Efficient Quantitative Association Rules with Parallel Processing
Lee, Hye-Jung ; Hong, Min ; Park, Doo-Soon ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 8, 2007, Pages 945~957
Quantitative association rules apply a binary association to the data which have the relatively strong quantitative attributions in a large database system. When a domain range of quantitative data which involve the significant meanings for the association is too broad, a domain requires to be divided into a proper interval which satisfies the minimum support for the generation of large interval items. The reliability of formulated rules is enormously influenced by the generation of large interval items. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method to efficiently generate the large interval items. The proposed method does not lose any meaningful intervals compared to other existing methods, provides the accurate large interval items which are close to the minimum support, and minimizes the loss of characteristics of data. In addition, since our method merges data where the frequency of data is high enough, it provides the fast run time compared with other methods for the broad quantitative domain. To verify the superiority of proposed method, the real national census data are used for the performance analysis and a Clunix HPC system is used for the parallel processing.
An Implementation of Sound Enhanced MPEG-1 Audio Decoder on Embedded OS Platform
Hong, Sung-Min ; Park, Kyu-Sik ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 8, 2007, Pages 958~966
In this paper, we implement a sound-enhanced MPEG-1 audio decoder on embedded OS Platform. Low bit rate lossy audio codecs such as MP3, OGG, and AAC for mitigating the problems in storage space and network bandwidth suffer a major common problem such as a loss of high frequency fidelity of audio signal. This high frequency loss will reproduce only a band-limited low-frequency part of audio in the standard CD-quality audio. In order to overcome this problem, we embedded a sound enhancement algorithm into the MPEG-1 audio decoder and then the algorithms optimized according to the characteristic of the MPEG-1 audio layer I, II, III were implemented on an embedded OS platform. From the experimental results with spectrum analysis and listening test, we confirm the superiority of the proposed system compared to the standard MPEG-1 audio decoder.
Segmentation of Objects of Interest for Video Content Analysis
Park, So-Jung ; Kim, Min-Hwan ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 8, 2007, Pages 967~980
Video objects of interest play an important role in representing the video content and are useful for improving the performance of video retrieval and compression. The objects of interest may be a main object in describing contents of a video shot or a core object that a video producer wants to represent in the video shot. We know that any object attracting one's eye much in the video shot may not be an object of interest and a non-moving object may be an object of interest as well as a moving one. However it is not easy to define an object of interest clearly, because procedural description of human interest is difficult. In this paper, a set of four filtering conditions for extracting moving objects of interest is suggested, which is defined by considering variation of location, size, and moving pattern of moving objects in a video shot. Non-moving objects of interest are also defined as another set of four extracting conditions that are related to saliency of color/texture, location, size, and occurrence frequency of static objects in a video shot. On a test with 50 video shots, the segmentation method based on the two sets of conditions could extract the moving and non-moving objects of interest chosen manually on accuracy of 84%.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 8, 2007, Pages 981~996
In this paper, we describe a method that can recognize gestures by obtaining motion features information with principal factor analysis from sequential gesture images. In the algorithm, firstly, a two dimensional silhouette region including human gesture is segmented and then geometric features are extracted from it. Here, global features information which is selected as some meaningful key feature effectively expressing gestures with principal factor analysis is used. Obtained motion history information representing time variation of gestures from extracted feature construct one gesture subspace. Finally, projected model feature value into the gesture space is transformed as specific state symbols by grouping algorithm to be use as input symbols of HMM and input gesture is recognized as one of the model gesture with high probability. Proposed method has achieved higher recognition rate than others using only shape information of human body as in an appearance-based method or extracting features intuitively from complicated gestures, because this algorithm constructs gesture models with feature factors that have high contribution rate using principal factor analysis.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 8, 2007, Pages 997~1003
H.264/AVC enhances inter-frame coding performance adopting new intra and inter mode prediction in inter-frame motion prediction. H.264 encoder provides performance superior to existing standards with the prediction modes. Instead of enhanced performance, however, both predictions increase complexity of encoder and demand a lot of coding time. This paper proposes a method using local statistics of resultant intra mode, my and mode map to predict inter mode. There are relationship between intra and inter mode, and we can predict inter mode using neighboring macroblocks' resultant mode and motion vector according to the contents of frame. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm reduces encoding time by 31% on average with a negligible loss of PSNR and bitrate.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 8, 2007, Pages 1004~1016
In this paper we proposed a Weight-Update-Control Adaptive Noise Canceller which improves speech when environmental noise is stationary and it is hard to acquire a reference signal. Adaptive Noise Canceller(ANC) needs a reference signal, but it is not easy to measure pure noise without voice for reference in factory. Because there are mixed various mechanical noise and workers' voice. Therefore ANC is not suitable to reduce background noise. So we proposed the method that uses an arbitrary constant as an input signal and inputs microphone signal to the reference signal. The noise is eliminated using updated weights in non-speech range. In speech range the weight is fixed and the modified voice is acquired then voice is restored through transversal filter. The proposed method is based on facts that the factory noise is stationary and the noise is not changed in short conversation range. As a result of simulation using MATLAB, we confirmed that the proposed method is effective for reducing factory noise and has high signal to noise ratio(SNR).
A Video Stream Retrieval System based on Trend Vectors
Lee, Seok-Lyong ; Chun, Seok-Ju ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 8, 2007, Pages 1017~1028
In this paper we propose an effective method to represent, store, and retrieve video streams efficiently from a video database. We extract features from each video frame, normalize the feature values, and represent them as values in the range [0,1]. In this way a video frame with f features can be represented by a point in the f-dimensional space
, and thus the video stream is represented by a trail of points in the multidimensional space. The video stream is partitioned into video segments based on camera shots, each of which is represented by a trend vector which encapsulates the moving trend of points in a segment. The video stream query is processed depending on the comparison of those trend vectors. We examine our method using a collection of video streams that are composed of sports, news, documentary, and educational videos. Experimental results show that our trend vector representation reduces a reconstruction error remarkably (average 37%) and the retrieval using a trend vector achieves the high precision (average 2.1 times) while maintaining the similar response time and recall rate as existing methods.

