DOI : 10.13067/JKIECS.2013.8.5.659
It is necessary to develop an efficient MVD coding scheme to improve the video coding performance. In this paper, combined codeword and joint codeword are suggested from analyses on statistical distributions of MVD according to the quantization steps and the conventional codeword structure. Based on these codewords, we propose new MVD coding scheme where one of the suggested codewords is employed to encode the MVD according to the coding environment. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme enhances the coding performance without the quality degradation.

Lee, Chang-Young ;
The Journal of the Korea institute of electronic communication sciences, volume 8, issue 5, 2013, Pages 665~670
DOI : 10.13067/JKIECS.2013.8.5.665
In this paper, we propose a new method of speech detection and phoneme segmentation. We investigate the effect of applying preemphasis FIR filtering on the speech signal before the usual speech detection that utilizes the energy profile for discriminating signals from background noise. By this procedure, only the speech section of low energy and frequency becomes distinct in energy profile. It is verified experimentally that the silence/speech boundary becomes sharper by applying the filtering compared to the conventional method. By applications of this procedure, phoneme segmentation is also found to be much facilitated.

The Journal of the Korea institute of electronic communication sciences, volume 8, issue 5, 2013, Pages 703~711
DOI : 10.13067/JKIECS.2013.8.5.703
The effort for identifying personal information for example one's personality, based on one's handwriting has been continued in foreign countries, however, there is no research on the graphology for Korean in Korea. In the area of handwriting analysis, of course, they have made attempts to identifying people depended on expert's individual ability or judgment. For these reasons, the academic approach is needed for the graphology for Korean. In this thesis, we performed the frequency analysis, test of difference, cross tabulation analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis and logistic regression analysis by using the data on the test of personality diagnosis based on 5 factors method and writing habits such as the size and slope of letters for 339 adults. It can be shown that the 5 factors method has high consistency and reliability, so we accept these 5 factors as the personalities. In cross tabulation analysis, it is found that there is significant relationship between sex and the size of letters, hometown and the margin, job and habit. The correlations between 5 factors are very high and we can find the useful relationships between 5 factors and writing habit through regression analysis and correlation analysis. It is difficult and impossible to compare the Graphology between English and Korean because there are various interpretations and structures of Korean that is much different from those of English. But it is very important to try to test and analyze the Graphology in Korean to found the basic theories at the present stage when there is no research on the graphology for Korean.

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) based IEEE 802.11 a/g systems which are widely used in wireless LAN carry out channel estimation in one time per packet since the systems use only preamble. Whereas, midamble based channel estimation supports continuous channel estimation by tracking the channel state information periodically. Using IEEE 802.11p Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) system, we analyze the performance of the proposed system via practical measurements. Based on these results, practical issues on midamble based channel estimation are investigated.
