Implementation of Web Service based Matchmaker for Distributed Visual Media Retrieval

With the rapid increase of Web Service sites, one emerging problem is how to find the most appropriate Services from the massive number of similar Web Services. A matchmaker is an agent system, which find the best Service providers for the given queries. In this paper, we propose a matchmaker for the distributed visual media retrieval framework, called HERMES, and describe how to rank the resulting Services based on the QoS elements related with visual media Services. To show the usefulness and correctness of the proposed schemes, some experimental results are also shown.
Video Event Detection according to Generating of Semantic Unit based on Moving Object

Nowadays, many investigators are studying various methodologies concerning event expression for semantic retrieval of video data. However, most of the parts are still using annotation based retrieval that is defined into annotation of each data and content based retrieval using low-level features. So, we propose a method of creation of the motion unit and extracting event through the unit for the more semantic retrieval than existing methods. First, we classify motions by event unit. Second, we define semantic unit about classified motion of object. For using these to event extraction, we create rules that are able to match the low-level features, from which we are able to retrieve semantic event as a unit of video shot. For the evaluation of availability, we execute an experiment of extraction of semantic event in video image and get approximately 80% precision rate.
Image Inpainting by Band Matching, Seamless Cloning and Area Sub-Division

We propose a novel image inpainting method composed of two parts: band matching and seamless cloning. In band matching, a band enclosing the boundary of a missing region is compared to those from the other parts of the image. The inner area of the minimum difference band is then copied to the missing region. Even though this band matching results in successful inpainting in many practical applications, brightness discontinuity (a seam) may appear between the filled missing region and its neighborhood. We apply seamless cloning to remove such discontinuity between the two regions. However, since this basic method using one patch may not deal with cases where there are abrupt changes of color or brightness along the boundary, we furthermore devise one more step: target sub-division. The target area is subdivided into small sub-areas, and the band matching and seamless cloning are applied to each of them. The multiple results from the sub-division are then ordered according to inpainting quality, which is measured based on the edge map or discontinuity map along the boundary band.
A Three-Step Mode Selection Algorithm for Fast Encoding in H.264/AVC

The H.264/AVC provides gains in compression efficiency of up to 50% over a wide range of bit rates and video resolutions compared to previous standards. However, to achieve such high coding efficiency, the complexity of H.264/AVC encoder is also increased drastically than previous ones, mainly because of mode decision. In this paper, we propose a three-step mode decision algorithm for fast encoding in H.264/AVC. In the first step, we select skip mode or inter mode by considering the temporal correlation and spatial correlation. In the second step, if the result of the first step is INTER mode, we select one group between two groups for final mode. In the third step, we select final mode by exploiting the pixel values of error macroblock or the modes of adjacent macroblocks. Simulations show that the proposed method reduces the encoding time by 42% on average without any significant PSNR losses.
Image Mixing in Multiview 3 Dimensional Imaging Systems

A 2 dimensional quality function for quantifying the quality of images observed at viewing regions in contact-type multiview 3 dimensional imaging systems is devised and its effectiveness is verified experimentally. The function allows calculating the locations of viewing regions for patched images of any number of different view images. The images observed at the calculated regions reveal that different parts of the display panel of the system project different view images and match with the function's prediction.
The Location Estimation Method through Snooping Node for Indoor Environment

The location estimation using sensor network has been considerably researched. The methods taking the differences of the forms of location estimation between indoors and outdoors into consideration have been studied. While it is possible for outdoor location to be estimated because outdoor location estimation has a consistent distribution during unit period through the value of RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indication) on outdoor location estimation, Indoor location estimation is difficult since multi-path and interference indoors are higher than those outdoors and indoor location estimation can be affected by other factors. In this paper, we revise the information of RSSI changed by multi-path and interference through the Moving Average method and K-means algorithm and propose the method of estimation for the value of RSSI with reliability in the group of signals received during unit period. We also suggest the way to put some weights on fixed nodes in network using a snooping node on location estimation and then evaluate the efficiency of location awareness as compared with the existing method by implementing proposed method on system through the reconfiguration of network.
Estimation of TCP Throughput Fairness Ratio under Various Background Traffic

TCP packets occupy over 90% of current Internet traffic thus understanding of TCP throughput is crucial to understand Internet. Under the TCP congestion regime, heterogeneous flows, i.e., flows with different round-trip times (RTTs), that share the same bottleneck link will not attain equal portions of the available bandwidth. In fact, according to the TCP friendly formula, the throughput ratio of two flows is inversely proportional to the ratio of their RTTs. It has also been shown that TCP's unfairness to flows with longer RTTs is accentuated under loss synchronization. In this paper, we show that, injecting bursty background traffic may actually lead to new type of synchronization and result in unfairness to foreground TCP flows with longer RTTs. We propose three different metrics to characterize traffic burstiness and show that these metrics are reliable predictors of TCP unfairness.
The Expression of Styles for the Ground Image of Animation

