A Study of the Basic Factors of Bibliographic Tool for the Bibliotherapy

The purpose of this study is to assist librarians in developing a biblographic tool for the bibliotherapy. Bibliotherapy is a form of psychotherapy in which carefully selected reading materials are used to assist a subject in solving personal problems or for other therapeutic purposes. However, bibliotherapy has rarely been either studied or practiced in Korea. For a bibliographic tool which is called `situational bibliography`, a client situation has to be classified by the factors of biological place and personal relations, type of stress or symptoms. This study, in this regard, is examined related recent researches in the field of psychology or psychoanalysis. Main conclusions made in this study are summarized as follows : The most important factors to classify a client situation in a bibliographic tool are sex, age, home background, personal relations and mental health issues.
Evaluation of the Quality of Records of the Serials Union Catalog Database

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the quality of the Serials Union Catalog(UCAT) of KISTI. In examining both MARC records and bibliographic display records of 172 Japanese serials, AACR2R and KORMARC formats were used as the standard rules. Those records were described in the minimum or incomplete level ; but had repeated errors in various data fields, which included the incorrect choice of main headings, parallel titles and other titles, the improper use of language codes and related data fields, and the provision of incomplete information, etc. To improve the overall quality of bibliographic database, thorough comprehension and application of cataloging rules and MARC formats are strongly required.

Information Literacy Instruction(ILI) is recognised with essential role of the school library, as information use ability appears with one literacy in knowledge and information society. The successful ILI is necessary teaching and teaming model of student`s activities that it provides the various experience, to motivate, to promote positive participation. Consequently, this study is developed to teaching and teaming model of student`s activity through Multiple Intelligences which emphasizes to human`s multi dimension and activities.
A Study on the Research Patterns of Domestic Library & Information Researchers through LISA & ISA

In order to clarify the trend of study by the researchers in the field of library and information science. This study is to analyze the thesis of library and information science researchers in various aspects which is included in LISA and ISA, the representative database in library and information science. In addition, the study is to analyze the form of citation of domestic library and information science researchers by studying the citation written in the thesis of the database according to the classification of form and nationality. The study made a conclusion that the journal is most frequent]y cited regarding forms, which is expected to promote the internationalization of library and information science and indicate the direction of our study in the future.
A Comparative Study of Graduate Archival Programs in Korea and North America

The purpose of this study is to find necessary factors and to suggest the future directions for the successful graduate archival education in Korea by comparing current programs hi Korea and North America. Name of the schools, credits, required and elective courses, practice, research and thesis are compared by analyzing web sites and literature review. Development of more various Master`s programs, a separate degree in Master of Archival Studies, more credits for the degree, standardization of curriculum, and the working environments for practicum, internship and research are found as important elements for the program. In the end, more collaborations with other disciplines, more faculties with working experiences and Ph. D. degree in archival studies, communications among the universities, archival institutions and professional societies/associations, continuous research on the programs, improvement of the quality of archivists, strong national supports for archives and records and establishment of the strong quality control for being archivists are suggested for the future directions.
A Study on Three Step Strategy for the Transformation of School Libraries into School Media Centers

This thesis presents a step-by-step development strategy to implement electronic school libraries corresponding to level 2 among 3 levels of the school library. The implementation of electronic school libraries means the transformation of school libraries into school media centers. This thesis divides the implementation of electronic school libraries into 3 steps. The first step is the implementation of facilities, the second step the implementation of web-based information system, the third step the networking of school libraries, on the basis of the first and second steps. And this thesis presents the basic policy of educational administration aspects to support 3 steps.
Architectural Type and Special Feature of Libraries in North Korea

This study, firstly, investigates the basic design type and special features of the shape and structure of The Grand People`s Study House in North Korea which corresponds to The National Library of Korea in South Korea and the people`s study house in the provinces that was unknown until now, the public library of North Korea with the combined type of school(student) library and public(adult) library in South Korea, and university libraries. Secondly, by analyzing the establishment background, documentary records and others, we researched the historical background of present architectural type and design, and the general difference from libraries in South Korea.
A Study on the Communication between User and Librarian in the Digital Reference Services

Examine the communication between user and librarian in the digital reference services and discuss the limitations and possibilities in the quality of reference interview. Along with a comparison of traditional vs. electronic reference interview, 26 digital reference services in academic libraries were investigated. Some strategies were suggested to improve the quality of user-librarian communication in the process of accessing the service, of question negotiation and of responding to the questions.
A Study on Methods of Digitalization of Older Oriental Books by Using XML

This article is a study on methods of digitalization for older oriental books using XML (extensible Markup Language) proposed as a standard for Web documents by W3C in 1996. In this paper, to digitalize older books, 1 designed the XML DTD(Document Type Definition) for general older oriental books and input the texts of the older books on the basis of the XML DTD, examined the problems and limitations in light of the technical level these days, and established the model of the system for using XML files of older oriental books at a national level in the future.

This study is to propose the strategic plans and the methods of status establishment for developing the specialized information centers in science & technology towards the knowledge information society in 21st century. The major objectives of this study are to analyze present management status and problems, to suggest the standards of designation and effective management methods, and to reestablish the status of specialized information centers in science & technology.
Qualitative Level of the Korean and American Journal Paper

The object of this study is to compare qualitative level of the Korean and American journal paper by faculty members in Korea. To achieve this object, the data was produced by the questionnaires from professors of the Chonbuk National University. The major conclusions are summarized as follows : 1. As a whole, American journal is evaluated better than Korean Journal. The greatest difference between Korean journal and American journal is that the American journal is more original and useful than Korean journal. 2. This study shows that American journal which deals with veterinary science is highly valuable and with living science is low. In Korean journal, the appropriateness of format is highly valuable. 3. The respondents who had studied in America for more than two years evaluate American Journal more excellent than those for less than two years. 4. Regardless of the periods of study in America, however, most of respondents evaluate American journal better than Korean Journal in all parts.
A Study on Automatic Extraction of Citation Information for Reference Linking

Recently, the way information is accessed has changed significantly because of the rapid growth of the Internet and a move toward electronic Publishing. With that condition, there in be a need to efficiently determine and extract relevant information from digital documents. This study has proposed that template mining can be used for extracting different kinds of information from digital documents, and described research of reference ]inking system and then built temp]ate for citation information using analysis result of sample articles. Also, this study has shown the potential of template mining to automatically create citation databases.
