A Study on Management Issues Based on User Attitudes of Electronic Academic Journals

This study assesses user attitudes towards electronic academic journals and suggests management issues for users and information managers. To reveal academic scholars' user attitudes, this paper is an attempt to survey the concepts of electronic journals, thoughts, perceptions and experiences of a sample of university faculty. Based upon various aspects of user attitudes, this study derives effective management techniques for electronic academic journals in library and information center.
A Study on Web OPAC Services in Public Libraries

The purpose of this study is to examine the service of Web OPACs in public libraries. Thirty-eight public libraries are grouped into eight class by the type of system and user interface. The Libraries in the eight class of them are analyzed by five characteristics. The result of this study shows that both functions and interface design of the Web OPACs in public library need to be improved for them.

As the Library and Information Science(LIS) has developed as an academic discipline, the importance of its research has also been emphasized. In that context, this study examines the theoretical underpinning of research in LIS, provides background of this study, analyzes research articles published in the Journal of the Korean Library and Information Science Society and the Journal of the Korean Society for Information Management between 1993 and 1997 and, based upon the analysis, explores some perspectives on research in LIS.
A Study on the MARC Format for Holdings Data

This article investigates the general characteristics and developments of the MARC format for holdings data. It also analyzes the record structure, content designation, and the content of it, mainly based on USMARC and KORMARC formats. Structure and content designation of them are almost same with those of the bibliographic and authority formats. The data fields divided into functional blocks based on their functions, but only 0XX, 5XX, 8XX fields are used in the holdings formats. Record contents of the data in the 008 fields include more elements related to the holdings and acquisition information. Variable fields can be grouped into several blocks, including those for numbers and codes; for notes fields, for location , and for holdings data. Holdings data fields include caption and pattern fields, enumeration and chronology fields, textual holdings fields, and item information fields. This article analyzes the content in each data fields in detail.
A Study of User's Characteristics of Searching Behavior on the World-Wide Web

Information retrieval on World Wide Web is very different from the one in traditional environment. Since Internet user's searching behavior shows it's own special search characteristics, a study of user's specific characteristics is necessary to offer better services. Through analysis and examination of Internet user behaviors, we suggest guidelines of design for developing Internet -based information retrieval systems.
A Study on the Design of Hypertext-Based Linear Displays for an Online Thesaurus

The purpose of this study is to design hypertext-based linear displays for an online thesaurus in librarianship and information science with the aid of ISO and ANSI/NISO thesaurus standards. This study starts with the assumptions that hypertext-based online thesauri would provide a convenient and useful subject retrieval tool to both indexers and searchers of information and become starting point for the study of thesauri searching patterns, which were difficult with printed thesauri. For this study, thesaurus of librarianship and information science was stored in MS ACCESS 97 as a relational database and, for the conjunction of a relational database with World Wide Web, technics of ASP(Active Server Pages) were applied under Windows NT operation.

A Study on the Construction and Use of CD-ROM Network Systems at University Libraries

This study aims to identify factors to be considered in designing and operating CD-ROM network systems efficiently and provide designers and operators with basic guidelines. In this study, the current status and problems of CD-ROM network systems at 72 domestic university libraries are examined, and user behavior and satisfaction of 64 actual users in 3 universities are analyzed. In addition, to examine the influenced correlation among the factors such as user satisfaction, system operating policy, system resources and system performance,
test, F test and regression analysis are carried out and the factors influencing user satisfaction are examined.
