The Analysis of Conduction and Switching Losses in Multi-Level Inverter System

The multi-level inverter system is very promising in ac drives, when both reduced harmonic contents and high power are required. In case of multi-level inverter system, the loss of switch devices cannot be analyzed by conventional methods. The reason is that the loss of each the switch device is different from one another unlike 2-level. In this paper, a simple and accurate method of computing conduction and switching loss is proposed for multi-level inverter system. The validity of the proposed method is proven for 3-level and 4-revel diode clamped inverter system.
A New High-Efficient Energy-Recovery Circuit for Plasma Display Panel

A new high-efficient energy-recovery circuit is proposed to drive a plasma display panel (PDP) and compared with the conventional circuit. The proposed circuit uses only two inductors and no auxiliary circuit to recover the energy stored in the equivalent intrinsic capacitance of PDP. Therefore it features a simpler structure, less mass, lower cost of production, higher efficiency, and fewer power devices. The very stable and uniform light emitted from PDP proves the high quality of screen. It is suitable for wall-hanging color TVs. The proposed circuit, operating at 200kHz, is verified to be applicable on a 42-inch PDP by experimental results.
An Implementation of a Current Controlled Bi-directional Inverter with ZVT Switching

A single-phase inverter using a diode bridge-type resonant circuit to implement ZVT(Zero Voltage Transition) switching is presented. It Is shown that the ZACE(Zero Average Current Error) algorithm based Polarized ramptime current control can provide a suitable interface between DC link of diode bridge-type resonant circuit and the inverter. The current control algorithm is analyzed about how to design the circuit with auxiliary switch which can ZVT operation for the main power switch. The simulation and experimental results would be shown to verify the proposed current algorithm, because the main Power switch is turn on with ZVT and the hi-directional inverter is operated.
New Fuzzy Variable Switching Sector Technique for DTC on Induction Motor Drives

Direct Torque Control(DTC) is considered to be an useful control scheme of high performance induction motor drives because the scheme provides a quick torque response without requiring the complex field-orientation block and inner current regulation loop. Among a few drawbacks of the conventional DTC scheme, large current harmonics due to flux drooping phenomenon in a low speed range may be the major difficulty In order to remove the difficulty, a fuzzy variable switching sector scheme and its real-time implementation algorithm are proposed in this paper. A DSP based control board is designed for the Induction motor drives with the DTC scheme including the fuzzy switching sector algorithm. Simulation and experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
An Overmodulation Strategy for SVPWM Inverter Using Pole Voltage

In this paper, a novel overmodulation strategy for space-vector PWM(SVPWM) inverters to utilize dc link voltage fully Is presented. The proposed strategy uses the concept of SVPWM based on the zero sequence signal(offset voltage) injection principle. So, by modifying the pole voltage simply, the linear control of inverter output voltage over the whole overmodulation range can be achieved easily The proposed strategy is so simple that its practical implementation is easy. The validity of the proposed strategy is confirmed by the experimental results.
The Improvement of Output Voltage of UPS Using a Parallel Control Method

This paper presents a proper parallel control method using a conventional control and a repetitive control for improving the output voltage waveform of uninterruptable power supply. Although first-order prediction control method shows a good characteristics to rectifier load, it is not sufficient to reduce steady state errors generated in nonlinear loads such as rectifier loads and phase controled loads. So we also employed a repetitive control method. A repetitive control method can eliminate steady state errors in the distorted output voltage caused by cyclic loads. The presented control scheme is verified through simulation and experiment. Experimental results Implemented on a single phase PWM inverter equipped with a LC output filter with 3 kVA, 60 Hz are shown.
Series Resonant Full Bridge Inverter for Battery-fed Microwave Oven

In order to solve the problem of system efficiency reduced on account of two stage power conversion, we propose a series resonant full bridge Inverter circuit for battery-fed microwave oven. This circuit has both a compact size and a light weight comparing with the conventional HVT(High Voltage Transformer) method. Also, it may be adjusted power levels of the microwave oven by a frequency control. In this paper, operational principles are explained in detail in order to understand the circuit operation. Also, a proto-type Inverter circuit with 1[kW] Power consumption is built and tested for verifying the operation.

The Photovoltaic systems with solar cell way Provide electrical energy to the utility/consumers, which are becoming one of the promising energy substitutes. The photovoltaic system can be classified into two types : One is the stand-alone type, and the other utility interactive one. The latter can return the generated power to the utility, but the former can't. The utility interactive systems are so valuable for peak power cut in summer season. In the photovoltaic systems the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) has been studied for the increase of the generating energy of the photovoltaic system. There are many control methods of MPPT, but a new MPPT algorithm is proposed to overcome the disadvantages of the conventional ones, and as a result the proposed method enables to improve both tracking ability and generating efficiency of photo voltaic system without DC chopper.
Three-Phase Three-Wire Active Power Filter with a Detection Method of Instantaneous Positive Sequence Voltage

This paper describes the implementation of three-phase three-wire active power filter system with a instantaneous PSD for distorted and unbalanced power conditions. The positive sequence voltage of the distorted and the unbalanced power system is calculated by the Instantaneous PSD, and phase transformation matrix of the instantaneous power theory is achieved with detected positive sequence voltage. Finally, the proposed method is experimented and tested under unbalanced nonlinear load as well as unbalanced /distorted condition in power system.
Integrated Torque and Speed Control Algorithm for Motor Drive System In Continuous Strip Processing Line

A new integrated torque and speed control algorithm has been proposed for the load balancing of rollers in continuous strip processing line(CSPL). Using the proposed method, the output torque and speed can be controlled to follow the reference in spite of nonideal effects such as the speed reference error and/or the controller gain difference between rolls. This new algorithm can be easily implemented in a motor drive system of each roll as it does not require the torque feedback of the others. Through the simulation and experiments for a simple CSPL consists of four driven rolls, the load balancing performance of the proposed scheme is presented and compared with that of conventional method.
A New Two-Phase Random Pulse Position PWM Scheme

In this paper, a new two-phase space vector RPWM(Random PWM) is proposed. In the proposed RPWM, each of two-phase PWM pulses is located randomly in each switching interval. Based on the space vector modulation technique, the duty ratio of the pulses is calculated. Along with the randomization of the PWM pulses, we can obtain the effects of spread spectra of inverter output voltage, d.c link current and audible switching acoustic noise as in the case of randomly changed switching frequency. To verily the validity of the proposed two-phase RPWM scheme, the experiment based on the Cl67 micro-controller was executed. The performance of the proposed scheme was compared with traditional PWM schemes experimentally.
A Study on the Implementation of Inverter Systems for Regenerated Power Control

This paper deals with the implementation of three-phase VSI systems which can control the power regenerated from DC bus line to AC supply. The overall system consists of the line-to-line voltage and line current sensors, an actual power calculator using d-q transformation method, a complex power controller with PI control scheme, a gating signal generator for modified ｑ-conduction mode, a DPLL for frequency followup, and Power circuits. Control board is constructed by using a 32-bit DSP TMS32C32, two EFLDs , six ADCs, and a DAC. To verify the performance of the proposed system, we designed and constructed the propotype with the power rating of 5kVA at AC 220V. Experimental results show that the regenerated active power is well controlled to its command vague and the regenerated reactive power still remained at nearly zero through all operating modes.
