An Assignment Method of Multidimensional Type Inheritance Indexes for XML Query Processing
Lee, Jong-Hak ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 1, 2009, Pages 1~15
This paper presents an assignment method of the multidimensional type inheritance indexes (MD-TIXs) to support the processing of XML queries in XML databases. MD-TIX uses a multidimensional index structure for efficiently supporting nested predicates that involve both nested element and type inheritance hierarchies. In this paper, we have analyzed the strategy of the query processing by using the MD-TIXs, and presented an assignment method of the MD-TIXs in the framework of complex queries, containing conjunctions of nested predicates, each one involving an Xpath having target types or domain types substitution. We first consider MD-TIX operations caused by updating of XML data-bases, and the use of the MD-TIXs in the case of a query containing a single nested predicate. And then, we consider the assignments of the MD-TIXs in the framework of more general queries containing nested predicates over overlapping paths that have common subpaths.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 1, 2009, Pages 16~25
In the car environment that the first priority is a safety problem, the large vocabulary isolated word recognition system with POI domain is required as the optimal HMI technique. For the telematics terminal with a highly limited processing time and memory capacity, it is impossible to process more than 100,000 words in the terminal by the general speech recognition methods. Therefore, we proposed phoneme recognizer using the phonetic GMM and also PDM Levenshtein distance with multi-layer architecture for the POI recognition of telematics terminal. By the proposed methods, we obtained high performance in the telematics terminal with low speed processing and small memory capacity. we obtained the recognition rate of maximum 94.8% in indoor environment and of maximum 92.4% in the car navigation environments.

Kim, Soo-Yang ; Bae, Sung-Ha ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 1, 2009, Pages 26~30
We propose an adaptive Recursive Least Rank(RLR) L-filter which uses an L-estimator in order statistics and is based on rank estimate in robust statistics. The proposed RLR L-filter is a non-linear adaptive filter using non-linear adaptive algorithm and adapts itself to optimal filter in the sense of least dispersion measure of errors with non-homogeneous step size. Therefore the filter may be suitable for applications when the transmission channel is nonlinear channels such as Gaussian noise or impulsive noise, or when the signal is non-stationary such as image signal.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 1, 2009, Pages 31~40
Call centers have become the prevalent contact points between companies and their customers. By virtue of recent advances in communication technology, the number and size of call centers have grown dramatically. As a large portion of the operating costs are related to the labor costs, efficient design and workforce staffing are crucial for the economic success of call centers. Therefore it is very important to determine the adequate number of agents. In this context, the workforce staffing level can be modeled as mathematical optimization problem using queueing theory. In this paper, we deal with an approximate analysis of an N-design call center with two finite queues and two types of reneging customers by using the state decomposition method. We also represent some numerical examples and show the impact of the system parameters on the performance measures of the call center.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 1, 2009, Pages 41~49
Smart Card is currently more popular in mobile communication, and smart card with java card platform becomes a standard choice. Java card has a problem that it gets lost working data when power is off. Transaction is the idea to solve a problem of data loss, but it accepts only one transaction process, and other transaction process need to hold until the current working transaction is finished. This might be a factor to drop the Java card's performance. In this paper, we define a rule of dual-lock which can run transaction at multiple transaction buffer as a method for a better java card performance, and we suggest this rule to improve a capability of transaction process. From this research, we are able to improve the data stability, reduce the java card transaction delay time, and get a higher processing speed of java card.
Feature Extraction Algorithm from Polygonal Model using Implicit Surface Fitting
Kim, Soo-Kyun ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 1, 2009, Pages 50~57
This paper proposes a extraction of feature lines on a polygonal model using local implicit surface fitting technique. To extract feature lines on a polygonal model, the previous technique addressed to compute the curvature and their derivatives at mesh vertices via global implicit surface fitting. It needs a user-specified precision parameter for finding an accurate projection of the mesh vertices onto an approximating implicit surface and requires high-time consumption. But we use a local implicit surface fitting technique to estimate the local differential information near a vertex by means of an approximating surface. Feature vertices are easily detected as zero-crossings, and can then be connected along the direction of principal curvature. Our method, demonstrated on several large polygonal models, produces a good fit which leads to improved visualization.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 1, 2009, Pages 58~68
With the rapid development of computer hardware and invention of various game-related technologies, the quality of games has been greatly improved and the genres of games have been diversified. Yet, in comparison, puzzle games have held to the past simple way of games, which has only led to a depression of the puzzle game market. This paper is the first attempt to overcome limits of the current puzzle games, by finding a breakthrough in three-dimensional puzzle games. In order to describe a realistic puzzle assembly in a three-dimensional puzzle game, this paper aimed to design a structure assembly technique made up of three steps that used a proper process to handle structure suitable to assembly, an elaborate way of collisions between individual objects and a physical structure. Through this technique, we intend to show in a simple experiment that it is possible to minimize the calculation cost in the assembly process and at the same time to achieve an elaborate puzzle assembly between structures.

