Implementation and Performance Evaluation of Database Encryption for Academic Affairs System

Database encryption is one of the important mechanisms for prohibiting internal malicious users and outside hackers from utilizing data. Frequent occurrences of encryption and decryption cause degradation of database performance so that many factors should be considered in implementing encryption system. In this paper, we propose an architecture of database encryption system and data encryption module. In addition we suggest extended SQL in order to manage data encryption and decryption. In implementing database encryption system, we adopt ARIA encryption algorithm which is proved to be the most fast one among Korea standardized encryption algorithm. We use an single key for each database in encrypting data rather than using several keys in order to improve performance. Research over performance evaluation of database encryption system is rare up to now. Based on our implemented system, we provide performance evaluation results over various H/W platforms and compare performance differences between plain text and encrypted data.
An Eefficient ROI Code Block Discrimination Algorithm for Dynamic ROI Coding

This paper proposes an efficient ROI code block discrimination algorithm for dynamic ROI coding. The proposed algorithm calculates the girth of the ROI only with some mask information in consideration of the characteristics of the shape of the ROI for reducing a ROI code block discrimination time, and this proposed algorithm discriminates whether there is a ROI code block by the girth and the critical value of the ROI. Also, this discrimination algorithm is capable of treating the coefficients of the background within a ROI code block preferentially and controlling a loss by controlling the threshold value of the ROI. In order to demonstrate the utility of the proposed method, this paper conducted a comparative experiment of the proposed method with the existing methods. As a result of this experiment, it was confirmed that the proposed method was superior to the conventional methods in terms of quality and speed.
Image Retrieval using Spatial Information and Color Changing Ratio

In this paper, we propose a image retrieval algorithm using spatial information and color changing ratio. The proposed method extracts color regions from images by threshold
to extract spatial information. During this process, we count extracted color regions and color changing, and these values are used to obtain color changing ratio. Image similarity between images is measured by extracted spatial information. Additively, color changing ratio makes images that has similar color changing ratio to be more higher retrieval rank. In our experiment using various natural images, we demonstrate a proposed method shows better performance than other common retrieval methods using color informations.
A System for Recognizing Sunglasses and a Mask of an ATM User

This paper presents a system for recognizing sunglasses and a mask of an ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) user. The proposed system extracts firstly facial contour, then from this extraction results it estimates the regions of eyes and mouth. Finally, it recognizes sunglasses and a mouth using Histogram Indexing based on those regions. We adopt a face shape model to be able to extract facial contour and to estimate the regions of eyes and mouth when those regions are occluded by sunglasses and a mask. To improve the fitting accuracy of the shame model, we adopt 2-step face detection method and conduct fitting several times by varying the initial position of the model instance. To achieve a good performance of the face detection method based on a background model, we enable the system to automatically update the background model. In experiment, we present some experiments on setting parameters of the system with images taken from in our laboratory, and demonstrate the results of recognizing sunglasses and a mask.
A Study on G-Condition Examination Scheme to Improve the Heuristics for Grade Of Services Steiner Minimum Tree Problem

This paper is on the enhancement of our heuristics for Grade Of Services Steiner Minimum Tree (GOSST) problem that can apply to the design of communication networks offering manifold grade of services in multimedia communication area. GOSST problem known as one of NP-Hard problems asks for a network topology meeting the G-Condition with minimum construction cost. In our prior researches, we proposed some heuristics for the problem. In this paper, we suggest a strategy of G-Condition scrutiny sequence to fortify our previous heuristics. In the experiment results, the ameliorated achieves 71.9% economy of execution times, 28.9% of required Steiner points and 1.1% of network construction costs.
Performance Improvement of Fingerprint Verification using Image Matching

Fingerprint verification method based on minutiae has been widely used for its speed and size stemming from utilizing only a few data, but it is vulnerable to some errors caused by the false minutiae extractions. A number of suggestions have been made to correct these problems. However, because it is very difficult to avoid all the external factors, such as noises that occur when fingerprints are collected, and all the internal factors that occur during the process of them, there is a limit in minimizing errors by improving the whole process. On the other hand, a fingerprint verification method based on images yields fewer errors because it makes direct comparison between images not using minutiae. Image-based fingerprint verification method has its limitations in aligning images with accuracy. Therefore, this paper proposes a new methodology to improve the performance utilizing both image-based and minutiae-based verification methods effectively. As the result of experimenting with both images and minutiae, the false accept rate and the false reject rate have been improved from 2.7% to 0.8% and from 6.5% to 5.5%, respectively.
Layered Object and Script Language Model for Avatar Behavior Scenario Generation

