Parallel Data Extraction Architecture for High-speed Playback of High-density Optical Disc

When an optical disc is being played. the pick-up converts light to analog signal at first. The analog signal is equalized for removing the inter-symbol interference and then the equalized analog signal is converted into the digital signal for extracting the synchronized data and clock signals. There are a lot of algorithms that minimize the BER in extracting the synchronized data and clock when high. density optical disc like BD is being played in low speed. But if the high-density optical disc is played in high speed, it is difficult to adopt the same extraction algorithm to data PLL and PRML architecture used in low speed application. It is because the signal with more than 800MHz should be processed in those architectures. Generally, in the 0.13-
CMOS technology, it is necessary to have the high speed analog cores and lots of efforts to layout. In this paper, the parallel data PLL and PRML architecture, which enable to process in BD 8x speed of the maximum speed of the high-density optical disc as the extracting data and clock circuit, is proposed. Test results show that the proposed architecture is well operated without processing error at BD 8x speed.
Implementation of OpenVG on Embedded Systems

Embedded systems and web browsers have started to provide two-dimensional vector graphics features, to finally support scalability of graphics outputs, while traditional graphics systems have focused on the raster and bitmap operations. Nowadays, SVG and Flash are actively used while OpenVG from Khronos group plays the role of a de facto low-level API standard to support them. In this paper, we represent the design and implementation process and the final results of an OpenVG implementation, AlexVG. From its design stage, our implementation aims at the cooperation with SVG-Tiny, another de facto standard for embedded systems. Currently, our overall system provides not only the OpenVG core features but also variety of OpenVG application programs and SVG-Tiny media file playing capabilities. For the conformance with the standard specifications, our system completely passed the whole OpenVG conformance test suites and the graphics output portions of the SVG-Tiny conformance test suites. From the performance point of view, we focused on the efficiency and effectiveness especially on the mobile phones and embedded devices with limited resources. As the result, it showed impressive benchmarks on the small-scale CPU's such as ARM's, even without neither any other libraries nor acceleration hardware.
A Load Distribution System on P2P Online Game Based on RS Reconfiguration by Interesting Regions

It is for sure that a stable game managing system is absolutely needed to accept simultaneous interfacing of many users for P2P on-line game system. The proposed P2P on-line game system in this paper is able to get smart and stable game managing taking care of extensive players through reorganizing numerous RS(Region Server) and mutual communications among RS's which can be avoid congestion on one region. Moreover, it is possible to synchronize for game nodes in time stamp utilizing Global Zone Buffer of Monitoring Server which leads to breakup loads. The system manages middleware layers in the so-called sub area, and it is able to execute no matter how big the game sizes are. That means, in some ways, we got everything we try to ensure such as the problems of high cost server and stabilization of message transmission. This paper welcomes to prove efficiency of the suggested system through the simulation.
Shot Change Detection Technique Using Adaptive Threshold Setting Method on Variable Reference Block and Implementation on PMP

Shot change detection is the main technique in the video segmentation which requirs real-time processing and automatical processing in hardware. Until now, there were few research reports about real-time shot change detection for applying to hardware terminals with low performance such as PMPs(Portable Media Player) and cellular phones. In this paper, we propose shot change detection technique using adaptive threshold setting method on variable reference block. Our proposed algorithm determines shot change detection by comparing the feature value of current frame and a mean of a feature value on variable reference blocks. The proposed method can be used independently from the feature value of frame, can adaptively set thresholds using a mean of a feature value on variable reference blocks. We obtained better detection ratio than the conventional methods maximally by precision 0.146, recall 0.083, F1 0.089 in the experiment with the same test sequences. We verified real-time operation of shot change detection by implementing our algorithm on the PMP from some company of H. Therefore, our proposing algorithm will be helpful in searching video data on portable media players such as PMPs and cellular phones.
Error-Diffusion Technique using Variable Principle Distances for LCD Monitor

