Gou Gu Shu in the 19th century Chosun

As a sequel to the previous paper Gou Gu Shu in the 18th century Chosun, we study the development of Chosun mathematics by investigating that of Gou Gu Shu in the 19th century. We investigate Gou Gu Shu obtained by Hong Gil Ju, Nam Byung Gil, Lee Sang Hyuk and Cho Hee Soon among others and find some characters of the 19th century Gou Gu Shu in Chosun.
Study on the Volume of a Sphere in the Historical Perspective and its Didactical Implications

This study aims to investigate the evolution of calculating the volume of a sphere in eastern and western mathematical history. In western case, Archimedes', Cavalieri's and Kepler's approaches, and in eastern case, Nine Chapters';, Liu Hui's and Zus' approaches are worthy of noting. The common idea of most of these approaches is the infinitesimal concept corresponding to Cavalieri's or Liu-Zu's principle which would developed to the basic idea of Calculus. So this study proposes an alternative to organization of math-textbooks or instructional procedures for teaching the volume of a sphere based on the principle.
Problem-solving and Descartes'

This paper investigate Descartes'
, which is significant in the history of mathematics, from standpoint of problem-solving. Descartes has clarified the general principle of problem-solving. What is more important, he has found his own new method to solve confronting problem. It is said that those great achievements have exercised profound influence over following generation. Accordingly this article analyze Descartes' work focusing his method.
On the data of Euclid

This study is about the Data which is one of Euclid's writing. It dealt with the organization of contents, formal system and mathematical meaning. First, we investigated the organization of contents of the Data. Second, on the basis of this investigation, we analyzed the formal system of the Data. It contains the analysis of described method of definition, proposition, proof and the meaning of 'given'. Third, we explored the mathematical meaning of the Data which can be classified as algebraic point of view, geometric point of view and the opposite point of view to 'The Elements'.
Construction of Korean Traditional Tessellations via GSP(Geometer's SkechPad)

From the ancient Korea, our ancestor had designed the unique pattern which is Dan-chung, in architectures such as palace and Buddhist temple. In Dan-chung pattern, there are many various kinds, that is geometric pattern, arabesque pattern, plant pattern, flower pattern, animal pattern, Buddhist pattern and living pattern. So, we can see the tessellations in the Dan-chung pattern, moreover we can find the beauty of tessellation in the Korean traditional architectures and crafts. In this paper, I'll show you Korean traditional tessellations via GSP 4.0. which means geomeric program Geometer's SkechPad.
On differentiation of multi -variable functions

It has been noticed the greater importance of mathematical education, particularly of multi-variable calculus in the undergraduate level with remarkable progress of all sorts of sciences requiring mathematical analysis. However, there was lack of variety of introducing the definition of differentiation of multi-variable functions - in fact, all of them basically rely on the chain rules. Here we will introduce a way of defining the geometrical differentiation of the multi-variable functions based upon our teaching experience. One of its merits is that it provides the geometric explanation of the differentiation of the multi-variable functions, so that it conveys the meaning of the differentiation better compared with the known methods.
Roles of Mathematics in the Software-related Fields

This paper concerns with the roles of mathematics, that is, mathematics as its own roles and importance, and mathematics as the fundamentals of the software related fields. This paper also introduces the corelation between the mathematics and the software-related fields, using diagrams that show the different tracks of credit completion depending on the majors in the software-related fields.
Error Correcting using the Check digit on Barcode, and the present and future of Barcode

Barcode technology is becoming an essential tool for every companies, and this makes help us to gain time, analysis of goods, an inventory control, a prevention of burglar and so on. In this paper, we have treated about the history of barcode, its error correcting using the check digit, and the present and future of barcode. We wish roles of mathematician on new barcode system which it bring on an economical efficiency and stability.
A Study on the Construction of Regular Polygons in 'Method of Ruler and Compass'

In this paper we study a book 'Method of Ruler and Compass' written in Russia three hundreds years ago. In this book many construction problems related with plane figures and solid figures are solved. In this study we analyze construction method of some regular polygon(square, regular pentagon, regular octagon, regular decagon) suggested in 'Method of Ruler and Compass', give mathematical proofs of these construction.
On the Attractive Teaching Method of mathematics Using Living Mathematics

In this paper, we survey the thought of students for the reason of the study of mathematics, for mathematics, for the textbook of mathematics and the attitude appling mathematical knowledge in the real life and analyze that. We have a correct understanding how to study mathematics and that motivates study of mathematics to students. Student have a correct understanding how to use basic knowledge of mathematical theory in the real life and have for the study of mathematics. In this article, we investigate the reason for studying mathematics in the real life and analyze the way how to use basic knowledge of mathematical theories through actual examples. The reasons for studying math are divided into 3 categories: mathematics for obtaining common sense and wisdom, practical mathematics for application, and mathematics as a liberal art for promoting our characters and recreation. We investigate the reasons for studying mathematics in each category. By theses results, we make the effectual educational method for mathematics and investigate the effect.