Chung, Won-Ho ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 1, 2009, Pages 69~84
In this paper, a real-time web-casting framework for many individuals or small organizations imploring internet broadcasting, is designed and implemented. It is the purpose of the proposed framework that any individual can easily construct his own broadcast station if he has minimum facility for the content transmission to the framework. This type of system should have a flexible architecture to be applicable in wide variation of operational environment. Since the proposed framework follows a component-based hierarchical structure consisting of 3 types of components, it can effectively cope with change of internal or external operational environment by simple modification of the associated component with the change. Also, various types of target application systems in the aspects of cost and performance can be constructed in accordance with how to associate upper layer components with hardware platforms. A real prototype system based on the proposed framework is implemented, and then the response delay time is measured under varying number of content productions and content receivers. The results show that the response delay time follows M/M/1 model, which is one of the well-known performance models, and the implemented system may accommodate from 16 to 20 productions.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 1, 2009, Pages 85~96
Due to the bitter competition in markets and the need changes of consumers, customer relationship management(CRM) plays a key role in determining management strategies in companies. In addition, due to the advance of Ubiquitous environment, new applications are developed in the CRM arena. Since traditional data gathering methods can invade people's privacy and cause inaccurate data, new methods are required. In this paper, we propose an RFID-based automatic analytical information generation system for a ubiquitous CRM. Firstly, we develop an RFID middleware. And then, we store the data acquired from the middleware into a database. Finally, we analyze the data automatically and convert the data into meaningful information. By applying our system to an exhibition hall, automatically generated analytical information are given to companies and customers. The proposed system can make many companies meet their customers' needs in a ubiquitous way and can give them more accurate data by using clustering, associating, sequencing when they make a decision for their successful marketing.

WLAN(wireless local area network)-based positioning is the most attractive because it does not require any special equipments dedicated for positioning even though it is less accurate than the other strategies. Applying our WLAN-based decision tree method for indoor positioning, we obtained pedestrian's tracks, and performed stochastic confidence tests on the tracks in order to validate them.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 1, 2009, Pages 107~121
First reason for generation of standby power is because starting voltage must pass through from the source of electricity to IC. The second reason is due to current when IC is in operation. Purpose of this abstract is on structures of simple modules that automatically switch on or off through analysis of state on standby power and analysis of cutoff point patterns as well as application of algorithms. To achieve this, this paper is based on analysis of electric signals and modeling. Also, on/off cutoff criteria has been established for reduction of standby power. To find on/off cutoff point, that is executed algorithm of similar group and leading pattern group generation in the standby power state. Therefore, the algorithm was defined as an important parameter of the subtraction value of calculated between
SCS, and the median value of sampling coefficient per second from a wall outlet.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 1, 2009, Pages 122~129
Incorporating proprietary existing it solutions like legacy systems or vendor specific with new technologies is an expensive and time consuming task. Such situations take place due to the lack of ability of proprietary software to cooperate with other parties or to cooperation only with specific vendor products. Such a situation is undesirable and causes a prolonged adaptation period for new applications. This thesis is to show the new approach to creation of Internet applications in Service Oriented Architecture through loose coupling, introduces fare more flexibility into a system composed of connected applications. This approach allows one to integrate through XML based Web Service and reuse a number of arbitrary services available over the Internet in a complex processes specified as a workflow model.

Occlusion force measuring and analysis is a diagnostic method of tooth dynamics through the related force analysis. In this paper, we design and implement a series of occlusion force measuring software and evaluate its utility as a base system for a new occlusion force measure and analysis system development. For the reason, we developed a group of tools to measure the normal and abnormal occlusion force. Firstly, we have visualized the occlusion force distribution with quantitative figures. The center of force (COF) variation was visualized the path of marker according to teeth dynamics and the distribution of occlusion forces in 14 tooth regions. Secondly, we have implemented a left and right tooth force balance measurement ratio tool to estimate a specific tooth region force. Furthermore, the measured occlusion force variation recorded in the software each 0.5 second. As the result of the physical examination by the accessed hardware of sensor sheet method, we confirmed the distribution and balance of forces effectively.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 1, 2009, Pages 156~167
Computing environment is evolving rapidly to ubiquitous environment. It thus makes people access and utilize any resource on the move and makes location of objects rise to the rank of the most important information. However provision of location information is too restrictive in small environments such as a home or building. In this paper we propose a home entertainment system which supports user mobility based on sensor networks and distributed devices. The proposed system estimates a user location by using signal strength received from Bluetooth ad-hoc networks. This estimated location information can tell which device a user can take advantage of while moving. In order to prove possibility of user mobility support, the system is implemented on our UPnP A/V framework home entertainment system to provide content streaming and the result shows that a provision of service for mobile users could be possible in small ubiquitous computing environments.
