A Study on the Domain of Strategic Alliance between Corporations in the CALS System.

Strategic alliance between corporations is essential to build a CALS system. Specially, companies cooperate one another to accomplish the shared environment in the system. During the construction of the CALS system, we can apply the concepts of ILS and SCM to develop the breadth and depth of shared environment between firms. In order to build such intended environment in the CALS system, we propose five dimensions with 30 variables to be considered. These dimensions are Information Sharing, Task Sharing, System Sharing, Parts and Facilities Sharing, and Institution Sharing. Structured interviews were peformed to measure the degree of shared environment designed in 7 CALS pilot systems in Korea. The results show that the level of the shared environment in the context of vertical relationships between firms in the CALS systems is fairly high. In contrast, the level of the sharing between competing companies in horizontal relationships is relatively low in most of the pilot systems.
Computer Supports for Engineering CALS

As todays manufacturers and business organizations are struggling to compete in the global marketplace, they are concentrating on the efficient use of numerous information on design, development production, testing, distribution, and maintenance of products throughout their whole life cycles. To meet these organizations demands on information integration, the CALS has been recently focused as a dominant philosophy. In this paper, we introduce the computer supports for engineering CALS in which the engineering process at an initial phase of product development is simultaneously and collaboratively peformed. The proposed system supports the following functions: a virtual prototyping, a distributed collaborative design, and engineering information management. We have conformed to CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) standard to support interoperability between distributed objects and have used JAVA to support cross-platform and distributed user access to the system on the Web. Under this system, multidisciplinary design teams in engineering CALS environment can collaboratively perform their tasks, share design information and communicate with each other on the Web.
A Case Study on Implementing Highway Approval/Permission System in Construction CALS

This paper is to analyze business activities of approval/permission (A/P) and to describe its problems. To conduct the A/P business activities currently, there are many problems such as complex business process and different business policies among the each organization. In order to solve the problems, this paper suggests the A/P system of highway construction CALS (Commerce at Light Speed). CALS, a top down vision of complete computing integration, promises to support electronic data exchange. The A/P system is designed to classified documents based on CALS standard and store them to database. The data register to the A/P system by the Internet, and each construction company can use the A/P system by Internet also. Benefits of the A/P system is reduction in junk documents for approval/permission actives, improvement in conduct and services life cycle support.
A Broker Based Synchronous Transaction Algorithm For Virtual Market Place

Internet-based electronic trade has been growing fast. But most users are not yet familiar with the system and find it very difficult to purchase and sell the products in the cyber market place. To handle these problems, agent-based virtual market place system has been proposed where agents instead of individuals participate in trading of goods. Most of the proposed models have been in the two general categories. The first is the direct transaction among sellers and buyers, and the second is the agent-based transaction. However, the transaction is not fair and the best deal can't be guaranteed for both models. In this paper, we propose a new broker based synchronous transaction algorithm which is fair to both parties and guarantees the best deal. Our algorithm is implemented using Visual C++ and the experimental results show that our method is better than the two traditional transaction models in every performance metrics, Number of transactions are increased up to 21% and price adjustment is up to 280% better for some transactions.
Effects of Service Quality in Internet Shopping Mall on Electronic Commerce Performance

The Electronic Commerce is expected as one of the most prospective industries in the 21th century, This research performed a survey and analysis is based on the results of the service quality model and previous research of the service quality in MIS. Service quality, one instrument developed by the marketing area, is provided as a possible measure of internet shopping mall, Service quality measures five service dimensions of tangible, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy. The main purposes of this study are to develop an exploratory model based on service quality that can explain the factors of customer's perceived service quality and investigate how these factors are related to consumer satisfaction. The results of this survey are summarized as follows: (1) Reliability and responsiveness of internet shopping mall are evaluated as very important factors, (2) Service quality is an antecedent of consumer satisfaction, (3) Consumer satisfaction has a significant effect on purchase intentions.
Business Process Models for the Implementation and Operation of Internet Shopping Mall

There have been many research papers and practical implementations on the various EC(Electronic Commerce) aspects such as merchant system, security, payment gateway, legal and policy issues. However, it is very hard to find the systematic approaches and business process models from the viewpoint of the company willing to start B2C(Business-To-Customer) EC. Therefore, we develop business process models for the planning, systems analysis and design, implementation, and operation of internet shopping mall to suggest a guideline and reference model for the realization of successful B2C EC.
Software Agent for Financial Cybermediaries in Electronic Marketspace

