The effect of shaded apodizer on the read-out signal in an optical dise system

To investigate the effect of a shaded apodizer on the read-out signal in an optical disc system, we consider the is apodizer in which the amplitude transmittance decreases gradually from the center of pupil toward its edge and the iH apodizer in which the amplitude transmittance increases gradually from the center of pupil toward its edge, using the scalar diffraction theory. In this paper, we have studied on the effects of annular and quadrupole illuminations by changing their conditions for enhancing the pattern resolution and depth of focus (OaF) in the optical lithography system using KrF Eximer laser 0.248
m and 0.65 NA. As a result, it is revealed that each illumination condition to optimize the resolution and the OaF for the mask containing the assistance pattern is different under the annular illumination. And in case of quadrupole illumination, we could ascertain that the resolution and the OaF would be enhanced through changing the arrangement of each pole from the conventional X type (45 degrees) to some proper type according to the main pattern direction. ction.
Design and fabrication of a zoom optics having 20 magnification range for mid-IR(3.7-4.8

This paper describes the design and fabrication of mid-IR
zoom optics which is used for FUR (Forward Looking Infra-Red) system with 320
240 focal plane arrays. The zoom optics has 20 magnification range and maximun 40
of super wide field of view. The locus of zoom is almost linear, which gives easy access of mechanical and electro-mechanical design. The on-axis MTF of zoom optics has been measured and it shows diffraction limited optical performance. For example, it gives 0.692 at 24 cycles/mm at highest magnification, and 7.6 cycles/mradof resolving power is achieved with the operation of attached micro-scanning system.system.

Holographic optical memory by phase-modulation multiplexing

We propose a new scheme of hologram multiplexing that can improve the crosstalk noise in the conventional phase-code multiplexing. Our method is based on the idea that the separate holograms to be stored in a certain region of the photorefractve material should have relative phase other than

The experimental result shows that the crosstalk noise in the restored holograms is reduced much in our method. We also computer simulate the hologram multiplexing and compare the result with the experimental data.l data.
Ultrafast carrier dynamics study of LT-GaAs semiconductors by using time-resolved photoreflectance spectroscopy

Ultrafast carrier dynamics of LT-GaAs semiconductors was investigated by using time-resolved photoreflectance spectroscopy. We can see that decay dynamics of photoreflectance generated by carriers depends strongly on the excitation wavelength due to the structure distortion of LT-GaAs semiconductors. Ultrafast trapping of excited carriers into deep trap states gives rise to transient photoreflectance decays with a lifetime shorter than 1 ps. Also, the long-lived photoreflectance is attributed to the carriers trapped deeply at point defects. fects.
Soliton coupler using a bent nonlinear waveguide

In this paper, we studied the characteristics of a soliton coupler using a bent nonlinear waveguide. The bent soliton coupler has very ,harp switching characteristic like the conventional soliton coupler due to the threshold effect of soliton emi,sion from the nonlinear waveguide. By using the bent structure, we can reduce the threshold power for the soliton emission. We consider the saturation effect of nonlinearity and the loss in the medium for more accurate and practical numerical analysis in wave propagation through the bent soliton coupler. The simulation results show that the consideration of the saturation effect and the ]os~ may be very important in the analyses and design of the nonlinear waveguide devices. The bent structure is useful for the emission of the spatial soliton with the low threshold power, when we consider the saturation and the loss effect. ffect.
Electrically controllable polymer-dispersed liquid crystal

We report on the results of holographic transmission grating that can be controlled by the applied AC electric field. We have fabricated a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal material that composed of multifunctional acrylate monomer blended with the liquid crystal mixture E7. To investigate an electro-optic properties of fabricated HPDLC, diffraction efficienties (DE) are measured as a fuction of applied electric field and density of liquid crystal. Maximum DE of about 70% is obtained about 30 wt% of LC concentration at a zero field. We have also shown that optical image was recorded in the tllm, and then the reconstructive image was switchable with the applied electric fields. ields.
Calculation and measurement of optical coupling coefficient for bi-directional tancceiver module

We designed and fabricated a bidirectional optical transceiver module for low cost access network. An integrated chip forming a pin-PD on an 1.3 urn FP-LD was assembled by flip-chip bonding on a Si optical bench, a single mode fiber with an angled end facet was aligned passively with the integrated chip on V-groove of Si-optical bench. Gaussian beam theory was applied to evaluate the coupling coefficients as a function of some parameters such as alignment distance, angle of fiber end facet, vertical alignment error. The theory is also used to search the bottle-neck between transmittance and receiving coupling efficiency in the bi-directional optical system. Tn this paper, we confirmed that reduction of coupling efficiency by the vertical alignment error between laser beam and fiber core axis can be compensated by controlling the fiber facet angle. In the fabrication of sub-module, a'||'&'||' we made such that the fiber facet have a corn shape with an angled facet only core part, the reflection of transmitted laser beam from the fiber facet could be minimized below -35 dE in alignment distance of 2: 30 /J.m. In the same condition, transmitted output power of -12.1 dEm and responsivity of 0.2. AIW were obtained.
10 GHz Phase look loop using a four-wave-mixing signal in semiconductor optical amplifier

A 10 GHz timing extracted signal which is phase-locked to a 10 Gbit/s mode-locked optical fiber laser pulse train is obtained using a tour-wave-mixing signal in semiconductor optical amplifier. The phase-locked loop wm, demonstrated ~Llccessful1y over 8 hours and found to have the lock-in frequency range of 30 KHz. 0 KHz.
Continuous variation characteristics of pulse width in short cavity dye laser

Quenched dye laser (QDL), which operates with relaxation oscillation mode, is one of the most powerful source for ultra-short pulse light. In this paper, the output characteristics of QDL is theoretically analyzed by a computer simulation. The QDL is assumed that the laser dye is Rhodamine 6G which has the oscillation wavelength of 590 nrn and that the active length is 5 mm and that the pumping source is XeCllaser which has oscillation wavelength of 308 nm. It is revealed ilim the pulse width of short cavity dye laser reduced less than 1/100 than pumping pulse duration and has the linear relationship with spatial width of pumping beam approximately. In addition, it is revealed that the short cavity dye laser is a powerful candidate of pulse width variable light source, which is adjusted by spatial size of pumping beam_ beam_
The mesa formation and fabrication of planar buried heterostructure laser diode by using meltback method

In thi, study, we made experiments to fonn a mesa shape by meltback method with various concentration of solutions and found that unsaturated (20%) InGaAsP (1.55 !-tm) solution at a growth temperature was the most suitable for the formation of a mesa ,hape on the wafer which has an InGaAsP active layer and an InP cap layer on an n-InP substrate. It was difficult to form a proper mesa shape for the fabrication of PBH-LDs only by the meltback method; therefore, we fabricated PBH-LDs by forming the mesa shape with the meltback method after wet etching and by growing a current-blocking layer successively. Effective measurement of high facet reflectivity using the variation longitudinal modes spacing of semiconductor external cavity ring lasers

It is observed that the mode spacing of an cxternal cavity semiconducror laser can be altered dramatically by the insertion of an intracavity etalon. 111e mode spacing is decreased as a function of etalon's reflectivity and this effect is quantitatively explained by an analysis of resonant modes. We abo show that this effect provides a precise and convenient alternative for determining the coating reflectivity of a high reflectivity etalon. talon.