A script language, which represents and controls avatar behaviors in a natural language style, is especially remarkable, because it can provide a fast and easy way to develop an animation scenario script. However, the studies that consider avatar behavior interactions with various virtual objects and intuitive interface techniques to design scenario script have been lack. Therefore, we proposed a context-based avatar-object behavior model and layered script language. The model defines context-based elements to solve ambiguity problems that occur in abstract behavior interface and it provides user interface to control avatar in the object-based approach. Also, the proposed avatar behavior script language consisted of a layered structure that represents domain user interface, motion sequence, and implement environment information at each level. Using the proposed methods, the user can conveniently and quickly design an avatar-object behavior scenario script.
Agent-Based Game Platform with Cascade-Fuzzy System Strategy Module

As hardware performance rises, game users demand higher computer graphic, more convenient UI(User Interface), faster network, and smarter AI(Artificial Intelligence). At this time, however, AI development is accomplished by a co-development team or only one developer. For that reason, it's hard to verify that AI performance and basic game AI technology is lacking for developing high-level AI. Searching the merits and demerits of existing game AI platforms, we investigate main points to consider when designing game AI platforms in this paper. From this we suggest Darwin, a game platform, based on agent that developers embody AI easily and capable of proposing AI test with module that makes them find strategic position. And then evaluate achievement results through making agent used strategic module that Darwin offers.
An Improvement Method of Indoor Rendering Speed Using BSP and PVS Algorithms

In this paper, we present an efficient indoor rendering method using BSP(Binary Space Partitioning) and PVS(Potentially Visible Space) algorithms. The proposed method displays efficiently the objects by including the objects in the process of separating the number of BSP area, by jointly using BSP and PVS algorithms. Also, the screen which is checked by PVS from player's location is displayed. From the simulation, we can see that the proposed method improves the rendering speed because of processing the objects with the edges of BSP and PVS.
A Comparative Study for Digital Animation Production using Database

The introduction of the digital media changed 21 century at time of database paradigm and the database paradigm called forth a big change in production process and industry of the animation. One of the characteristics of animation is that it has to newly produce all of the images. But due to the introduction of digital technology, the original copy of those images produced for animation can be saved. Also, those permanently saved data can easily produce new images through modification and composition. Therefore, this assignment will be focused on the usage of digital base and how it has made a difference in animation creative skills. In order to achieve the goal, I will be reviewing some examples and discuss about the future of animation for the next generation.
Web Service Migration based on Contexts

It is difficult to provide Web services on a mobile environment because of the intermittent disconnection of a wireless network and the frequent change of context information. To resolve this, Web services must be migrate to devices, which can provide services to users seamlessly. However, researches on hosting, migrating, and replicating Web services on mobile devices are still in an early stage. This paper presents a lightweight Web service framework and an efficient method for establishing a policy of migrating Web services. Based on the WS-Policy standard, the proposed method defines a policy schema, which provides constructs for describing various kinds of contextual information. Specifically, the schema is designed to be extensible enough for different service providers to use different vocabularies to describe their policies. To show the validity, the proposed method for establishing a migration policy has been applied to our mobile Web services framework, resulting in a seamless provisioning of services.
A Hybrid Mobile Business Card Production and Management System

Recently, as the increase in interaction between the person and the person, the people plentifully use the business card to exchange personal information. So, the people have many business cards. Thus, the people are liable to lose the business cards and finding a wanted business card is very difficult in the huge business cards in offline. And, the people think the business card is a way, which can express individuality. So, the people want to have the business card, which has individuality. Thus, this paper proposes the card system, which is satisfied to solve many problems of the card system in offline and express individuality. The proposed business card system can produce various business cards and puts contents such as video, photo, voice into business cards via mobile devices in anywhere, anytime. Also, this business card system follows the vCard format, which is a file format standard for personal data interchange. Finally, we provide with content-based business card retrieval using video and photo inserted into business cards. Thus, this paper proposes the hybrid business card system, which is satisfied to produce business cards expressed individuality and follows the vCard format.
