A Photo Viewing Interface in a Ubiquitous Display Environment

In a ubiquitous computing environment, people more and more become to use multiple displays. When using such ubiquitous displays, it is needed for users to seamlessly interact with the displays for a certain content. In this paper, we propose a seamless interface that allows users to see photos across multiple displays. Many photos can be displayed on a screen at the same time because they are shown in 3D space. And a group of photos is represented using a cube metaphor. A user can manipulate photos directly using a touch screen and also see the photos continuously using PDAs when the user moves to other places. In addition, the user can interact with the photos seamlessly using another display. The developed system was designed to interact according to user's movements and not to draw user's attention too much as a kind of ambient display. Using RFID and ultrasonic sensors it recognizes a user and the user's proximity to the display, and then automatically determines the screen image and the user interface accordingly.
Cache Sensitive T-tree Main Memory Index for Range Query Search

Recently, advances in speed of the CPU have for out-paced advances in memory speed. Main-memory access is increasingly a performance bottleneck for main-memory database systems. To reduce memory access speed, cache memory have incorporated in the memory subsystem. However cache memories can reduce the memory speed only when the requested data is found in the cache. We propose a new cache sensitive T-tree index structure called as
-tree for range query search. The
-tree reduces the number of cache miss occurrences by loading the reduced internal nodes that do not have index entries. And it supports the sequential access of index entries for range query by connecting adjacent terminal nodes and internal index nodes. For performance evaluation, we have developed a cost model, and compared our
-tree with existing CST-tree, that is the conventional cache sensitive T-tree, and
-tree, that is conventional the range query search T -tree, by using the cost model. The results indicate that cache miss occurrence of
-tree is decreased by 20~30% over that of CST-tree in a single value search, and it is decreased by 10~20% over that of
-tree in a range query search.
Data Cude Index to Support Integrated Multi-dimensional Concept Hierarchies in Spatial Data Warehouse

Most decision support functions of spatial data warehouse rely on the OLAP operations upon a spatial cube. Meanwhile, higher performance is always guaranteed by indexing the cube, which stores huge amount of pre-aggregated information. Hierarchical Dwarf was proposed as a solution, which can be taken as an extension of the Dwarf, a compressed index for cube structures. However, it does not consider the spatial dimension and even aggregates incorrectly if there are redundant values at the lower levels. OLAP-favored Searching was proposed as a spatial hierarchy based OLAP operation, which employs the advantages of R-tree. Although it supports aggregating functions well against specified areas, it ignores the operations on the spatial dimensions. In this paper, an indexing approach, which aims at utilizing the concept hierarchy of the spatial cube for decision support, is proposed. The index consists of concept hierarchy trees of all dimensions, which are linked according to the tuples stored in the fact table. It saves storage cost by preventing identical trees from being created redundantly. Also, it reduces the OLAP operation cost by integrating the spatial and aspatial dimensions in the virtual concept hierarchy.
A study on the Digital Format Registry for digital objects preservation in Korea

This paper propose the "Digital Format Registry(DFR)" to solve the problem related digital objects preservation system in the Korean Industry. Digital format registry is a kind of database that saves syntax and meaning informations of a digital file format and for giving help to make preserve in long-term even technical environment of a specific application has been changing. The role of the Technical Information Registry has been developed in this research and development is maintaining a technical information that is the foundation to maintain the long-term preservation and access to a digital objects. The function that can extract text information from a digital document object is implemented in DFR as a basic function at the first time in the world. This function make information consumers search a information that is needed easily and conveniently and can be used for development more effective records management system with retrieving the Key(index).
Implementation of Notch Filter Emulator for Wireless Interference Signal Cancellation under Power Line Communication Environment

Today is the Information age which Internet service acts a most important Information Source. So the Power Line Communication has been achieved to offer Internet service for Last-Mile area. And Research is achieved to frequence range from 30MHz to 80MHz for High-speed communication service. But, Power Line is not suitable for communication, So, electric wave is generated from flow of communication information. And the electric wave is interfered with Wireless Communication Service using the same frequence range. In this paper, a Notch Filter for reduce of interference between Power Line Communication and Wireless Communication Service is proposed. The proposed emulator is developed using TMS320C6416T DSP board of Texas Instruments.
Adaptive Background Subtraction Based on Genetic Evolution of the Global Threshold Vector

There has been a lot of interest in an effective method for background subtraction in an effort to separate foreground objects from a predefined background image. Promising results on background subtraction using statistical methods have recently been reported are robust enough to operate in dynamic environments, but generally require very large computational resources and still have difficulty in obtaining clear segmentation of objects. We use a simple running-average method to model a gradually changing background, instead of using a complicated statistical technique. We employ a single global threshold vector, optimized by a genetic algorithm, instead of pixel-by-pixel thresholds. A new fitness function is defined and trained to evaluate segmentation result. The system has been implemented on a PC with a webcam, and experimental results on real images show that the new method outperforms an existing method based on a mixture of Gaussian.
A System for Improving Fairness of Online Test Using Camera

