Kim, Won-Seop ; Chai, Young-Joon ; Kim, Tae-Yong ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 10, 2007, Pages 1229~1239
In conversion of web pages for mobile devices, since existing web conversion systems eliminate unnecessary objects indiscriminately or only convert the layout of a page, the original intention of a web designer is spoiled. In spite of great advances in device technology, there still remain the problems of limited display sire and insufficient CPU power. In this paper, we propose an adaptation method that minimizes the loss of information and preserves the original intention of a web designer from the visual aspect. In image conversion, the proposed method extracts meaningful information from the background against conventional resizing methods, and performs layout-based conversion for the arrangement of image components. Experimental results show the efficiency of the method on the accuracy and the usability in comparison with existing methods.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 10, 2007, Pages 1240~1250
We introduce technique for color transformation of characters between scenes in 2D animation. As colors are perceived differently owing to light source, so character colors like clothes, skin and so on are colored differently owing to atmosphere of each scene. This paper is made an attempt to solve mathematically color assignment of characters which has been worked by hand so far. We can find a matrix for color transformation of characters by appling principle of color stimulus to our algorithm. In scenes of existing 2D animation, basic colors and colors under light source of characters are used for the matrix. And matrixes are obtained for each scenes of 2D animation. If we are known basic colors of some characters, you can derive character colors under other light source environments using the matrix. Therefore, this paper describes automatic color transformation of characters between animation scenes.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 10, 2007, Pages 1251~1259
Motion blurs are caused by relative motion between the camera and the scene. The blurred image needs to be restored because undesired blur effect degrades the quality of the image. In this paper, we propose a new method for the identification of blur extent. Experiment shows that the proposed method identifies blur extent regardless of the size of the blur and the object in the original image.
Specification-based Analog Circuits Test using High Performance Current Sensors
Lee, Jae-Min ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 10, 2007, Pages 1260~1270
Testing and diagnosis of analog circuits(or mixed-signal circuits) continue to be a hard task for test engineers and efficient test methodologies to solve these problems are needed. This paper proposes a novel analog circuits test technique using time slot specification (TSS) based built-in current sensors (BICS). A technique for location of a fault site and separation of fault type based on TSS is also presented. The proposed built-in current sensors and TSS technique has high testability, fault coverage and a capability to diagnose catastrophic faults and parametric faults in analog circuits. In order to reduce time complexity of test point insertion procedure, external output and power nodes are used for test points and the current sensors are implemented in the automatic test equipment(ATE). The digital output of BICS can be easily combined with built-in digital test modules for analog IC test.

Kim, Sang-Ji ; Hwang, Yong-Hyeon ; Lee, Byoung-Gook ; Lee, Joon-Jae ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 10, 2007, Pages 1271~1283
To detect defect of FPD(flat panel displays) is very difficult due to uneven illumination on FPD panel image. This paper presents a method to detect various types of defects using the approximated image of the uneven illumination by B-spline. To construct a approximated surface, corresponding to uneven illumination background intensity, while reducing random noises and small defect signal, only the lowest smooth subband is used by wavelet decomposition, resulting in reducing the computation time of taking B-spline approximation and enhancing detection accuracy. The approximated image in lowest LL subband is expanded as the same size as original one by wavelet reconstruction, and the difference between original image and reconstructed one becomes a flat image of compensating the uneven illumination background. A simple binary thresholding is then used to separate the defective regions from the subtracted image. Finally, blob analysis as post-processing is carried out to get rid of false defects. For applying in-line system, the wavelet transform by lifting based fast algorithm is implemented to deal with a huge size data such as film and the processing time is highly reduced.
A Study on Blind Nonlinear Channel Equalization using Modified Fuzzy C-Means
Park, Sung-Dae ; Han, Soo-Whan ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 10, 2007, Pages 1284~1294
In this paper, a blind nonlinear channel equalization is implemented by using a Modified Fuzzy C-Means (MFCM) algorithm. The proposed MFCM searches the optimal channel output states of a nonlinear channel from the received symbols, based on the Bayesian likelihood fitness function instead of a conventional Euclidean distance measure. Next, the desired channel states of a nonlinear channel are constructed with the elements of estimated channel output states, and placed at the center of a Radial Basis Function (RBF) equalizer to reconstruct transmitted symbols. In the simulations, binary signals are generated at random with Gaussian noise. The performance of the proposed method is compared with that of a hybrid genetic algorithm (GA merged with simulated annealing (SA): GASA), and the relatively high accuracy and fast searching speed are achieved.
A Study on Wireless Home Network Platform for End-to-End Seamless Connection and TCP Performance Improvement
Kim, Byoung-Hoon ; Tak, Sung-Woo ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 10, 2007, Pages 1295~1309
A wireless access point is used for all communications in the infrastructure mode wireless home networking, including communication between mobile nodes in the same service area. When a mobile station in the infrastructure mode wireless home networking moves into a dead zone, the communication between the mobile station and the access point is disconnected. To solve this problem, the existing wireless home network platforms focus on the ad hoc mode wireless home networking. However, the performance of an ad hoc network is poorly decreased when the number of mobile participating in the ad hoc network increases. In addition, although the ad hoc routing technique is necessary to support seamless communication of mobile nodes, the existing routing protocols, such as AODV and DSR, do not consider that a wireless channel state could affect performance significantly. Therefore, we propose a wireless home networking platform based on the ESCOD (End-to-end Seamless multi-hop COnnection based on Dual network mode) technique incorporating the VLR (Virtual Link Routing) scheme that supports end-to-end seamless connections. Extensive experiments show that the proposed wireless home networking platform incorporating the VLR scheme outperforms wireless home networking platforms based on the AODV and the DSR routing protocols respectively in terms of low packet transmission failure rate, fast packet transmission time, high TCP performance, and a wider coverage area of wireless home networks.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 10, 2007, Pages 1310~1318
First of all, What was the modeling technique used to model 3D-Game character? It's a technique developed along several years, by experience... here is the bases Low polygons characters I always work in low polygon for two reasons -You can easily modify a low-poly character, change shapes, make morph for facial expressions etc -You can easily animate a low-poly character When the modeling is finished, Second, In these days, Computer hardware technologies have been bring about that expansion of various 3D digital motion pictured information and development. 3D digital techniques can be used to be diversity in Animation, Virtual-Reality, Movie, Advertisement, Game and so on. Besides, as computing power has been better and higher, the development of 3D Animations and Character are required gradually. In order to satisfy the requirement, Research about how to make 3D Game modeling that represents Character's emotions, sensibilities, is beginning to set its appearance. 3D characters in 3D Games are the core for the communications of emotion and the informations through their facial expression and characteristic motions, Sounds to Users. All concerning about 3D motion and facial expression are getting higher with extension of frequency in use. Therefore, in this study we suggest the effective method of modeling for 3D character and which are based on 2D Graphics.

