Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 1, 2007, Pages 1~12
To use multimedia data in restricted resources of mobile environment, any management method of MPEG-7 documents is needed. At this time, some XML clustering methods can be used. But, to improve the performance efficiency better, a new clustering method which uses the characteristics of MPEG-7 documents is needed. A new clustering improved query processing speed at multimedia search and it possible document storage about various application suitably. In this paper, we suggest a new clustering method of MPEG-7 documents for effective management in multimedia data of large capacity, which uses some semantic relationships among elements of MPEG-7 documents. And also we compared it to the existed clustering methods.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 1, 2007, Pages 13~25
A cache is used for optimization of query forwarding in the Grid database. To decrease network transmission cost, frequently used data is cached from meta database. Existing cache management method has a unbalanced resource problem, because it doesn't manage replicated data in each node. Also, it increases network cost by cache misses. In the case of data modification, if cache is not updated, queries can be transferred to wrong nodes and it can be occurred others nodes which have same cache. Therefore, it is necessary to solve the problems of existing method that are using unbalanced resource of replica and increasing network cost by cache misses. In this paper, cache management method for query forwarding optimization is proposed. The proposed method manages caches through cache manager. To optimize query forwarding, the cache manager makes caching data from lower loaded replicated node. The query processing cost and the network cost will decrease for the reducing of wrong query forwarding. The performance evaluation shows that proposed method performs better than the existing method.

We present a robust face tracking system from the sequence of video images based on effective detector and Kalman filter. To construct the effective face detector, we extract the face features using the five types of simple Haar-like features. Extracted features are reinterpreted using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and interpreted principal components are used for Support Vector Machine (SVM) that classifies the faces and non-faces. We trace the moving face with Kalman filter, which uses the static information of the detected faces and the dynamic information of changes between previous and current frames. To make a real-time tracking system, we reduce processing time by adjusting the frequency of face detection. In this experiment, the proposed system showed an average tracking rate of 95.5% and processed at 15 frames per second. This means the system is robust enough to track faces in real-time.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 1, 2007, Pages 36~48
This paper proposed 3D keyframe animation using orientation interpolator. 3D keyframe animation consists of a number of transform nodes that have geometrical node of initial model and several interpolator nodes that represent the object moving. In the proposed algorithm, we randomly selects transform nodes with orientation interpolator node and performs to resample quaternion components for haying uniform key time. And then, watermark bits are embedded into quaternion components with large rotation angles. Experimental results verified that the watermark embedded by the proposed algorithm had good robustness against geometrical attacks and timeline attacks and also PSNR of keyvalue in orientation interpolator node is above 42dB.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 1, 2007, Pages 49~57
Recently, CMOS RF integration has been widely explored in the wireless communication area to save cost, power, and chip area. The direct conversion architecture, rather than a more conventional super-het-erodyne, has been an attractive choice for single-chip integration because of its many advantages. However, the direct conversion architecture has several fundamental problems to solve in achieving performance comparable to a super-heterodyne counterpart. In this paper, we describe a programmable filter for mobile communication terminals using a direct conversion architecture. The proposed filter can be implemented with the active-RC filter and programmed to meet the requirements of different communication standards, including GSM, DECT and WCDMA. The filter can be tuned to select a detail frequency by changing the gate voltage of the MOS resistors. The gain of the proposed architecture can be programmed from 27dB to 72dB using the filter gain and VGA in 3dB steps.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 1, 2007, Pages 58~65
This dissertation proposes digital video protection algorithm lot moving image based on MPEG. Shuffling-based encryption algorithms using a fixed random shuffling table are quite simple and effective but vulnerable to the chosen plaintext attack. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to change the key used for generation of the shuffling table. However, this may pose a significant burden on the security key management system. A better approach is to generate the shuffling table based on the local feature of an image. In order to withstand the chosen plaintext attack, at first, we propose a interleaving algorithm that is adaptive to the local feature of an image. Secondly, using the multiple shuffling method which is combined interleaving with existing random shuffling method, we encrypted the DPCM processed 8*8 blocks. Experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm needs only 10% time of SEED encryption algorithm and moreover there is no overhead bit. In video sequence encryption, multiple random shuffling algorithms are used to encrypt the DC and AC coefficients of intra frame, and motion vector encryption and macroblock shuffling are used to encrypt the intra-coded macroblock in predicted frame.

SDR technology is a fundamental wireless access technology that combines and accommodates multiple wireless communication standards in one transceiver system through just modifying software using modular communication platforms without any hardware modifications for RF and IF signal processing on the basis of high performance DSP devices. Various communication systems that are designed under diverse and complex network environments require the communication platforms on the basis of SDR supporting reorganization to guarantee simple and fast communication interfaces among the respective wireless networks. This paper introduces a main idea on the implementation of platform on the basis of SDR and a communication platform is designed for experiments that is composed of a DSP board with TMS320C6713 CPU, a FPGA board processing IF signals, and a module with RF transceiver processing wireless LAN frequency bandwidth. Various modulation schemes(BPSK, QPSK, and 16QAM) used in communication systems are applied and tested on the designed platform and the test results shows that it is possible to design a reconfigurable communication terminal platform.

