Techniques of XML Query Caching on the Web
Park, Dae-Sung ; Kang, Hyun-Chul ;
The Journal of Society for e-Business Studies, volume 11, issue 1, 2006, Pages 1~23
As data on the Web is more and more in XML due to proliferation of Web applications such as e-Commerce, it is strongly required to rapidly process XML queries. One of such techniques is XML query caching. For frequently submitted queries, their results could be cached in order to guarantee fast response for the same queries. In this paper, we propose techniques for XML query performance improvement whereby the set of node identifiers(NIS) for an XML query is cached. NIS is most commonly employed as a format of XML query result,, consisting of the identifiers of the XML elements that comprise the query result. With NIS, it is suitable to meet the Web applications data retrieval requirements because reconstruction and/or modification of query results and integration of multiple query results can be efficiently done. Incremental refresh of NIS against its source updates can also be efficiently done. When the query result is requested in XML, however, materialization of NIS is needed by retrieving the source XML elements through their identifiers. In this paper, we consider three different types of NISs. proposing the algorithms of their creation, materialization, and incremental refresh. All of them were implemented using an RDBMS. Through a detailed set of performance experiments, we showed the efficiency of the proposed XML query caching techniques.
The Impact of Perceived Security Control on the Acceptance of Internet Banking
Suh, Bo-Mil ;
The Journal of Society for e-Business Studies, volume 11, issue 1, 2006, Pages 25~52
This study focuses on customer perception of security control under Internet banking environment Internet banking customers' understanding of security control is insufficient. They are not fully aware of security technologies for Internet banking. Moreover, they cannot know which control is implemented and maintained on an Internet banking site when visiting the site. This study, therefore, attempts to find the impact of customer perception of security control on Internet banking acceptance. The research model is based on the TAM (Technology Acceptance Model), and introduces trust as an additional belief. Trust has been investigated in the marketing area, and begins to be focused in e-business area. A Web survey of Internet banking users collected 845 cases. Statistical analyses, using SEM (Structural Equation Modeling), partially supported the hypotheses that perceived strength of security control has an impact on three beliefs: trust, perceived usefulness, and perceived ease of use. We also verified the impact of these beliefs on attitude toward using, on behavioral intention to use, and on actual use. It is, therefore, verified that perceived strength of security control is a determinant of Internet banking acceptance.
A Study on Methodology to Assess IT Investment by ROI
Kim, Young-Woon ; Chong, Ki-Won ;
The Journal of Society for e-Business Studies, volume 11, issue 1, 2006, Pages 53~67
It is difficult to justify an IT investment unless the investment is expected to have a direct impact on a corporation's performance under rapidly changing business environment. It is important to demonstrate the benefit of the investment through a pre-investment assessment process to induce the executive's decision. This paper presents a methodology to assess the investment by analyzing cost and benefit of the investment. This methodology shows tangible cost as well as hidden cost by analyzing total cost of ownership. The methodology also produces ROI by performing cost benefit analysis including financial and non-financial factors. This paper suggests a systematic way to support If investment decision marking process by evaluating the investment objectively.
Future Technology Foresight for an Enterprise : Methodology and Case

The Journal of Society for e-Business Studies, volume 11, issue 1, 2006, Pages 69~89
Due to the technological developments and industrial changes , studying for the future has been attached great importance. According to the forthcoming ubiquitous computing environment or smart environment, it is necessary for a country and an enterprise to forecast the future or foresight the future technologies . Although many countries have been doing the foresight, it is difficult for the enterprise to try future foresight activity, because the foresight activity needs lots of the costs and time for good results. Also, almost methodologies used in foresight are suitable for country level foresight projects. In this research, a methodology is developed for an enterprise to use easily, and a case based on the proposed methodology is presented. The proposed foresight methodology is developed based on the traditional forecasting methods, FAR, Future Wheel, and Scenario. Especially, the methodology focused on the customers of a company.
An Assessment of IT ROI by Estimating the Monetary Value of Non-financial Benefits
Kim, Young-Woon ; Chong, Ki-Won ;
The Journal of Society for e-Business Studies, volume 11, issue 1, 2006, Pages 91~112
Unlike typical corporate investments, IT expenditures have direct impact on many aspects of a business, including those that are difficult to quantify. Therefore, financial indicators alone do not do justice to the full effect of an If investment. Proposed in this paper is a methodology to measure the return on IT investments, including non-financial impacts expressed in terms of monetary values. This methodology shows tangible cost as well as hidden cost by analyzing total cost of ownership. The methodology also produces ROI by performing cost benefit analysis including financial and non-financial factors. This paper suggests a more objective validation of If's impact on the business activities. It rationalizes investment priorities and provides a systematic approach to effective IT investment.
A Study on the Construction of RosettaNet Multi-PIP Environment with Contents- Based Document Routing System
Kim, Min-Soo ;
The Journal of Society for e-Business Studies, volume 11, issue 1, 2006, Pages 113~126
The scope of e-Commerce process becomes wider as the emphasis on the enterprise collaboration grows. It has expanded from its initial settings of order management or billing processes to cover various collaborative processes in the company's value-chain. In order for those collaborative e-Commerce processes to be successful, corresponding business processes should be fully supported by standard bodies. The RosettaNet consortium, one of the most representative international B2B standard bodies, has steadily provided new PIPs to support those expansions. Since individual RosettaNet PIPs correspond to unit tasks that are executed separately in or between companies, multiple PIPs have to be integrally used to properly handle larger business cases. RosettaNet implementation, however, has suffered from the lack of standard guidelines or deliverables to refer under this multi-PIP environment. In this research, a contents-based document routing system is implemented. By applying this routing system to the RosettaNet e-Logistics program where multi-PIP environment is inevitable, we verified our contents-based document routing system is effective to support multi-PIP environment flexibly.
A Study on the Web Service based ASP e-Business Model for QR(Quick Response) System in Textiles and Clothing Industry
Shin, Sang-Moo ;
The Journal of Society for e-Business Studies, volume 11, issue 1, 2006, Pages 127~144
This paper presents Web service based ASP (WS-ASP) model for QR(Quick Response) system, supply chain management system in the textiles and clothing industry. The Korean textiles and clothing industry is mostly composed of medium and small-sized companies, which are not capable of recruiting If specialists and making a large scale investment in IT. ASP model not only let them obtain QR system at relatively low usage cost, but also take higher vendor risk due to high dependency. This paper argue that WS-ASP model is appropriate for QR systems by complimenting ASP model with lower vender risk, which results from re-integrating software-on-demand services distributed to several QR specialized WS-ASP vendors.
