Sulfonation of Polyamide Containing Carboxylic Acid

Polyamide containing carboxylic acid was sulfonated with chlorosulfonic acid in dichloroethane under various conditions. The impact of the sulfonating agent concentration, the reaction temperature, and the reaction time on the ion exchange capacity was investigated. The mechanical and thermal properties, the contact angle, and the change of poly-dispersity were calculated for studying change of their properties. The reactions were effective, when the temperature was below
and the concentration of chlorosulfonic acid was below 0.05 mol. The value of ion exchange capacity was increased with reaction time. Thermal and mechanical properties were nearly unchanged according to the degree of sulfonation, but the contact angle was increased with increasing the value of ion exchange capacity.
Application for Dietary Resources by Silk Protein

Recently, B. mori proteins such as silk fibroin and silk sericin have been found to have a water-holding capacity, anti hydrogen peroxide toxicity, antioxidant activity and tyrosinase-inhibitory activity (Yeo 2006, Kurioka 1999 & 2004), implying its potential usefulness of the application for cosmetic and functional food(Yamazaki 1999 & Une 2000). We are tried to application for dietary resources of B. mori silk fibroin and sericin that were prepared to some of different molecular cutting these resources by preparative recycling HPLC system. In our studies with rats have demonstrated that consumption of these silk proteins are being prevents constipation effect and it is maybe enhances intestinal absorption of water and dietary effects. These some of useful results further suggest a usefulness of sericin as dietary resources for health.
Characterization of Hydrolyzed Antheraea yamamai Silk Fibroin Powder

Antheraea yamamai silk fibroin powder was prepared by treatment with HCl. The prepared A. yamamai fibroin hydrolysate was characterized by gel filtration chromatography, amino acid analysis, X-ray diffractometry, circular dichroism analysis, differential thermal analysis, and thermogravimetry. The average molecular weight of A. yamamai powder was about 430 and the major amino acids composed of the powder were Ala and Ser. According to XRD analysis, A. yamamai silk powder showed sharp diffraction peaks at
. CD spectrum showed a peak around 220 nm and a should 215 nm, assigned to
structure, respectively. DSC and TGA showed that the maximum degradation temperature of powder was around
. Moreover, no harmful heavy metal was contained in the A. yamamai silk fibroin hydrolysate.
Rearing and Innoculation Condition of Nd hybrid Silkworms for Paecilomyces tenuipes Production

To shorten the labor cost for the production of the fungus, Paecilomyces tenuipies, uncocooning mutant hybrid silkworms as a host was used. The yield of P. tenuipies was reduced when Nd (uncocooning mutant) was used as a host because Nd was smaller than the hybrid Baegokjam that has been used as a typical host. To increase the host weight, Nd was crossed with Jam l23 or Jam 124, and resulted in not only greater weighter but also higher yield of P. tenuipies. The optimum temperature for rearing Nd hybrid silkworms was
higher than standard temperature of rearing silkworms to increase the naked pupation rate. The optimum time for the infection of P. tenuipies was 12 h at
and 95% R.H., when
of P. tenuipies were sprayed on the surface of the silkworm. The conditions were applicable to both spring-rearing and autumn-rearing.
Study on the Unsaturated Fatty Acids in the Pupae of Silkworm, Bombyx mori

Purification method of unsaturated fatty acid from silkworm pupa has been set up. Over 70% of total fatty acid was unsaturated form. Unsaturated,fatty acid from silkworm pupa improved hyperlipemia in the induced hyperlipemial mice, increased the production of collagen, inhibited the activity of collagenase, and cured the dryness-induced skin very quickly.

] inhibitors slows the velocity of the uptake of monosaccharides in the small intestine by retarding the speed of degradation of disaccharides to monosaccharides, which made it possible to develop
inhibitors as the antihyperglycemic ('antihyperglycemic' means 'blood-glucose-level-lowering') reagent for the diabetic patients such as acarbose and miglitol. Twenty kinds of
inhibitors have been reported to exist in mulberry, Morns alba, and some of them are also found in the silkworm, Bombyx mari, as the result of its daily feeding of mulberry leaves as the sole diet. 1-Deoxynojirimycin (DNJ), one of the most potent
inhibitor, is the most abundant among polyhydroxylated alkaloids with
inhibiting activity in both M alba and B. mari, therefore considered the antihyperglycemic criterion of the mulberry- or silkworm-based neutroceutical products. DNJ is thought to be accumulated in the body of silkworm because the its concentration in the silkworm body is two to three times as much as that in the mulberry leaves. Eighteen silkworm F1 varieties have been recommended for industrial rearing in Korea by some standards such as pathological strength. DNJ concentration in 18 recommendedwere measured at 3rd day in the 5th instar after lyophilization to determine the varieties that accumulates DNJ in its body most. GeumOk-Jam was the highest in the DNJ concentration of 5.45 mg/gDW among the recommended F1 varieties.
Development of Collecting System of Silkworm Excreta Using a Devised Equipment

These experiments were executed to develop an effective rearing or collecting equipments for silkworm excreta. The rearing devices were an assembly one equipped with wheels, and its weight was reduced so that the convenience was improved. In the amount of collecting silkworm according to the size of mess, the size of 7.0*7.0 mm had 36% more than the size of 5.0*5.0 mm. However, the falling silkworm had a little (0.3%) occurred for the period of rearing the 5day-silkworm. The amount of collecting silkworm excreta using the devised collecting equipment was 19.7 kg per box at the two-floored rearing boxes. In the budget of labor hour, the devised collecting equipment have reduced the labor of traditional handy work to 65% and the productivity of labor (kg/hour) was increased to 55%. The cost of production was also decreased to 35.9%.
