A Study on Reconfigurable Network Protocol Stack using Task-based Component Design on a SoC Platform
Kim, Young-Mann ; Tak, Sung-Woo ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 5, 2009, Pages 617~632
In this paper we propose a technique of implementing the reconfigurable network protocol stack that allows for partitioning network protocol functions into software and hardware tasks on a SoC (System on Chip) platform. Additionally, we present a method that guarantees the deadline of both an individual task and messages exchanging among tasks in order to meet the deadline of real-time multimedia and networking services. The proposed real-time message exchange method guarantees the deadline of messages generated by multimedia services that are required to meet the real-time properties of multimedia applications. After implementing the networking functions of TCP/IP protocol suite into hardware and software tasks, we verify and validate their performance on the SoC platform. Experimental results indicate that the proposed technique improves the performance of TCP/IP protocol suit as well as application service satisfaction in application-specific real-time.

Park, Young-Sup ; Yoon, Kyung-Hyun ; Lee, Eun-Seok ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 5, 2009, Pages 633~643
We propose a color transfer method that used color contrast based templates to express the visual difference clearly between objects, while remaining the quality of the input image. Our algorithm employs colors of both the input image and template distributed on the
chrominance plane of CIE
color space. The templates are made by considering the effect of color contrast and have the shape of either a line or a curve represented color distribution of the basic colors based gradation image. These tempates can be modeled on spline curves. We also generate simply new templates with the different basic colors by moving the control points of that curve. The color transfer method using the templates is done through a regressive analysis and color matching. We maintained color coherence of the input image by transforming similarly the color distribution of an input image to the one of templates.

New communication environments such as USN, WiBro and RFID have been realized nowadays. Thus, in order to ensure security and privacy protection, various light-weight block ciphers, e.g., mCrypton, HIGHT, SEA and PRESENT, have been proposed. The block cipher mCrypton, which is a light-weight version of Crypton, is a 64-bit block cipher with three key size options (64 bits, 96 bits, 128 bits). In this paper we show that 8-round mCrypton with 128-bit key is vulnerable to related-key rectangle attack. It is the first known cryptanalytic result on mCrypton. We first describe how to construct two related-key truncated differentials on which 7-round related-key rectangle distinguisher is based and then exploit it to attack 8-round mCrypton. This attack requires
time complexities which is faster than exhaustive key search.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 5, 2009, Pages 653~663
Synchronization between media is an important aspect in the design of multimedia communication-system. This paper proposes a precise media synchronization mechanism for video and audio transport over IP networks. To support synchronization between video and audio bitstreams transported over IP networks, RTP/RTCP protocol suite is usually employed. To provide a precise mechanism for media synchronization between video and audio, we suggest an efficient media synchronization algorithm based on NPT (Normal Play Time) which can be derivable from the timestamp information in the header part of RTP packet generated for the transport of video and audio. In the proposed method, we do not need to send and process any RTCP SR (sender report) packet which is required for conventional media synchronization scheme, and accordingly could reduce the number of required UDP ports and the amount of control traffic injected into the network.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 5, 2009, Pages 664~676
As data broadcasting has become available, diverse contents can now be provided through digital TV, IPTV and DMB; yet it is true in the current situation that killer contents are insufficient that can satisfy users. On the contrary, in case of the web, with the advent of web 2.0 aiming at user-centered services, the contents market has grown greatly. The ideas and technologies of Web 2.0, if gratified into data broadcasting, are expected to make a contribution to the vitalization of contents. This paper proposes a method of using RSS, as a concrete example of applying web 2.0 to data broadcasting. Accordingly, we have developed a system for producing data services for the ground wave DMB data broadcasting, by using RSS at the stage of authoring news and the like, for which provision of the latest information is important. And for IPTV, we have developed a data broadcasting application so that users can select the RSS they want, as well as a creation system for using RSS at the authoring stage. It is anticipated that the application of RSS by means of the system will simplify the authoring process, making easy the provision of the latest information through the web, and thereby making possible the provision of diverse services to users.
A Study on 3D Object and GUI Representation Based on MPEG-4 BIFS for Mobile TV
Yim, Hyun-Jeong ; Lim, Soon-Bum ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 5, 2009, Pages 677~687
Despite the fact that the mobile environment has favorable conditions for using data contents, it is not easy to implement enhanced data services for mobile broadcasting based on MPEG-4 BIFS. With a structure inherited from VRML, BIFS targets different types of content with a development approach that is not very compatible with broadcasting contents. Furthermore, it is not easy to implement BIFS because the standard is too complicated for the mobile broadcasting environment. Accordingly, this study proposes an enhanced mobile TV contents model that provides interactive 3D objects and GUI for the viewers to interact with the broadcasting contents. By applying the model to the DMB environment, this study suggests a direction for future developments of mobile broadcasting contents. In order to represent 3D graphics on mobile TV, we analyzed MPEG-BIFS 3D nodes and composed a subset of VRML profile, and defined new nodes that can efficiently represent GUI at the content development level. If this study helps facilitate expression of 3D graphics and interactions in data contents composition, enhanced efficiency of contents development is expected to promote the development of various contents suitable for the mobile broadcasting environment.

Kim, Jung-In ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 5, 2009, Pages 688~698
The market for Internet fashion/coordination shopping malls has been enormously increased year by year. However, online shoppers feel inconvenient because most of Internet shopping malls still rely on item classifications by category and do not provide the functionality in terms of which shoppers can find clothes they want. In an effort to build a fashion/coordination system for women's dress adopting the Heuristic-based method, one of the Context-based methods, we present a method for defining characteristics of a woman's dress as attributes and their inheritance relations, which can be input by a product manager. We also compare and analyze various methods for recommending the most similar clothes.