Sohn, Eun-Ha ; Kim, Jae-Ho ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 10, 2007, Pages 1319~1327
Clothing color for animation characters is very important in expressing a given characters image and characteristics. Consequently, in this paper, we propose a tool that allows an easy and simple selection of clothing color combinations in conjunction with previous color combination image research (color image chart). This tool has two functions, The first allows the user to search what color best fits a given image, and the second calculates which image is closest to the color that user has chosen. This tool was developed so it can be used over the web, and was used to verify whether the color combination for Disney and Dream Works animated characters' clothing has been selected appropriately according to the character's image, as determined through a survey.
Multimedia Contents Streaming Service using the Section Information Retrieval on P2P Network
Lee, Ji-Hyun ; Han, Kwang-Rok ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 10, 2007, Pages 1328~1337
We describe a method for streaming specific section using the section information among peers on P2P network. As peers tend to extract only the part of contents in which they are interested, an indexed file is created based on the section information of multimedia contents and registered in the search server. If a peer requests the streaming of specific parts of the contents to other corresponding peer using the section information that the server returns, the peer streams only separated section of the multimedia contents according to the information. For this process, we implement a function that a peer's PC can play a role as a server, and the peer streams the separated content based on the section information that the server supplies.

Also, advances in the human-machine interface, electronics and embedded system technologies have created the foundation for a dramatic shift in the way the vehicles are diagnosed and maintained. In this paper, we will show the vehicle diagnostic system using the mobile handset based on the OBD-II (On Board Diagnostics version II) protocol. After 2005, OBD-II standard is obligatory for all vehicles selling in Korea. Our research topics are OBD-II protocol converter for the mobile handset and the vehicle diagnostics system on WIPI(Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability) mobile platform, which is the standard mobile platform in Korea.
An Energy-Efficient and Destination-Sequenced Routing Algorithm by a Sink Node in Wireless Sensor Networks
Jung, Sang-Joon ; Chung, Youn-Ky ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 10, 2007, Pages 1347~1355
A sensor network is composed of a large number of tiny devices, scattered and deployed in a specified regions. Each sensing device has processing and wireless communication capabilities, which enable it to gather information from the sensing area and to transfer report messages to a base station. The energy-efficient routing paths are established when the base station requests a query, since each node has several characteristics such as low-power, constrained energy, and limited capacity. The established paths are recovered while minimizing the total transmit energy and maximizing the network lifetime when the paths are broken. In this paper, we propose a routing algorithm that each sensor node reports its adjacent link information to the sink node when a sink node broadcasts a query. The sink node manages the total topology and establishes routing paths. This algorithm has a benefit to find an alternative path by reducing the negotiating messages for establishing paths when the established paths are broken. To reduce the overhead of collection information, each node has a link information before reporting to the sink. Because the node recognizes which nodes are adjacent. The proposed algorithm reduces the number of required messages, because sensor nodes receive and report routing messages for establishment at the beginning of configuring routing paths, since each node keeps topology information to establish a routing path, which is useful to report sensing tasks in monitoring environments.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 10, 2007, Pages 1356~1366
Many personalized Services that provide users with adaptive information according to users' requirements and preferences have been researched and developed. However, existing approaches are difficult to share a user's information among heterogeneous services because these approaches manage users' preferences in a single system. In this paper, we propose a user preference sharing model based on the Semantic Web as a solution to resolve the problem. Our model enables user preferences to be described and shared over service-specific ontologies which are affected by the feature of each service. Our model is analyzed and evaluated with an implementation of the middleware that supports our model. Our approach has the advantage of providing more efficient personalized services than existing approaches because it can describe users' preferences centering around each service and share these information among heterogeneous personalized services.
