Delayed Write Scheme to Enhance Write Performance of Flash Memory Based Embedded Database Systems

Embedded database systems (EDBMS) based on NAND flash memories are widely adopted for logging data on sensor nodes. Since write and erase operations of a flash memory are time consuming compared to read operations and wear memory cells, it is important to reduce these operations to enhance the EDBMS performance and to extend the memory life. In this paper, we propose a delayed write scheme to archive this goal. Proposed scheme stores updated parts of database pages into delayed write records to reduce the database page writes. By doing that, it decreases write and erase operations on a flash memory. Therefore, the proposed scheme enhances the logging performance of a write-intensive EDBMS on a sensor node and extends the flash memory life.
Performance Evaluation of System Catalog Management Schemes for Distributed XML Repository Systems at the Query Compilation Time

XML is recommended by W3C(World Wide Web) and widely accepted as a standard markup language for expression and sharing data. Recently, increasing the use and the amount of XML documents, there is required that easy methods for accessing XML documents at anytime and anywhere, therefore, the distributed XML repository systems is developed. For this, distributed XML repository systems is necessary to research catalog management schemes. In this paper, we design distributed XML database model considering CPU costs, I/O costs, concurrency control, two-phase commits a protocol, queuing delay and so on. And we implement a simulator in order to execute performance evaluation centralized catalog method, fully replicated catalog method, and partitioned catalog method using reasonably setting up environments.
The Study of Edge Extract Methods Using Improved Detect Mask

In this paper, the improved edge extract methods is proposed in order to extract edge. For the correct and fast detect, the binary image using the threshold value is applied for a experiment. For the experimental analysis, we compare the existing edge methods with the improved methods. Hereby, the exist methods are the sobel, robert, and prewitt. and the improved methods use the existing methods which is applied mask variations. The merits of the improved mothods have a result of a little erosion, a apparent edge. Specially, we use the grey image of medical image for the experimental analysis and then apply threshold value for a result image. After that, we acquire a apparent edge. For a quantitative analysis of the each methods, the each images was applied a histogram. As a result, we prove the merit of the improved methods using a analytical graph of the medical images.
Hardware Design for JBIG2 Huffman Coder

JBIG2, as the next generation standard for binary image compression, must be designed in hardware modules for the JBIG2 FAX to be implemented in an embedded equipment. This paper proposes a hardware module of the high-speed Huffman coder for JBIG2. The Huffman coder of JBIG2 uses selectively 15 Huffman tables. As the Huffman coder is designed to use minimal data and have an efficient memory usage, high speed processing is possible. The designed Huffman coder is ported to Virtex-4 FPGA and co-operating with a software modules on the embedded development board using Microblaze core. The designed IP was successfully verified using the simulation function test and hardware-software co-operating test. Experimental results shows the processing time is 10 times faster than that of software only on embedded system, because of hardware design using an efficient memory usage.
Fast Multi-GPU based 3D Backprojection Method

3D backprojection is a kind of reconstruction algorithm to generate volume data consisting of tomographic images, which provides spatial information of the original 3D data from hundreds of 2D projections. The computational time of backprojection increases in proportion to the size of volume data and the number of projection images since the value of every voxel in volume data is calculated by considering corresponding pixels from hundreds of projections. For the reduction of computational time, fast GPU based 3D backprojection methods have been studied recently and the performance of them has been improved significantly. This paper presents two multiple GPU based methods to maximize the parallelism of GPU and compares the efficiencies of two methods by considering both the number of projections and the size of volume data. The first method is to generate partial volume data independently for all projections after allocating a half size of volume data on each GPU. The second method is to acquire the entire volume data by merging the incomplete volume data of each GPU on CPU. The in-complete volume data is generated using the half size of projections after allocating the full size of volume data on each GPU. In experimental results, the first method performed better than the second method when the entire volume data can be allocated on GPU. Otherwise, the second method was efficient than the first one.
MHP-based Multi-Step the EPG System using Preference of Audience Groups

With the development of broadcasting technology from analogue to interactive digital, the number of TV channels and TV contents provided to audiences is increasing in a rapid speed. In this multi-channel world, it is difficult to adapt to the increase of the TV channel numbers and their contents merely using remote controller to search channels. For these reasons, the EPG system, one of the essential services providing convenience to audiences, is proposed in this paper. Collaborative filtering method with multi-step filtering is used in EPG to recommend contents according to the preference of audience groups with similar preference. To implement our designed TV contents recommendation EPG, we prefer DiTV and use JavaXlet programming based on MHP. The European DVB-MHP specification will be also our domestic standard in DiTV. Finally, the result is verified by OpenMHP emulator.
A Design of Static Meta-Model for Reuse Framework of Embedded System

Currently interests of embedded software in various areas such as automotive field, ship field, robot field is increasing according to expand market of embedded systems. Various researches such as embedded operating systems, embedded software modeling technique, embedded software testing, and so on are going in progress. However systematic engineering approach in embedded system development is poor because embedded areas focus on hardware parts until now. Furthermore, framework-based de sign technique considering reusability is not reflected in embedded system development. Those development results in many of dead codes scattered in system, and results in poor reusability of system. This paper suggests a framework of embedded system for reusability and a static meta-model for reuse framework. Proposed meta-model expresses not only the structure of reuse framework, but also allows a designer to extend and design easily models of embedded system based on reuse framework according to various embedded system types.
Geometric Multiple Watermarking Scheme for Mobile 3D Content Based on Anonymous Buyer-Seller Watermarking Protocol