Recently, while 3D sports game increases, the research that it recognizes the operation of the real user actively progresses. Most of all, the research about the golf is active. In this paper, the camera acquiring in a high-speed multi-exposure image measures the flight data of the golf ball through the image processing. While photographing, the high-speed camera, using this system, exposes an image at regular intervals. And line scan camera checks whether the golf ball passed or not. After the location information of the calculated golf ball calculates a speed and a direction by using the physical formula, it applies the golf simulation. After, this system is possible the measurement of the physical element of the spherical object.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 5, 2009, Pages 708~716
Applications which are implemented on Table Top Display are controlled by hands, so that they support an intuitive interface to users. Users feel the real sense when they interact on the virtual scene in Table Top Display. However, most of conventional augmented reality applications on Table Top Display satisfy only visual sense. In this paper, we propose an interface that supports multi-modal sense in that tactile sense is utilized for augment reality by vibrating a physical control unit when it collides to virtual objects. Users can feel the collision in addition to visual scene. The proposed system facilitates tactile augmented reality through an air hockey game. A physical control unit vibrates when it receives virtual collision data over wireless communication. Since the use of tabletop display environment is extended with a tactile sense based physical unit other than hand, it provides a more intuitive interface.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 5, 2009, Pages 717~727
P2P (Peer-to-Peer) network depends on cooperation of peers considerably. However, some peers do not share files at all and only download files. Peers also share low quality files or unpopular files. These selfish behavior of peers is referred to 'free riding'. The free riding of peer may decrease participation of other peers or the system performance. In this paper, we propose an incentive mechanism, called IcMFS (Incentive Mechanism for File Sharing System), which provides the correct use of incentive mechanism using trust peer, computes contribution values referring behavior of peers and rewards peers. The proposed mechanism assigns bandwidth and TTL(Time-To-Live) to a peer and differentiates the use of service. A case study on simulations shows the service differentiation according to the contribution value of peer, the correct use of incentive mechanism using trust peer and the advantage by use of trust peer. To prove the stability of proposed mechanism, we also show the disadvantage that a peer receives from the incorrect use of incentive mechanism.
Extension of Wireless Sensor Network Lifetime with Variable Sensing Range Using Genetic Algorithm
Song, Bong-Gi ; Woo, Chong-Ho ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 5, 2009, Pages 728~736
We propose a method using the genetic algorithm to solve the maximum set cover problem. It is needed for scheduling the power of sensor nodes in extending the lifetime of the wireless sensor network with variable sensing range. The existing Greedy Heuristic method calculates the power scheduling of sensor nodes repeatedly in the process of operation, and so the communication traffic of sensor nodes is increased. The proposed method reduces the amount of communication traffic of sensor nodes, and so the energies of nodes are saved, and the lifetime of network can be extended. The effectiveness of this method was verified through computer simulation, and considering the energy losses of communication operations about 10% in the network lifetime is improved.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 5, 2009, Pages 745~756
An autonomous virtual character can conduct itself like a human after recognizing and interpreting the virtual environment. Artificial vision is mainly used in the recognition of the environment for a virtual character. The present artificial vision that has been developed takes all the information at once from everything that comes into view. However, this can reduce the efficiency and reality of the system by saving too much information at once, and it also causes problems because the speed slows down in the dynamic environment of the game. Therefore, to construct a vision system similar to that of humans, a visual observation system which saves only the required information is needed. For that reason, this research focuses on the descriptive artificial intelligence engine which detects the most important information visually recognized by the character in the virtual world and saves it into the memory by degrees. In addition, a visual system is constructed in accordance with an image transaction theory to make it sense and recognize human feelings. This system finds the attention area of moving objects quickly and effectively through the experiment of the virtual environment with three dynamic dimensions. Also the experiment enhanced processing speed more than 1.6 times.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 5, 2009, Pages 757~766
This study presents an adaptive hypermedia learning system which can provide individual learning environment using a learner behavioral model. This system proposes a LBML which can manage learners' learning behavioral information by tracking down such information real-time. The system consists of a collecting system of learning behavioral information and an adaptive learning support system. The collecting system of learning behavioral information uses Web 2.0 technologies and collects learners' learning behavioral information real-time based on a SCORM CMI data model. The collected information is stored as LBML instances of individual learners based on a LBML schema. With the adaptive learning support system, a rule-based learning supporting module and an interactive learning supporting module are developed by analysing LBML instances.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 5, 2009, Pages 767~776
The purpose of this paper is to design, implement and test the automatic marking system for programming languages using key-words and boolean operations to solve the processing problems of natural languages. There are accurate grammar systems and key-words in programming languages. Using these characteristics, We have designed, programmed, and tested automatic marking system for programming languages through key-words and boolean operations in this paper. We have categorized programming languages into 7 types as the type of answer and when a professor input any key-words, the system make him put conjunction with the special character. It can be logical expressions instantly so that the system easily operates. We asked 10 students who are majoring in computer engineering to take a test on the paper and web to show how well automatic marking system that we have programmed works. Then We requested 3 professors if the subject problems marked objectively. As a result, automatic marking system proved to be appropriate. We have proposed the way of using key-words and boolean operation for prohibiting huge natural language processing in marking of subjective question. It promotes efficiency rate of programming, objectivity and speed through the transferal to the web for marking since the system prohibits marker to include personal opinion on marking and gives feedback quickly
