Horizontal-Axis Wind Turbine System Modeling using Multi-body Dynamics

In this paper, an efficient modeling method of Horizontal-Axis Wind Turbine(HAWT) system is proposed. This method Is based on representing a HAWT system as a multi-body system with several rigid bodies i.e. rotor blade, low/high speed shaft, gear system, md generator. Also, simulation software WINSIM is developed to evaluate performance of wind turbine system. Simulation results show that the proposed modeling method and simulation software are efficient and reliable.
Improved Full Wave Mode ZVT PWM DC-DC Converters

In this thesis, improved full wave mode ZVT(Zero-Voltage-Transition) PMW DC-DC Converters are presented to maximize the regeneration ratio of resonant energy by only putting an additional diode In series with the auxiliary switch. The operation of the auxiliary switch in a half wave mode makes it possible soft switching operation of all switches including the auxiliary switch whereas it is turned off with hard switching in conventional converter. The increase of the regeneration ratio to resonant energy results in low commutation losses and minimum voltage and current stresses. The operation principles of the improved ZVT PWM DC-DC Converters are theoretically analyzed using the boost converter topology as an example. Both theoretical analysis and experimental results verify the validity of the PWM boost converter topology with the improved full wave mode ZVT PWM converters.
Development of the Starting Algorithm and Starter for Turbo Generator

The starter of the turbo generator is composed of a high speed generator(HSG), an inverter and a boost converter instead of a gearbox, a DC motor and a low-voltage battery in the starter of the turbo shaft generation system. Because turbo generator is needed a high speed motoring at start-up, high speed generator has a low leakage inductance and inverter need a high DC link voltage. In this study, for developing the stater of a turbo generator, a boost converter with a high capacity was developed to convert high voltage from a low battery voltage. And for controlling a high frequency current to be injected to a motor winding with a low leakage inductance, the inverter with a high precision and a high speed operation was designed and for a stable ignition, the starting algorithm of a turbo generator was proposed. Turbo generator was started by the starter developed to verify the performances.
Design and Drive Performance of 6/4 SRM for Pallet Truck Application

This paper is to research about design and drive system of a switched reluctance motor for a pallet truck application. SRM is suitable for a pulse type source and is researched for home and industrial applications owing to the advance of power electronics technology. An SRM for a pallet truck drive is developed and tested. The drive system has to operate with low voltage and high current. The small size, robustness and high efficiency make it possible to replace with DC motor which is used in a pallet truck conventionally. Test results show that pallet truck with SRM has better drive characteristics than that of the DC motor performance.
An Optical Analog Encoder for Precise Angle Control of SRM

In a switched reluctance motor drive, it is important to synchronize the stator phase excitation with the rotor position, Therefore the position of rotor is an essential information. Although high resolution optical encoder/resolvers we used to provide a precise position information, these sensors are expensive. And switching angles synchronizing using sensorless technique has some problems like a reliability and fluctuating of the preset value in the high-speed region, which is caused by the sampling period of the microprocessor. In this paper, a low cost analog encoder suitable for practical applications is proposed. And the control algorithm to generate switching signals using a simple digital logic is presented. The validity of the proposed analog encoder with a proper logic controller is verified from the experiments.
Development of a Large Scale STATCOM Using Double-Connected Multistep Inverter

In this paper a large scale STATCOM using double-connected multi-step inverter is proposed and operating principle along with control method is detailed. A simple auxiliary circuit including an interphase transformer is employed to improve output voltage waveform of 12-step into 36-step. The proposed scheme could be a cost effective approach in high power applications such as 10MVar to 30MVar STATCOM. Experimental results from a 2KVA laboratory prototype show validity of the proposed method.
Precision Position Control of PMSM using Load Torque Observer and Parameter Compensator

This paper presents a new method of external load disturbance compensation using deadbeat load torque observer and gain compensation by parameter estimator. The response of the permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) follows the nominal plant. The load torque compensation method is composed of a deadbeat observer. To reduce the noise effect, the post-filter implemented by moving average(MA) process is adopted. The parameter compensator with recursive least square method(RLSM) parameter estimator is suggested to make the new system work as same as the name plate system which in used to take gains. The proposed estimator is combined with a high performance load torque observer to resolve the problems. As a result, the proposed control system has a robust and precise system against the load torque and the parameter variation. A stability and usefulness are verified by computer simulation and experiment.
A Study on Driving Dual Inverters with Single Processor Using Controller Area Network

Two processors are generally used to drive the power circuits for controlling the dual motors independently. In this paper, we propose the new control scheme to drive dual inverters using only one controller with the aid of CAN network. The proposed system is very useful compared to conventional techniques especially in case of controlling the combined dual motors because the control algorithm can be implemented by the software program only without any additional processor or hardware interfacing. The proposed system is implemented and verified experimentally.
A Study on the SHE-Based Harmonic Reduction of DC Power Regenerating Systems

1. In SHE(Selected Harmonic Elimination) method proposed in this paper, however, the l1th and 13th harmonics are additionally eliminated. And moreover 23rd harmonics, lowest order harmonics among the remaining harmonics, is eliminated by 23rd AC filter furnished at the output terminals of regenerating systems. To verify the validity of the proposed SHE-based harmonic reduction technique, computer simulations are carried out. Simulation results show that the THDs of output voltages are lower than that of the MAC method and the THDs in the control range are in the range of 0.53-0.68 percents.
Single stage Boost Input Type Resonant AC/DC Converter

This paper proposes the novel boost input type resonant AC/DC converter. Since the proposed converter is single stage topology, it controls both of the input power factor and the output voltage at the same time, and resultingly obtains the high power factor of 99% with average current mode pulse width modulation. Especially, to accomplish the zero voltage switching, the resonance between the leakage inductance and external capacitor is used. For the theoretical consideration of the proposed converter, the six operation modes divided by means of current path are discussed, and the resonance characteristics in steady state are analyzed. To verify the validity of the proposed converter, a 200[W](
prototype converter was built and its experimental results were presented in this paper.
Maximum Output Power Control for Stand-Alone Wind Power Generation System Using Cage-Type Induction Generators

In this paper, a maximum output power control of stand-alone cage-type induction generator systems for wind power generation is proposed. The induction generator is operated in a vector-controlled mode, which is excited with d-axis current and of which torque is controlled with q-axis current. The generator speed is controlled by this torque, along which speed the generator produces the maximum output power. The generated power charges the battery bank for energy storage through an ac/dc PWM converter. The proposed scheme has been verified for the wind turbine simulator system which consists of M-G set.
EMI Characteristics and filter design of AC Drives for Home Appliances

This paper describes a design method of electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter for pulse-width modulation (PWM) inverter-fed AC drives used for home appliances such as washing machine and air conditioner. The generating and coupling mechanisms of the conducted EMI for AC drives are first investigated. The design procedure of the EMI filter based on the EMI separation principle is then presented. Experiments we carried out for the PWM inverter-fed induction motor drive system and it is shown that the results satisfy the EN55014 EMI regulation.
One-Chip and Control System Design of Low Cost for Micro-stepping Drive of 5-Phase Stepping Motor

Micro stepping method is adopted in order to eliminate effectively the resonant phenomena and to increase the positional resolution.