The World Wide Web(WWW) has provided multi-media cyberspace for electronic markets where suppliers and demanders can do global electronic business with each other directly and conveniently. There are two contradictory views on the roles of intermediaries in electronic markets. One says we may not need intermediaries in doing business because suppliers and demanders can contact with each other directly in electronic markets. The other thinks that the intermediary function may be vertically decomposed from the company's internal value chain because it can be done more efficiently through networks by external intermediaries. Intelligent software agent is a new emerging technology in the field of computer science. An intelligent agent can support and do actions on behalf of users on computer networks. We think that this technology can be utilized to implement more efficient cybermediaries for electronic commerce. This paper proposes an XML-based framework for financial software agent, which selects financial products best fitted for the customer's needs in electronic market environment.
Development of CITIS Reference Model System on Internet

In this paper we present the development of CITIS(Contractor Integrated Technical Information Service) reference model system which can be utilized for electronic commerce among enterprises. For the physical analysis target model, we selected switching system businesses of Korea Telecom. From analysis of life-cycle business process and data, we derived CITIS reference model containing CITIS To-Be model and CITIS scenario. Derived CITIS reference model is generalized so that it can be used not only for switching system businesses but other business areas regarding CITIS implementation. On the base of the derived CITIS reference model, We also developed CITIS information management system and CITIS-support workflow system as CITIS reference model system. Developed CITIS reference model system supports information and business process sharing among enterprises on internet and it does make a contribution to expansion of CITIS which is moving from conceptual research towards real implementation phase.
Key Recovery Technology for Enterprise Information Infrastructure(EII)

As Electronic Commerce is getting larger, the volume of Internet-based commerce by enterprise is also getting larger. This phenomenon applies to Internet EDI, Global Internet Business, and CALS information services. In this paper, a new type of cryptographic key recovery mechanism satisfying requirements of business environment is proposed. It is also applied to enterprise information infrastructure for managing employees' task related to handling official properties of electronic enterprise documents exchange. This technology needs to be complied to information management policy of a certain enterprise environment because behavior of cryptographic key recovery can cause interruption of the employees' privacy. However, the cryptographic key recovery mechanism is able to applied to any kind of information service, the application areas of key recovery technology must be seriously considered as not disturbing user's privacy It will depend on the policy of enterprise information management of a specific company.
Intelligent Search System Providing The Various Conditional Product Search

A cyber shopping mall is a place where consumers acquire the product information and make purchase decision in the cyber space. Even though there are many advantages over traditional malls, there are still several limitations to do shopping in an existing cyber mall. One of them is the absence of efficient search tool to handle various products specifications. Existing search systems usually support the "keyword search only" with limited product information. Consumers spend lots of their time and efforts in searching products and comparing them. Recently, some web sites provide the shopping mall comparison service that supports the additional search conditions such as price and maker. These services improve the situation but it is not still acceptable. In this paper, we propose an intelligent product search system based on a mediator which supports various conditional search for each product. Our system provides consumers with search results that satisfy purchase specifications. Our system is implemented in Visual basic and pert and experimental results show satisfactory performance.
Study on a Basis of a Smart Card Model

In general, the electronic commerce systems comprise the background system, terminal, network and smart cards. Among them, the smart card systems are expected to take a great portion of applications for the convenience of rapidly improving technology. The technology includes adopting RISC processors or co-processors for cryptography and developing new memory systems based on the standardization. In this paper, we investigate the overall trends of the technology and the standardization process of smart cards. We also propose the guidelines to enhance the capabilities of designing H/W and S/W related to COS(Chip Operating System).
A Study on the Comparison of the Next Generation EDI Technologies

Currently, various international standard organizations, academic institutes, and private organizations are making efforts to improve and expand the traditional EDI. The next generation EDI has potential to impact on the existing and planned EDI systems. Major objective of this study is to systematically analyze and compare various next generation EDI technologies. In order to accomplish the research objective, this paper presented the following three issues. First, overall development trend and types of the next generation EDI were analyzed. Secondly, basic concepts of a few important next generation EDI technologies were presented. Lastly, models to be used to analyze the various next generation EDI technologies were proposed and results of the analyses peformed based on the proposed models were presented.
EasyConnection : An Efficient Approach to Integrating Heterogeneous Databases

There have been several approaches to integrating heterogeneous database systems in enterprises. Due to their inherent limitations, however, it has been difficult to apply them to actual situations in enterprises. In this paper, we propose EasyConnection, a system that is based on the flexible and extensible architecture and overcomes the limitations of the previous approaches, EasyConnection consists of Wrappers, Sharing Manager, and Clients, and the connections among these components are based on CORBA. It can also be used as the information management mechanism for such application systems as ERP, PDM, and EAI.