This paper presents multiple watermarking method for the copyright protection and the prevention of illegal copying of mobile 3D contents. The proposed method embeds an unique watermark and a WCA watermark into the spatial and encryption domains of mobile 3D content based on anonymous Buyer-Seller watermarking protocol. The seller generates an unique watermark and embeds it into the distribution of vertex data of 3D content object. After receiving the encrypted watermark from WCA, the seller embeds it into the encrypted vertex data by using operator that satisfies the privacy homo morphic property. The proposed method was implemented using a mobile content tool, Power VR MBX and experimental results verified that the proposed method was capable of copyright protection and preventing illegal copying, as the watermarks were also accurately extracted in the case of geometrical attacks, such as noise addition, data accuracy variation, and data up/down scaling.
A Protocol Compression Scheme for Improving Call Processing of Push-To-Talk Service over IMS

In this paper, we propose a protocol compression scheme for enhancing the performance of call processing of PTT(Push-to-Talk) which is one of the important services in IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem), a next generation integrated wired/wireless packet communication network. To service the PTT on an IMS network, it should use the same call setup procedure as legacy Mobile and TRS(Trunked Radio System) networks and have a fast call setup time and enough communication bandwidth because a number of terminals should be able to exchange same data in real time. The proposed A+SigComp scheme reduces the initial call setup delay of SIP by about 10%, which is used by PTT service for call setup. In addition, the A+ROHC scheme is proposed to compress the header of RTP packets transferred during PTT voice transmission and, as a result, about 5% of increase in communication efficiency is observed.
Mobile Automatic Conversion System using MLP

The recent mobile industry is providing of a lot of image on/off-line contents are being converted into the mobile contents for architectural design. However, it is difficult to provide users with the existing on/off-line contents without any considerations due to the small size of the mobile screen. In existing methods to overcome the problem, the comic contents on mobile devices are manually produced by computer software such as Photoshop. In this paper, I describe the Automatic Comics Conversion(ACC) system that provides the variedly form of offline comic contents into mobile device of the small screen using Multi-Layer Perceptorn(MLP). ACC produces an experience together with the comic contents fitting for the small screen, which introduces a clustering method that is useful for variety types of comic images and characters as a prerequisite as a stage for preserving semantic meaning. An application is to use the frame form of pictures, website and images in order into mobile device the availability and can bounce back the freeze images contents into dynamic images content.
A New Curve Modeling Tool with the Acoustic Reflection for the Virtual Spatial Conceptual Sketch

In this paper, a new interaction technique with the virtual single or dual acoustic reflection tablet is proposed to support the perception of depth cue and implement the effective spatial input systems of reducing the depth errors in general spatial sketching tasks. And several experiments show that the virtual wall with acoustic reflections can be thought of as a meaningful feedback for the plausible virtual conceptual design. By using the proposed idea, the degree of agreement to the target model is increased by 35% due to the single acoustic reflection tablet in the constant depth plane. In the slanted plane, the degree of agreement is increased by 8% due to the dual acoustic reflection compared to the single acoustic reflection and the degree of agreement is increased by 15% on the curved vase.
Evolving Team-Agent Based on Dynamic State Evolutionary Artificial Neural Networks

Evolutionary Artificial Neural Networks (EANNs) has been highly effective in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and in training NPCs in video games. When EANNs is applied to design game NPCs' smart AI which can make the game more interesting, there always comes two important problems: the more complex situation NPCs are in, the more complex structure of neural networks needed which leads to large operation cost. In this paper, the Dynamic State Evolutionary Neural Networks (DSENNs) is proposed based on EANNs which deletes or fixes the connection of the neurons to reduce the operation cost in evolution and evaluation process. Darwin Platform is chosen as our test bed to show its efficiency: Darwin offers the competitive team game playing behaviors by teams of virtual football game players.
Location Correction Based on Map Information for Indoor Positioning Systems

An indoor location-based service cannot be realized unless the indoor positioning problem is solved. However, the cost-effective indoor positioning systems are suffering from their inaccurateness. This paper proposes a map information-based correction method for the indoor positioning systems. Using our Kalman filter with map information-based appropriate parameter values, our method estimates the track of the moving object, then it performs the Frechet Distance-based map matching on the obtained track. After that it applies our real time correction method. In order to verify efficiency of our method, we also provide our test results.
A Study on Interactive Storytelling Script Language for Generating the Stories

A multi-story can be generated by the interactions of users in the interactive storytelling system. In this paper, I suggest narrative structure and corresponding Storytelling Markup Language and implement the system that processes a story presented using this language. This research will be basis of making an authoring tool for interactive storytelling. It can be used to make a story tool and story presentation tool using text, image, animation with user interaction.
Interactive Simulation between Rigid body and Fluid using Simplified Fluid-Surface Model

Natural Phenomena are simulated to make computer users feel verisimilitude and be immersed in games or virtual reality. The important factor in simulating fluid such as water or sea using 3D rendering technology in games or virtual reality is real-time interaction and reality. There are many difficulties in simulating fluid models because it is controlled by many equations of each specific situation and many parameter values. In addition, it needs a lot of time in processing physically-based simulation. In this paper, I suggest simplified fluid-surface model in order to represent interaction between rigid body and fluid, and it can make faster simulation by improved processing. Also, I show movement of fluid surface which is come from collision of rigid body caused by reaction of fluid in representing interaction between rigid body and fluid surface. This natural fluid-surface model suggested in this paper is represented realistically in real-time using fluid dynamics veri similarly. And the fluid-surface model will be applicable in games or animation by realizing it for PC environment to interact with this.