IPv6 is the internet protocol for next generation which can solve the problem of IPv4 protocol. Mobile IPv6 efficiently provides the mobility for mobile devices holding the properties of IPv6. iSCSI(Internet Small Computer System Interface) is a block-oriented storage access protocol that enables a user to recognize a remote storage as their own local block device through general TCP/IP networks. Since iSCSI uses a standard Ethernet switch and router for this kind of access, it can not only be applized to Ethernet technologies, but can also be used to create a storage networking system without any distance restrictions that can equally be applied to a wireless network environment. Accordingly, this paper presents an alternative approach to overcome the limited storage space of mobile devices based on the IPv6 iSCSI initiator driver which was originally designed for wired networks. Also, this paper describes about the implementation and performance analysis of mobile education service system using virtual storage devices in IPv6 wireless networks.
A study on Improving Latency-Optimized Fair Queuing Algorithm
Kim, Tae-Joon ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 1, 2007, Pages 83~93
WFQ (Weighted Fair Queuing) is the most popular fair queuing algorithm, but it had the inherent drawback of a poet bandwidth utilization, particularly under the traffic requiring a low rate but tight delay bound such as internet phone. It was recently identified that the poor utilization is mainly due to the non-optimized latency of a flow and then LOFQ(Latency-Optimized Fair Queuing) to overcome the drawback was introduced. In this paper, we improve the performance of LOFQ by introducing an occupied resource optimization function and reduce the implementation complexity of recursive resource transformation by revising the transformation scheme. We also prove the superiority of LOFQ over WFQ in terms of utilization. The simulation result shows that the improved LOFQ provides
higher utilization than that in the legacy LOFQ.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 1, 2007, Pages 94~101
Partial dominant pruning(PDP) is regarded as the most practical scheme, reducing redundant messages arisen in broadcasting over ad hoc networks, in such a way that only part of nodes are allowed to forward the received broadcast message. In this paper we propose an extend PDP version called DPDP(directional PDP) such that it reduces not only the number of selected forward nodes, but also the number of antenna elements deployed by the forward nodes. It turns out through simulation that as the number of antenna elements increases, the number of selected forward nodes by DPDP slightly outnumbers that obtained using PDP but both the number of antenna elements deployed by the forward nodes and the redundancy ratio of the received message per node always outperform respectively those given by PDP.

An XML-based mediator system is the one of the methods to virtually integrate distributed heterogeneous information sources. It considers each information source as the virtual XML database and accesses the information source by XML query language. In this paper, we present a design concept and a development result of the graphic user interface that generates XML views for each biological information sources with flexibility and XML queries on the views. In addison to the easy generation of XML views and queries for the integrated schema, the system supports the form of the workflow, in which the part of the query result against biological information sources is used as input data of an another source.
Semantic Representation of Moving Objectin Video Data Using Motion Ontology
Shin, Ju-Hyun ; Kim, Pan-Koo ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 1, 2007, Pages 117~127
As the value of the multimedia data is getting high, the study on the semantic recognition and retrieval about the multimedia information is strongly demanded. In this paper, we build the motion ontology and adopt it for representing the meaning of the moving objects in video data. By referencing the WordNet structure, we extend its semantic meaning based on the reclassification of motion verbs, which are used to represent the semantic meaning of moving objects. The represented information is receded in OWL/RDF(S). Here, we could expect the 'Is-A' and 'Equivalent' reasoning of the data as we use the ontologies. And the semantic representation about the moving objects is possible through the video annotation using ontology. And we tested the accuracy of the system comparing with the key-word based system. As a result, we could get the approximately 10% improvement of the system performance.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 1, 2007, Pages 128~138
With the development of broadcasting technology from analogue to interactive digital, the number of TV channels and contents provided to audience is increasing in a rapid speed. In this multi-media and multi-channel world, it is difficult to adapt to the increase of TV channel numbers and their contents merely using remote controller to search channels. Due to this reason, EPG (Electronic Program Guide) has been one of the essential services providing convenience to audience. So EPG complying with European DVB-MHP specifications, which will be also our domestic standard, is proposed in this paper. In order to provide audiences with DiTV contents they preferred, we apply collaborative filtering algorithm to recommend contents according to preference value of audience group with similar preference. And we use JavaXlet application which is based on MHP to implement this EPG, while the result can be verified by OpenMHP emulator.

Oh, Seung-Hyun ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 1, 2007, Pages 139~146
Many researches had been gone about method to track moving object using wireless sensor network. We examined tradeoffs that exist between quantity of energy and correctness of tracking, and we confirmed that can get more energy sayings through improved motion prediction method. The consumed energy in the tracking is used by sensor node for sensing the object, and tracking correctness is a differ once of actual object position from calculated value by sensing. Some tracking methods and controlling parameters causes a variation of tracking correctness and energy consuming, we can get best energy effectiveness by motion prediction algorithm. Furthermore, we get better tracking quality and energy effectiveness through using a motion prediction algorithm that consider acceleration. By the simulation, we know that if we use an accurate motion prediction algorithm, node activation range that is used for target's predicted position should be restricted to sensing range of sensor is better.
