An Optimal Efficiency Control of Reluctance Synchronous Motor using Direct Torque Control

This paper presents an implementation of direct torque control (DTC) of Reluctance Synchronous Motor (RSM) with an efficiency optimization. The equipment circuit in Reluctance Synchronous Motor which consider with iron losses is theoretically analyzed and the optimal current ration between torque current and exiting current analytically derived to drive RSM at maximum efficiency. For RSM, torque dynamics can be maintained even with controlling the flux level because a torque is directly proportional to the stator current unlike induction motor. The experimental results are presented to validate the applicability of the proposed method. The developed control system show high efficiency features with 1.0 Kw RSM having 2.57 ratio of d/q reluctance.
Maximum Torque Control of IPMSM for Electric Vehicle Drive

Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) has become a popular choice in electric vehicle applications, due to their excellent power to weight ratio. The paper is proposed maximum torque control of IPMSM for electric vehicle drive. The control method is applicable over the entire speed range and considered the limits of the inverter's current and voltage rated value. For each control mode, a condition that determines the optimal d-axis current
for maximum torque operation is derived. The proposed control algorithm is applied to IPMSM drive system for electric vehicle drive, the operating characteristics controlled by maximum torque control are examined in detail by simulation.
Inverter Drives Adopting the Two-Phase Space Vector SRP-PWM Scheme with Fixed Switching Frequency

In this paper, Inverter drives adopting 2 phase space vector SRP-PWM (Separately Randomized Pulse Position PWM) with fixed switching frequency is proposed. The proposed 2 phase space vector SRP-PWM scheme is based on the 3 phase SRP-PWM. In the proposed SRP-PWM scheme, each of two phase pulses is located randomly in each switching interval. The experimental results show that the voltage and acoustic noise harmonics are spread to a wide band area. Also, the performance of the proposed 2 phase SRP-PWM and the conventional center aligned SVM are compared to each other. In result, the speed response is nearly similar to each other from the viewpoint of the v/f constant control.
Design and Drive Characteristics of BLDC Motor Control System for Tread Mill Application

Brushless D.C. Motor is widely used for industrial application because of high efficiency and high power density. Especially, in home appliance, BLDCM is very useful due to high control performance and low acoustic noise. In this paper, BLDCM and its controller are designed and developed for tread mill application. With the restricted stator structure, permanent magnet rotor is designed for manufacturing and cost effectiveness using CAD and FEM analysis. A ferrite magnetic material is used as a rotor magnet for the cost and temperature advantages. For a stable operation of tread mill, over current and temperature can be detected and protected. The designed BLDCM and its controller was verified by the experimental results.
A Study on the Condition Diagnosis for the Stator Coil of Traction Motor by Transient Surge

Aging and failure of motor insulation depend on the stresses imposed on it. The insulation life time depends on the severity of the stresses. The electrical aging by transient surge is very important to traction motor in EMU(electric multiple unit). This paper presents the insulation characteristics of stator coil by transient surge from inverter. There are several nondestructive tests available for checking the condition of motor insulation, the probable extent of aging, and the rate of which aging is taking place. So the insulation characteristics of stator coil were each analyzed by measurement of leakage current, dielectric loss(tan
), capacitance, polarization index(PI) and partial discharge. The method of diagnosis is able to analyze the aging condition and predict the life of the traction motor in EMU.
Development of Internet Web-Based UPS Remote Control System

This paper aims at developing remote control system to control and monitor distributed various devices such as UPS through internet. TCP/IP(Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) and UPS operated in a row are adopted for the network management protocol and the application device, respectively. For controlling and monitoring distributed devices in realtime, java-environment software is constructed. Also, HelloDevice, general-use interface controller between network device and applied device is proposed. Finally, serial communication such as RS-232C is used between controller and applied device.
A Development of the Solar Position Tracker on the Program Method for the Small Typed Stand-alone PV System Commercialization

The energy of PV system is different as the elevation and aximuth of the sun. This paper deals with the economical position tracking system development for the stand alone PV system. We have made more economical solar position tracking system which is used a tracking program than other similar systems. It is applied to the solar lighting lamp. We have made a comparative study of the energy amount between the fixed type and the tracking type during some period. The improved efficiency of the system is about 86 %.
Control Algorithm for Wind Turbine Simulator with Variable Inertia Emulation

A wind turbine simulator is developed for the emulation of variable input torque from the wind energy without actual rotor blades using motor-generator set. The torque command of dc motor is calculated from the characteristic equation of rotor blade during the change of wind speed. Especially the proposed control algorithm takes into account the fact that the moment of inertia of blade is much larger than that of driving motor. If you select the desired value of inertia, the stored/restored energy of the inertia during acceleration/deceleration can be compensated effectively resulting the only net torque is delivered to the generator. The simulator set-up has been designed and implemented using a do motor and drive. Feasibility of the proposed algorithm is verified by computer simulations and experiments.
Analysis of Capacitor Voltage and Boost Vector in Neutral-Point-Clamped and H-Bridge Converter

Multi-level converter that is high-capacity electric power conversion system is used widely to electric motor drive system and FATCs(Flexible AC Transmission Systems). H-Bridge converter has been prevalently applied to shunt-type system because it can be easily expanded to the multi-level. In steady states, converter is normally operated in the range of 0.7∼0.8 of modulation Index. Even though zero vectors are not imposed to high modulation index, DC-Link voltage Is constant. It means that converter has another boost vector except for zero vectors among several vectors in 3-level converter. This paper has examined the principle of boost vector and investigated the difference between another boost vector and zero vectors in 3-level converter. In addition, this paper has analysed and compared the charging currents and the capacitor voltages of two topologies. The currents and voltages are related to reference voltage. Therefore, it proposed the calculation method for the voltage ripple and the charging current of each capacitor and compared various DC-Link voltage control methods through the simulation.
Current Limit Control for a Four-quadrant Operation of SRM Drive

Switched reluctance machine has much attention as a traction drive because of high efficiency, high power and DC series torque characteristics. But the motor has to have a regenerative mode when it is adopted in electric vehicle and current divergence during the regeneration makes difficulties in the control. This paper proposes a reference current limitation strategy for a stable regeneration based on simulations and experimented tests. The motor is operated with conventional current limit and switching angle control method in motoring mode. Simulations and experiments are excuted to verify the feasibility of the proposed method.
The Measurement of 3-Phase Current with Single Current Sensor and the Compensation of Voltage Distortion in Carrier-Based PWM Technique

Most of the three phase inverters for adjustable speed drive of AC machines are equipped with two or three current sensors for measurement of three phase current. One method to reduce the number of current sensors is that single current sensor measures the DC link current, then three phase current is reconstructed using the measured value and the switching status. To improve the measurement accuracy, switching state should be maintained for more than minimum switching time. Many papers have been published, which focused on the readjustment of pulse width and compensation of voltage distortion. Those methods are suitable for space vector modulation. But there are some difficulties in applying these methods to carrier-based PWM which is widely used in industry. In this paper, new current measurement method and voltage compensation method are proposed which are suitable for carrier-based PWM, then, the validity of proposed method is confirmed through experiment.