E-Learning is different from the traditional classroom learning and examinees can take a class individually anywhere by online. And it is difficult to proctor an examination because they also take a test by online. However the results of the online test are included in their examination scores. Therefore, it is very important to authenticate the examinees. In this paper, we propose improvement of fairness system for online test using camera. Students can take a picture after every online classes and it has been saved. And during the test, ELTS(e-Learning Test System) takes images, detects the faces, and protects from getting another person to sit for cheating. After examination, the images have been transferred with the answer sheets to the cyber school management system. And a report card will be printed out with the user's images. Moreover, it will authenticate oneself and protect the online test from cheating.
Design of Node Position Estimation System for Sensor Networks

The value of sensing information is decided according to positions of sensor nodes, which are very important in sensor networks. In this paper, we propose a method that estimates positions of nodes by using adjacent node information and received signal strength in a sensor network. With the proposed method, we can find positions of nodes easily because we use information that nodes have. Moreover, we can find distribution easily for all the nodes because we can measure a relative position for a node whose position is not known based on anchor nodes whose positions are already known. We utilized Use case diagram, activity diagram and State machine diagram among several diagrams of UML to implement proposed method in sensor networks that is dynamic system. We can understand exact flow for each function of the proposed method in node position estimation system can be implemented easily. And we can be confirmed that the position of estimated nodes has a little error.
Analysis for Digital Evidences using the Features of Digital Pictures on Mobile Phone

By the explosive growth of IT technologies, mobile phones have embedded a lot of functions and everyone can use them with facility. But there are various cybercrimes as invasions of one's privacy or thefts of company's sensitive information using a built-in digital camera function in a mobile phone. In this paper, we propose a scheme for analyzing evidences by digital pictures on mobile phones. Therefore we analyze the features of digital pictures on mobile phones and make databases of characteristic patterns based on the vendor and the model of mobile phone. The proposed scheme will help to acquire digital evidences by providing a better decision of the vendor and/or the model of mobile phone by cybercrime suspects.
The Spreadsheet-Based Tool Model for Efficient MMORPG Data Management

In MMORPG development process, spreadsheet based data management has advantages in the handling of functions and analysis of large data set. But it has limitations in inserting, deleting, searching and relational management of that. In this paper, we proposed the spreadsheet based tool model for large data set for MMORPG development. Our system can reduce the risk of data management failure in MMORPG development process and improve the efficiency of data handling in the large-scale team.
A Study on Display Technique of Sketch Annotation in 3D Virtual Space for Collaboration

With development of 3D virtual space technology, diverse studies on 3D virtual space are being conducted because virtual space is being recognized as an appropriate technology for the field of urban and architectural design. However, while the process of urban and architectural design is done based on collaboration of various interested parties, there is lack of studies that support such collaboration. Communication within the virtual space must be provided for 3D virtual space to support collaboration, and a quick and direct technique of expressing one's intentions is required. sketch technique is effective. Ambiguous lines of sketch are extremely effective in that the range of thoughts in the idea stage can be broadened. However, such traditional sketch technique alone is difficult to support collaboration in 3D virtual space. That is because diverse shapes of 3D space require input of sketch. Accordingly in this study, sketch annotation that can effectively deliver intentions in 3D space was studied. Annotation technique using sketch-box was examined.
A Monitoring System for Working Environments Using Wireless Sensor Networks

A sensor network which is composed of a large number of sensors that perform various sensing is applied in a variety of fields. The sensor networks can be widely used for various application area like as home automation, fire detection and security area. Development of new sensor to have appropriate functions and deployment of networks for suitable application are served actively. In this paper, we design and implement a system that monitors various factory facilities by deploying sensor network at a working place which threatens the worker's safety. A sensor node reports its sensing data like as temperature and humidity to monitor facilities to a sink node. And the server which is connect to the sink node gathers and provides information by user interface. In addition, digital data which are generated at a work place can be transferred via the sensor network to increase the efficiency of works. The proposed sensor network provides the convenience of working, since it is deployed at a garbage collection company to monitor a temperature and humidity of garbage and to transmit data about the weight of trucks which enters the company.
Social Annotation and Navigation Support for Electronic Textbooks

Modem efforts on digitizing electronic books focus on preserving authentic image representation of the original sources. Unlike the text-based format, it is difficult to recognize the information in the image, so the new format requires new tools to help users to access, process, and make sense of digital information. This paper presents an approach which assists users of these image sources by giving them a combination of annotation and social navigation support. Especially in the education domain, the proposed technique improves the usability of online education system. This approach is currently fully implemented and under evaluation in a classroom study.
Index Ontology Repository for Video Contents

With the abundance of digital contents, the necessity of precise indexing technology is consistently required. To meet these requirements, the intelligent software entity needs to be the subject of information retrieval and the interoperability among intelligent entities including human must be supported. In this paper, we analyze the unifying framework for multi-modality indexing that Snoek and Worring proposed. Our work investigates the method of improving the authenticity of indexing information in contents-based automated indexing techniques. It supports the creation and control of abstracted high-level indexing information through ontological concepts of Semantic Web skills. Moreover, it attempts to present the fundamental model that allows interoperability between human and machine and between machine and machine. The memory-residence model of processing ontology is inappropriate in order to take-in an enormous amount of indexing information. The use of ontology repository and inference engine is required for consistent retrieval and reasoning of logically expressed knowledge. Our work presents an experiment for storing and retrieving the designed knowledge by using the Minerva ontology repository, which demonstrates satisfied techniques and efficient requirements. At last, the efficient indexing possibility with related research is also considered.