Animation are consist of consecutive various images, and there are figure and ground. The value of figure image as character in animation consider more significant than the background image, it can be detected many literature reviews on that subject. It, however, is also a critical element for completing animation, in reality, it is not found many academical achievements on this subject. The background images imply the information of environment and atmosphere, and elucidates where the story happen, therefore character move, talk and express themselves there. In terms of academic endeavour to extend the knowledge on animation, this paper is one of vital researches to be suggest on background image study. The main purpose of this study is to classify the background images in the ways of three categories such as painting concepts of concrete, semi-abstract, and abstract to camera concept of deep-focus, out-focus, and distortion. It is to instigate for the study of background images, in the practical view. And it will be utilizing the basic theories of cognitive psychology, painting and camera techniques, in the ways of It is analysed to frequency of use, reality, amount of information, perspective, and role of background image. This study is to provide a basic theory of visual classification on background image for practicing animations and researching on this subject.
A Design and Implementation of a Context-Aware Framework for Mobile Navigation Services

As cellular network technologies continue to evolve, various network standards coexist in most CDMA-based cellular networks. This means that mobile device users access mobile services over different network bandwidths according to the users' positions or the mobile devices' network access capabilities. Such differences of network bandwidths cause big differences in service response times. To address this problem, we present a framework called CANS (Context-Aware framework for mobile Navigation Services), which takes into account the user's network profile to adapt the contents for CDRG(Centrally Determined Route Guidance) navigation services for cellular phones. To the best of the authors' knowledge, CANS is the first context-aware framework to make mobile navigation services more feasible. The experimental results under commercial CDMA network show that CANS is able to provide similar service response times regardless of type of wireless network to which users connect by adapting the contents to network bandwidths.
Client-Centered Mobile Augmented Reality System for Virtual Building Simulation

Recently augmented reality technology has been researched to view the virtual shape of buildings before construction or cultural heritages under recovery. Those researches used special devices or markers that are not applicable in long distanced outdoor environment. Also the server had to compute a lot of transformations for the location changes of virtual objects. This paper proposed a mobile augmented reality system that uses GPS and accelerometer sensors in order to compute the virtual object's locations without using markers. The server determines the position and orientation by comparing the GPS data obtained from the client with the predefined 3D object informations in the server. If the server sends the virtual object informations such as the position, orientation and matching information, then the client matches the virtual object on the screen of mobile camera phone. In addition, the client computes the transformations of location change detected by the accelerometer derived from the user's movement without additional connection to the server.
The Design of Component Repository Management System for Semantic Web

According to the development of information & web technology and the amount of information increases, there have been numerous problems exposed. Although, software engineers try to overcome the limitations by using software agent and web service, there hasn't been satisfactory result in the paradigm of current software agent being a provider to the user's demand. Moreover, the latest configuration of software development is based on CBD (Component Based Development). However, to construct new component using CBD costs great deal of expenses and therefore, a new model which can acquirecomponent information on the web promptly and accurately with low expenses is required. In this paper, the repository management system which acquires and manages on the Semantic web is designed and compare them to the existing component repository management and present its analysis result. In addition, to overcome the limitations of existing component repository system; low accuracy of search result, restrictive search vocabulary and faulty information, the specific plan is presented to perform a knowledge search for the component.
The Development of a Input Data Automatic Generation System for the Storm Management Simulation based on UIS

Recently, natural disasters like flooding damages have frequently occurred as to typhoons and local downpours affected by the climate changes. Many researches have actively been studied in analysing runoff models, the verification of their parameters, and the inflow on surfaces in order to lessen the damages. However, much time and effort needs in generating input files of the models in most current researches. Therefore, in this paper we develop a system for generating a simulation input data automatically. This system is connected to the EPA-SWMM based on the spatial data in the UIS systems and consists the simulation module for analysing urban flooding and the SWMM simulator module. Also, we construct a prototype using a range of regular inundation to generate a simulation input file. This system gives advantages showing inundation areas based on the map viewer as well as lessening errors of input data and simulation time.
A Feature Generation Method for Multimedia Recommendation System

Multimedia recommendation systems analyze user preferences and recommend items(multimedia contents) to a user by predicting the user's preference for those items. Among various kinds of recommendation methods, collaborative filtering(CF) has been widely used and successfully applied to practical applications. However, collaborative filtering has two inherent problems: data sparseness and the cold-start problems. If there are few known preferences for a user, it is difficult to find many similar users, and therefore the performance of recommendation is degraded. This problem is more serious when a new user is first using the system. In this paper, we propose a method of generating additional feature of users and items into CF to overcome the difficulties caused by sparseness and improve the accuracy of recommendation. In our method, we first generate additional features by using the probability distribution of feature values, then recommend items by applying collaborative filtering on the modified data to include additional features. Several experimental results that show the effectiveness of the proposed method are also presented.
A Study on the Enterprise Application Framework for Developing Efficient RFID Applications

The information flow through RFID techniques such as, standardized EPC and EPCglobal network suggests new change in the method of cooperating and sharing information in the supply chain. Common function should be prepared for communication, security techniques, and business processes based on the EPCglobal standard to introduce efficient RFID techniques. And the standard architecture which can deal with the RFID environment flexibly is quite necessary. Therefore, this paper suggests Enterprise Application Framework (EAF) for developing efficient and secure RFID applications. EAF offers essential services to develop RFID enterprise systems : a communication environment which uses various standard communication protocols, a security function based on PKI, and abstract business services for flexible introduction of RFID businesses. It simplifies the RFID business integration, minimizes the development complexity, and thus EAF is expected to reduce the cost of RFID application development. EAF guarantees constructing secure RFID applications due to PKI-based security mechanism.
