proposed for transfer operation of the static switch. The proposed detection algorithm is implemented to get fast detecting time through the comparison of instantaneous 3-phase voltage values transferred to DC values in the synchronous reference frame with the operating reference values. To get the robust characteristics against the noise, a first order digital filter is designed. The magnitude falling and phase delay caused by the filter are compensated through the error normalizing and numerical analysis using transfer function, respectively. Finally, the validity of the proposed algorithm is proved by ACSL simulation and experimental results.
A Novel Control Scheme of Three-Phase PWM Rectifiers Eliminating AC-Side Sensors

In this paper, a novel control scheme of three-phase PWM rectifiers using only dc-side sensors is proposed. The phase currents are reconstructed from switching states of the rectifier and the dc output current. For effective current control, the currents are estimated by a predictive state observer. Also, both the phase angle and the magnitude of the source voltage are estimated by controlling the deviation between the model current and the system current to be zero. The validity of the proposed ac phase and current sensorless technique has been verified by experimental results.
The Direct Torque Control of Induction Motor for Dynamic Characteristics Improvement in a Low Speed Range

Direct torque control(DTC) of AC motor has the fast torque and flux dynamic responses even though it has very simple scheme to implement. However, DTC do not show good performance at low speed range with conventional open loop stator flux observer when stator resistance varied. Therefore, authors propose a new nonlinear stator flux observer in order to estimate the stator flux of induction motor at low speed and show its simulation results.
Design of UPS system using SMB Flywheel Energy Storage System

This paper presents an off-line UPS using the high temperature superconductive magnetic bearing. FES(Flywheel Energy Storage) system has good advantages in compare with lead acid battery. So, high efficiency FES using high temperature SMB(superconductive magnetic bearing) was composed in this paper. The outer rotor type of PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) as motor/generator was used for the experiment, and square wave current and sinusoidal wave control methods was compared for high efficiency operation of motor/generator. The circuit for in phase sinusoidal wave current control with EMF in the full speed range was designed and the proposed flywheel energy storage system was applied in single phase off-line UPS system. As the stable operation characteristics of prototype system was confirmed, the its excellence as energy storage device in Off-line UPS was proved.
Torque ripple reduction in DTC of induction motor driven by 3-level inverter

A torque ripple reduction technique of direct torque control(DTC) for high power induction motors driven by 3-level inverters with the inverter switching frequency limited around 0.5-1.0kHz level is presented. It is noted that conventional DTC algorithms to reduce torque ripple are devised for applications with relatively high switching frequency above 2-3kHz. Such conventional algorithms can not accomplish satisfactory torque ripple reduction for 3-level inverter systems with lower switching frequency. A new DTC algorithm, especially for low switching frequency inverter system, illustrates relatively reduced torque ripple characteristics all over the operating speed region. Simulation and experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.
Dimming Control System Using Power Line Communication

In this paper, to control with light dimming levels of the fluorescent lamps, we have used the power line instead of the signal line to transmit the control signals. To reduce the BER(Bit Error Rate) on the power line communication with the serious noise interferences. We have adapted the FSK(Frequency Shift Keying) modulation and demodulation technique. Since the electronic ballast produced the EMI(ElctroMagnetic Interference) noise in some frequency bands, we have reduced the EMI levels in the band below -50dB. By varying the switching frequency of the ballast for the FL032/T8 from 18kHz to 25kHz, it is possible that the dimming levels are controled with the range of 5∼100%