The key technology for developing high quality LCDs is about manufacturing BLUs with homogeneous dot distributions. Commonly, homogeneous dot distributions are obtained by the halftoning methods which convert a gray-scale image to a binary image. Among many halftoning algorithms, the error-diffusion technique based on the principle distance is known to show homogeneous dot distributions. However, this technique has a drawback; the extent of the principle distance at each pixel with respect to those of the neighboring pixels can be too small or big creating a gap or overlap. In this paper, we propose a new error diffusion algorithm based on the variable principle distance which improves the existing error diffusion technique based on the principle distance. The variable principle distance at a given pixel is calculated with gray-scale values of the pixel and its neighbors and thus the principle distance value is variable depending on the direction from that pixel. This variable principle distance technique helps BLUs obtain homogeneous dot distributions.
Iterative Data Completion for Limited Angle Tomography using Filtered Backprojection

When the range of projection angles is limited, tomographic reconstruction suffers from artifacts caused by incomplete data. One can consider a data completion technique, which estimates projection data at unobserved angles using a prior knowledge or mathematical exploration, but the result is often not improved; the improvement by the data completion often undermined by the artifacts by inaccurate estimation, In this paper, we propose an iterative method, which computes projection data at unobserved angles by using the current estimate on the image, links the computed projection data to the observed ones by using the consistence condition of Radon transform, and reconstruct the next estimate on the image by filtered backprojection. The proposed method does not require a prior knowledge on the image, and has much faster approximation rate than the expectation maximization method. The performance of the proposed method was tested through several simulation studies.
A Bone Age Assessment Method Based on Normalized Shape Model

Bone age assessment has been widely used in pediatrics to identify endocrine problems of children. Since the number of trained doctors is far less than the demands, there has been numerous requests for automatic estimation of bone age. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an automatic bone age assessment method that utilizes pattern classification techniques. The proposed method consists of three modules; a finger segmentation module, a normalized shape model generation module and a bone age estimation module. The finger segmentation module segments fingers and epiphyseal regions by means of various image processing algorithms. The shape model abstraction module employ ASM to improves the accuracy of feature extraction for bone age estimation. In addition, SVM is used for estimation of bone age. Features for the estimation include the length of bone and the ratios of bone length. We evaluated the performance of the proposed method through statistical analysis by comparing the bone age assessment results by clinical experts and the proposed automatic method. Through the experimental results, the mean error of the assessment was 0.679 year, which was better than the average error acceptable in clinical practice.
Automated Visual Inspection System of PCB using CAD Information

Image training is a very important yet difficult state for automated visual inspection using computers. Because the size of parts for the recently produced PCB (Printed Circuit Board) becomes smaller and circuit patterns gradually become more complex, a difficult and complex training process is becoming a big problem within an industry where development cycle for new products is short and various products must be inspected. This research produced a reference image by using CAD (Gerber) file which becomes a standard for PCB automatic visual inspection. Reference image from a Gerber file guarantees PCB patterns with no defects. Through system implementation and experimentation, Gerber file is used in order to propose a plan which allows an easy training process for PCB automatic visual inspection system.
An Intra-path Load Balancing Method based on both the Bottleneck State of Path and the Bandwidth Avaliability of Link

Providing Quality-of-Service (QoS) guarantee requires for each router on the path of a traffic flow not to violate the flow's delay budget allocated to itself. Since the amount of load being offered to the router is determined by the budget, some imbalance in load among routers on the path may be alleviated by means of adjusting the budget. The equal allocation applied to the resource reservation protocol (RSVP) is simple to implement, but it has the drawback of a poor resource utilization. A load balancing method in which the delay budget being allocated to a router depends on its load state was developed to improve the drawback, but it's too complex to apply to the RSVP. This paper proposes an intra-path load balancing method not only applicable to the RSVP but also more effective in improving the drawback. The proposed method first partitions the end-to-end delay bound of a flow to routers by the RSVP and then let them adjust their budgets according to both the bottleneck state of the path and their links' bandwidth availabilities. The results of the simulation applying the proposed method to an evaluation network showed that the proposed method may provide the gain of 4
17 % compared to that in the legacy one in terms of the number of maximally admittable flows.
A Time Slot Allocation Method of UWB Distributed MAC Protocol for Fair QoS Provisionings to High Speed Multimedia Services in Wireless Home Networks

