One dimensional inhomogeneous aperture modulation effects on the MTF of optical system II

One dimensional inhomogeneous aperture modulation effects on the MTF of optical system was investigated. The lens under test was a doublet made in Korea. It has 10 mm effective diameter, 87.8 mm effective focal length. The ray-fans and spot diagrams were calculated and presented on the picture for on-axis and off-axis (field of view,
). Aperture modulation was carried out by positioning a aperture modulator close contacter with the lens under test. We bought two modulators from Edmud Company in U.S.A. One was linear type and the other was stepped type. The MTFs were measured on the best of focus for each modulated aperture where the MTF has the highest value for 60 line/mm and were compared with one another. For on-axis, the MTFs of some modulated apertures had higher values than the MTF of unmodulated aperture in the high frequency region. In the case of off-axis, at the field of view
, the MTF values of some modulated aperture are improved prominently and some other one are disimproved. At the field of view
most of the MTFs of modulated apertures had lower values than the MTF of unmodulated aperture except the MTFs of linear and inverse linear type aperture in the high frequency area. But the values of MTFs in high frequency region were too low for actual use.
Optical Design of Cemented Doublets by Using Equivalent Lens System

The equivalent lens conversion technique is applied to design achromatic doublet and aplanatic doublet. A thin doublet which has zero axial thicknesses, are corrected for the third order aberrations at first, and the thin doublet is converted into thick lens system by using the equivalent lens conversion. Two types of cemented doublets, the Fraunhofer type and the Steinheil type, are designed by using a crown glass BaK-2 and a flint glass SF-2. In the thin doublet design, there are two achromatic solutions and a aplanatic solution for the both types.
Optical design of a projection lens for high definition digital TV

In the rear projection TV, the optimal system configurations of optical parts are presented, which are focused on competitive price and performances. From the initial design with five Seidel aberrations free, aspherization of the plastic lenses, and optimization with tolerances, a new lens consisting of two plastic and one glass lenses was designed. It is able to be used on current broadcast standard NTSC and digital TV in common. The developed CRT-lens assembly could display the 40 to 50 inch image and its resolution is more than 800 TV-lines.
Interdiffusion effects in optical multilayer thinfilms

We have studied the optical effects in dielectric multilayer due to the interdiffusion formed during the deposition process. We suggest a numerical method to calculate the optical properties of periodical multilayer thin-films with gradient-index profiles. Using this method the spectral transmittance and reflectance were obtained for Fabry-Perot type filters, broad-band total reflectors and antireflection filters with interdiffusion layers. Interdiffusion reduced the spectral band width of high reflectance in total reflectors, and deteriorated the characteristics of multilayer AR-coatings leading to a large variation of reflectance if the number of the layers is large.
The interface effects on polarization dependence of waveguide and the design of polarization independent 2 dimensional waveguide on InP for arrayed waveguide grating

We have studied the effects of interface on polarization dependence of waveguide and designed the polarization independent 2-dimensional waveguides on InP for arrayed waveguide grating. To figure out the effects of interface on polarization dependence, we have solved the 1-dimensional wave equation using a transfer matrix method. It is shown that the birefringence becomes stronger as the number of interfaces increases. In order to design polarization independent 2-dimensional waveguides, we have used effective index method. The structures considered are ridge type, raised strip type, and buried type waveguide. In the cases of ridge and raised strip type, conventional effective index method was used. In the case of buried type corrected effective index method was used. We have determined the height and width of waveguides such that the waveguides become polarization independent.
Dynamic characteristics and diffraction efficiency of reflection grating in photopolymer

The characteristics and structures of photopolymer are analyzed in this paper, which recently have various applications in optical information processing and optical memory, Especially, Du Pont's photopolymer OmniDex 706 reflection film is used in many experiments of different exposures and incident angles, and analyzed by the diffraction pattern generated by glass plate's reflection beam. With the dark reaction of the monomer in photopolymerization, dynamic parameters are considered due to the variation of exposure time and diffusion time delay after exposure. The performance of diffraction efficiency is improved by 10%, when an exposure time is 6.25 sec, and a diffusion time delay is 2 minute.
Optical implementation of the Hough transform for both line and circle parameterization by use of rotationally multiplexed holograms

We explain that a holographic filter of the generalized Hough transform can be easily obtained by use of rotational multiplexing in hologram recording. To show the feasibility of our approach experimentally, we recorded the Hough transform filter of both line and circle parameterization by combined use of rotational and angle multiplexing. Experimental results on the Hough transform for a few input patterns are presented.
Detection of Internal defects of a laminated plate using holographic interferometry

A laminated plate which contains debonds is visualized and evaluated nondestructively by holographic interferometry. Characteristic vibration frequencies of the plate are found in which debonds appear as anomalies in the fringe pattern for realtime holography. A set of time-average holograms for the vibrating plate are generated at various positions using a piezoelectric transducer, and the anomalies in each reconstructed hologram are enhanced through image processing. The images are added together to show the distribution of debonds for the whole area of the test plate.
Proposan and Analysis of DR(Distributed Reflector)-LD/EA(electro-absorption)Modulator Integrated Device

DR-LD(distrbuted reflector laser diode) integrated EA-MOD (electro-absorption modulator) as light source, is proposed to improve the device yield and its operational performances. This device can be easily fabricated by the selective MOVPE technique and its fabrication processes are almost the same as the reported 1.55
DFB-LD(distributed feedback laser diode) integrated EA-MOD except the asymmetric gratings. The static and dynamic properties are investigated simultaneously by solving the transfer matrix method for light propagation, the time-dependent rate equation for carrier change and schr
dinger equation for QCSE (Quantum-Confined Stark Effect). The performances of the proposed device such as output power, chirp, and extinction ratio are compared with those of DFB-LD integrated EA-MOD. Under 10Gb/s NRZ modulation, we obtain that DR-LD integrated EA-MOD. is 30% higher in output power on the on-state, about 50% lower in chirp, and slightly larger in extinction ratio than DFB-LD integrated EA-MOD.-MOD.

Influence of LC Cell Parameters on the Optical Switching Characteristics of a Bitable TN LCD

By employing the Berreman's backflow model, we investigated the effect of liquid crystal parameters on the optical switching characteristics of a bistable twisted-nematic liquid crystal cell. We found that d/p is the most important parameter for high speed operation.