A smart card based on the existing Java card platform executes and installs an application only when the power is supplied for a minute. And preparing for unexpected power outrage, the execution state of an application and all the data that are modified during execution are saved in the heap. This kind of frequent data update of an EEPROM data is a main cause of reducing the life-cycle of a smart card. This is because the smart card has been developed not considering the current situation that the power is always supplied, and by this time it has continuously kept its old architecture. This paper explains the high performance Java card system free power restriction. The system improves not only application saving mechanism, but memory architecture. In special, we deploy RAM for running an applet, as well as EEPROM for downloading an application. Through proposed mechanism, we can find out performance evaluation that the creation speed of an applet and the execution speed of a method increase up to 58% and 33% respectively.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 8, 2007, Pages 1039~1051
In this paper, a new lip synchronization control method is proposed to achieve very low delay in the video communication. The lip control is so much vital in video communication as delay reduction. In a general way, to control the lip synchronization, both the playtime and capture time calculated from RTP time stamp are used. RTP timestamp is created by stream sender and sent to the receiver along the stream. It is extracted from the received packet by stream receiver to calculate playtime and capture time. In this paper, we propose the method of searching most adjacent corresponding frame of the audio signal, which is assumed to be played with uniform speed. Encoding buffer of stream sender is removed to reduce the buffering delay. Besides, decoder buffer of receiver, which is used to correct the cracked packet, is resulted to process only 3 frames. These mechanisms enable us to achieve ultra low delay less than 100 ms, which is essential to video communication. Through simulations, the proposed method shows below the 100 ms delay and controlled the lip synchronization between audio and video.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 8, 2007, Pages 1052~1059
Network security system used in the large scale network composes individual security system which protects only own domain. Problems of individual security system are not to protect the backbone network and to be hard to cope with in real-time. In this paper we proposed a security system which includes security function at the router, and the access point, which exist at the backbone network, to solve the problems. This security system sends the alert messages to an integrated security management system after detecting intrusions. The integrated security management system releases confrontation plan to each suity system. Thus the systematic and immediate confrontation is possible. We analyzed function verification and efficiency by using the security system and the integrated security management system suggested in this paper. We confirmed this integrated security management system has a possibility of a systematic and immediate confrontation.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 8, 2007, Pages 1060~1067
We need various methods to develop MMORPG that is game genre which many users use among various game genre using Internet. Specially, to heighten efficiency of distributing work, Object-oriented language such as C++ is used and we need design techniques that can take advantage of enough object-oriented concept when making large-scale game. There is various pattern that can apply in software breakup design in GoF's design pattern for these design techniques. If you apply Observer pattern to Party System Design for forming community between game users, you can easily add new class and maintain system later. Party Play is one of the important system that is used to form game users' community in MMORPG games. The main point that must be considered in Party-Play-System is to divide evenly experience value and acquisition that is got by Party-Play among users according to each user's level. To implement Party Play System that consider maintenance of system, in this paper, we propose a method using GoF's Observer-Pattern, showing you that proposed method which has advantage to dynamic memory allocation and to virtual method call can be used usefully to change object to real time at program run and to add new class and to maintain system new.
Extraction and Recognition of Concrete Slab Surface Cracks using ART2-based RBF Network
Kim, Kwang-Baek ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 8, 2007, Pages 1068~1077
This paper proposes a method that extracts characteristics of cracks such as length, thickness and direction from a concrete slab surface image with image processing techniques. These techniques extract the cracks from the concrete surface image in variable conditions including bad image conditions) using the ART2-based RBF network to recognize the dominant directions -45 degree, 45 degree, horizontal and vertical) of the extracted cracks from the automatically calculated specifications like the lengths, directions and widths of the cracks. Our proposed extraction algorithms and analysis of the concrete cracks used a Robert operation to emphasize the cracks, and a Multiple operation to increase the difference in brightness between the cracks and background. After these treatments, the cracks can be extracted from the image by using an iterated binarization technique. Noise reduction techniques are used three separate times on this binarized image, and the specifications of the cracks are extracted form this noiseless image. The dominant directions can be recognized by using the ART2-based RBF network. In this method, the ART2 is used between the input layer and the middle layer to learn, and the Delta learning method is used between the middle layer and the output layer. The experiments using real concrete images showed that the cracks were effectively extracted, and the Proposed ART2-based RBF network effectively recognized the directions of the extracted cracks.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 10, issue 8, 2007, Pages 1078~1091
This paper proposes the system to manage profiles effectively that are necessary for content adaptation services. The proposed profiles for providing content adaptation services are used in the various services. However, currently, there are lack of the interoperability in profiles due to the different configuration, which is affected by different services. The service providers also spend a lot of operating costs by operating profiles respectively. To solve theses problems, the system which can integrate and manage the various kinds of the profiles is necessary. Based on profile services architecture and the previous profile research to the necessary functions for the proposed integrated management system of profile are derived. The proposed integrated management system of profile supports also the functions such as receiving, processing, saying, managing, providing and supports profiles that are made of RDF form and comply with the CC/PP specification. The metadata constitution technique and dynamic technique for effective content adaptation also are applied. As a result of performance evaluation the proposed techniques improve the performance 4% compared with the previous techniques.