The WiMedia Alliance has specified a Distributed Medium Access Control (D-MAC) protocol based on UWB for high speed wireless home networks and WPANs. The WiMedia D-MAC fundamentally removes the problems of the centralized MAC revealed at IEEE 802.15.3 MAC, by adopting a distributed architecture. However, there is no completely distributed method for allocating fair data rates to all traffic streams by considering each stream's QoS parameter. In this paper, a novel fair distributed QoS admission control method is proposed. The proposed method is a fair, adaptive QoS provisioning method, by allocating time slots to devices according to the current traffic load condition, through executing only a proposed single satisfaction of QoS (SoQ) algorithm at each device.
A Segment Algorithm for Extracting Item Blocks based on Mobile Devices in the Web Contents

Users are able to search and read interesting items and hence click hyperlink linked to the item which is detailed content unit such as menu, login, news, video, etc. Small screen like mobile device is very difficult to viewing all web contents at once. Browsing and searching for interesting items by scrolling to left and right or up and down is discomfort to users in small screen. Searching and displaying directly the item preferred by users can reduces difficulty of interface manipulation of mobile device. To archive it, web contents based on desktop will be segmented on a per-item basis which component unit of web contents. Most segment algorithms are based on segment method through analysis of HTML code or mobile size. However, it is difficult to extract item blocks. Because present web content is getting more complicated and diversified in structure and content like web portal services. A web content segment algorithm suggested in this paper is based on extracting item blocks is component units of web contents.
Implementation of A Lecture Room Control System Based on a Sensor Network

As the interest in sensor networks has been increased recently, researches have been performed in many areas using sensor networks. In this paper, we propose and implement a lecture room control system based on a sensor network. It is possible to give an efficient lecture by collecting lecturers' lecture history information through the sensor network and controlling a PC, a beam projector, lights, etc. in a lecture room appropriately using the information. We construct a sensor network and perform experiments so that the proposed lecture room control system performs efficiently. Through the experiments, we obtained the optimal message generation period of the sensor node in a lecture room and the optimal number of sensor nodes deployed in a lecture room to communicate without any trouble between sensor nodes.
A Physical-based Particle Method for Small Scale Feature in Multi-phase Fluid Simulation

This paper presents a multi-phase fluid simulation that realistically represents small scale details. We achieve this by creating escaped particles based on physical methods. Escaped particles are the remained particles after correcting levelset. Generation of escaped particles in this paper differs from previous works; this fluid simulation is extended by adding lift force and drag force to positive escaped particles. And negative escaped particles represent droplet or splash effect; when they are merged into the negative levelset value, they affect the nodes' velocity (two-way coupling). This simulation that uses positive and negative escaped particles deals with detailed fluid motions dynamically in small scale.
Detection of Premature Ventricular Contraction Using Discrete Wavelet Transform and Fuzzy Neural Network

This paper presents an approach to detect premature ventricular contraction(PVC) using discrete wavelet transform and fuzzy neural network. As the input of the algorithm, we use 14 coefficients of d3, d4, and d5, which are transformed by a discrete wavelet transform(DWT). This paper uses a neural network with weighted fuzzy membership functions(NEWFM) to diagnose PVC. The NEWFM discussed in this paper classifies a normal beat and a PVC beat. The size of the window of DWT is
second(64 samples) whose center is the R wave. Using the seven records of the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database used in Shyu's paper, the classification performance of the proposed algorithm is 99.91%, which outperforms the 97.04% of Shyu's analysis. Using the forty records of the M1T-BIH arrhythmia database used in Inan's paper, the classification performance of the proposed algorithm is 98.01%, which outperforms 96.85% of Inan's one. The SE and SP of the proposed algorithm are 84.67% and 99.39%, which outperforms the 82.57% and 98.33%, respectively, of Inan's study.
Studies on the Structure of Sensibility and the Sensibility Factor in the Web Site

This study is the research on sensitivity in the web. The main purposes of the study are to present the objective criteria on sensitivity of web users and to help embodiment of successful design. The study has overall two main subjects, which are the contents and results. They are as follows. First, the study is going to develop sensibility factors and the sensitivity structure model. Second, based on the study above, the further stage focuses on the correlation between sensibility and figurative factors in the web design. By understanding of the correlation between sensitivity and figurative factors, the study assist designer in the embodiment of successful sensitivity design. And it shows one of the various approaches to sensitivity. In the end, it can be considered as a process to make an objective criteria on sensitivity design at the same time expected to play a role providing designers with rational guideline on work and evaluation and helping the presentation of successful sensitivity design.
