Effects of Foliar Spray of Kinetin(6-Furfurylaminopurine) on the Growth of Mulberry Tree and the Metabolic Activities in the Leaves
Journal of Sericultural and Entomological Science, volume 26, issue 1, 1984, Pages 1~20
Effects of Foliar spray of Kinetin on the growth and metabolism of mulberry tree was investigated in this studies. The results are summarized as follows; 1. Appropriate level of Kinetin for the optimal growth of mulberry tree was 100ppm. 2. In the non-fertilizer, N, P, K, and N+P+K treated plots supplemented with Kinetin, the growth of mulberry tree was generally promoted, especially in the roots, in comparison to non-supplemented plots. The effect was notably outstanding in the N, and N+P+K treated plots. 3. The mechanism by which the growth of root is stimulated was fundamentally attributed to the hypertrophy of unit cells. 4. The chlorophyll contents of the leaves in the Kinetin supplemented plots were higher than that of the non-supplemented, especially in the N, and N+P+K treated ones. 5. Likewise, total sugar contents of Kinetin supplemented plots were higher than that of the non-supplemented. Particularly the N+P+K treated plots showed higher level of sugar contents. In other plots, there were no significant differences in the level of sugar contents. 6. The activity of GOT and GPT was higher in the Kinetin supplemented plots, particularly in the N, and N+P+K treateated. 7. The contents of ascorbic acid were increased in plots with kinetin supplement in the order of N+P+K>potassium>Nitrogen>phosphorus
non-fertilizer. 8. Difference between Kinetin treatment and non-treatment was not recognized in the contents of inorganic and organic compounds.
Studies on Glutamic Acid Fermentation Residue Fertilizer I.Appliation rate of fertilizers and soil chemical properties of mulberry fields used glutemic Acid Fermention Residue Fertilizer
Journal of Sericultural and Entomological Science, volume 26, issue 1, 1984, Pages 21~24
The survey and soil analysis were carried to research the problems on mulberry fields applied glutamic acid fermentation residue fertilizer (GAFRF). Mulberry farmers of 364 from 110 si or Gun were chosen at random. The results were as follows; 1. Application rate of three elements applied on mulberry field was 25.8-12.8-16 in non-FAFRF using farmers, whereas 9.8-4.5-5.5kg/10a in GAFRF using farmers. 2. Application rate of organic matter applied on mulberry was 1158kg in non-GAFRF using farmers, whereas 329kg/10a in GAFRF using farmers. 3. Farmers of 53% using FAFRF did not applied three elements, 74% of them organic matter and 50% of them both of three elements and organic matter. These figures increased proportionally with application period of GAFRF. 4. The content of organic matter, availeble P2O5, K, Ca, Mg and pH in soil of appling GAFRF farmers was somewhat lower than in soil of non-appling GAFRF farmers.

Since 1966, practical use of active heavy analogs of the hormones has been also worked out as an insecticide and brought the features of it to the light as cocoon producer. On the other hand, it is expected to afford the increase of silk productivity resulted from control of the fifth larval period by delaying normal development. With these regards, some of analogs have been tried to apply practically to the silkworm for an increase of cocoon productivity. One of the synthesized juvenile hormone available is "Manina". And it is presently used for the increase of silk productivity in Korea. For the practical use, it is very essential the varietal differences in the increase of silk productivity by topical application was tested and the obtained results are summarized as follows. 1. It was evident that the fifty larval period was extended by topical application after 48 hrs. of the last ecdysis, ranging from 8 hrs. to one day, as compared to the control. 2. In pupal rates, there is no significance between control and treatments. It proved that there was no toxicity to silkworm by topical application in general, except jam 120. With regards to an increase of cocoon yield in Japanese, it was resulted from 17∼24% of cocoon yield from 10,000 larvae, as compared to that of control. In case of Chinese, the incrasing rates were varied from 15∼26% of cocoon yield, 17.8kg of it with 26% increase for Jam 122 and 16.7kg of it with 25% increase for Jam 118. In case of all hybrids, an increase of the cocoon yield took places from 20% to 31% and the weight of cocoon layer for the Japanese increased by 6 to 14%, those for the Chinese by 4 to 7% and those for the hybrids ranged from 21 to 29% increase. 3. It was recognized that the hybrid vigor rate took places with the hybrids between high responsing parents to juvenile hormones.
An Endocrinological Study on Metamorphosis of the Midgut in Silkworm, Bombyx mori
Journal of Sericultural and Entomological Science, volume 26, issue 1, 1984, Pages 30~34
In order to investigate an endocrinological effect on metamorposis of the midgut in silkworm, Bombyx mori, 20-hydroxyecdysone and rude extract of brain (PTTH) were injected into pupal isolated abdomens, devoid of prothoracic glands and also in the brainless diapausing pupae with the prothoracic glands (so-called dauer pupae). When ecdysone was assayed abdomens, drastic morphological changes occurred in the midgut. The wet weights of midguts were found decrease as like the normal pupae at metamorphosis. Proteineous changes in epithelial midgut were also observed; pupal specific proteins (PSP) vanished while the adult proteins were newly synthesized. Similar results were also found in the changes of protein in the midgut of dauer pupae by injecting ecdysone and PTTH.

Journal of Sericultural and Entomological Science, volume 26, issue 1, 1984, Pages 35~51
In order to know the similarity of the electrophoretic protein patterns, distributional aspects of the frequency in each protein band, differences of protein patterns between female and male, and the number of the total protein bands of each variety in the haemolymph of the silkworm pupae according to their geographical origin, the silkworm varieties, and both the sexes, variable electrophoretic protein patterns were observed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, using the silkworm strains which have been reared in the sericultural experiment station. 1. The total number of electrophoretic protein bands classified were twenty-eight, and nearly fourteen bands were shown by each variety on an average. 2. According to their geographical origin, the mean values of the similarity were 20.0%, 28.3% and 14.3% in Japanese, Chinese and European respectively, and the highest similarity was observed between Chinese varieties. 3. The similarity of 129 varieties were tested and it was 22.5%, 23.5% in female and male respectively. 4. The electrophoretic protein patterns in 129 varieties were tested and variation was found in 109 patterns in female and 112 in male. 5. The frequency of the each specified protein band in female and male having variation in protein bands in each variety was found averagely 6.6%. 6. The distribution frequency of the classified 28 protein bands in both the sexes within each geographical origin was variable from 0% to 100%. 7. Among the classified 28 protein bands, HP 11 protein band was found common in all the varieties tested. 8. HP 3 and HP 4 protein bands in female showed high density in electropherograms than in male.
