This article explores what is the genuine Koreanness in Korean arithmetic by examining what kind of influence the Chinese arithmetic had on the Korean arithmetic and how the Korean arithmetic scholars had accepted and utilized it. Because the main stream of Korean culture before the end of Chosun dynasty was located under the umbrella of the Chinese philosophy, technique, and culture, it is necessary to make researches on the historical documents and materials in order to establish the milestone in the Korean arithmetic history for the Korean arithmetic scholars. For this research, the arithmetic books published in between the sixteenth century and the end of Chosun dynasty are mainly consulted and discussed, dealing with the bibliographical introduction in the arithmetic Part in Re Outline History of the Korean Science & Technology written by Prof. Yong-Woon Kim.

As Chinese philosophy has developed by commentary for the original texts, the Nine Chapters has been greatly improved by the commentary given by Liu Hui and it was transformed from an arithmetic text to Mathematics. Comparing his commentary and Chinese philosophical development up to his date, we conclude that Liu Hui was able to make such a great leap by his thorough understanding of philosophical development.

In the Chosun Dynasty Nam, Byung-Gil(another name is Nam, Sang-Gil alias Won-Sang; 1820-1869) made a research comparing Chinese traditional mathematics with western mathematics, which missionaries who came to China at the end of Ming Dynasty introduced. He particularly studied fundamental differences between Chinese and western methods to solve algebraic equations. He wrote an article "Moo-Ee-Hae", in which he insisted that the two methods are eventually same though they are different in the고 expressions. His article has big significance as the first mathematic paper in the history of Korean mathematics.thematics.

Using Fermi coordinates and the principle curvature on the tubula hypersurfaces, we characterize space of constant sectional curvature by analysing the shape operator on the tubular hypersurfaces.

A Historical Study on Statistical Packages in Cluster Analysis

Since cluster analysis encompasses many diverse techniques for discovering structure within complex bodies of data, it has been employed as an effective tool in scientific inquiry. Recent works on cluster analysis softwares carried out by SAS, SPSS, S-PLUS and BMDP are briefly summarized and investigated in this paper. The inferred statistical package for windows executing a nay for data analysis in modern statistical techniques has several merits superior to other packages. Especially, S-PLUS can be designed and tried out much faster than other statistical packages. S-PLUS provides a graphic which is interactive, informative, flexible ways of looking at data. Also, if a statistical computation time is long and programs are complex, these can be shorten by providing interfaces to the UNIX systems (or C, Fortran).

There are two approach methods widely in statistical inferences. First is sampling theory methods and the other is Bayesian methods. In this paper, we will introduce the most basic differences of the two approach methods. Especially, we investigate and introduce the historical origin of Bayesian methods in Statistical inferences which is currently used. Also, we introduce the some characteristics of sampling theory method and Bayesian methods.
