WSDL-based SOAP Bridge(WBSB) for Distributed System with Heterogeneous Distributed Objects
Park, Cheol-Woo ; Park, Se-Myung ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 883~892
SOAP using WSDL(Web Service Definition Language) was proposed for effective integration of distributed objects. But the SOAP message and WSDL document automatically generated from development tool are fully dependent on the development environments. So the dependency of SOAP messages and WSDL documents for objects to the development environment is still a big problem to be solved for the integration of heterogeneous distributed objects. In order to support integration of heterogeneous distributed object, we implemented SOAP Bridge called WBSB(WSDL Based SOAP Bridge). As service request message for a particular service object is translated into appropriate SOAP message for the selected service object by WBSB using WSDL repository, a client can use service object without considering the development environment of the service object.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 893~902
Many People are collecting and managing variable information(Image, Graphic, Animation, Text, music files etc.) about personal interests and holding them in common. Most users are using Microsoft Explorer to make a folder and classify many files. but It's difficult to understand the relation of the data instinctively. To resolve this problem, we adopt information visualization method (especially tree-graph control interface). We suggest an interface that all user can drawing a Graph easily and rapidly. So user can see the relations of their data instinctively and control the relation directly with our sketch-based interface.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 903~912
There are still many difficulties in developing techniques for modifying or transforming the flickering of motion capture data or in modifying motion capture data in such a way that suits the animation timing sheet. There is a problem in the existing method of modifying motion capture data. It requires almost same time as in the key frame animation work by a very skilled animator or even more time in modifying. It is believed that this kind of problem can be a basis for a more effective problem-solving method through creating the key animation data node and direct blend layer and replacement layer nodes. This study presents a new method which enables to modify animation data in a nonlinear way without modifying the existing animation data by creating an animation layer node for a direct connection to the animation node. 'Maya' API will be utilized in order to realize this method and the research range will be limited to 'Maya' 3D software which is generally used in motion picture and animation films. According to the results of this study, the new method is much more intuitive than the nonlinear one and does not require the preceding working of making animation clips. In addition, it has enabled to modify flickering and to extract key frames, and due to the compatibility with other programs, it has been possible to modify motion capture data by creating a direct layer node. Finally, in this study, the existing method of modifying animation will be examined, compared and analyzed.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 913~921
Quantization is an essential method for compression of video. The quantizer can adjust the bitrate and control the picture quality. Especially, the subjective picture quality can be improved if the concerned region within a video sequence has good picture quality. In this paper, firstly a classification method according to the subjective concerned region within the video sequence is suggested. Also we propose a method that assigns the quantization step-size differentially according to the concerned region within the video. Totally subjective picture quality can be increased by appling the quantization step-size as small value relatively for the concerned region compared with the other regions. We can find the result that the proposed method gives the improved picture quality by assigning differently quantization step-size and the best improvement can be brought when the difference between maximum and minimum values of the quantization step-size in a picture is from 4 to 8.
A Simplification Method of Intra Prediction Considering Importance of Subjective Interest Region
Lee, Ho-Young ; Kwon, Soon-Kak ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 922~928
In H.264 as the newest video standard, 9 modes are used in order to predict the signal values of a block composed with several pixels by intra prediction. From these process, H.264 can bring high compression ratio in the encoded signal but the use of total 9 modes can give the inefficiency of the increase of the complexity induced by the amount of operation processing or the number of searching which is applied to compare adjacent pixels. This paper proposes a simplification method of prediction mode for the intra-picture coding by considering subjective interest region. There are certain region being interested within a picture of the video sequence. This region requires better subjective picture quality than the other regions. The proposed method increases the simplification of prediction mode by providing just essential modes of total 9 modes for less interest regions compared with the interest region. It is possible to get the additional 11%
15% simplification of the prediction mode by the proposed method, compared with the conventional method which simplifies the prediction mode for all of the picture by using the prediction characteristics only.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 929~940
This paper presents multipurpose watermarking scheme in coutourlet transform domain for copyright protection, authentication and transform detection. Since contourlet transform can detect more multi direction edge and smooth contour than wavelet transform, the proposed scheme embeds multi watermarks in contourlet domain based on 4-level Laplacian pyramid and 2-level directional filter bank. In the first stage of the robust watermarking scheme for copyright protection, we generates the sequence of circle patterns according to watermark bits and projects these patterns into the average of magnitude coefficients of high frequency directional subbands. Then the watermark bit is embedded into variance distribution of the projected magnitude coefficients. In the second stage that is the semi-fragile watermarking scheme for authentication and transform detection, we embed the binary watermark image in the low frequency subband of higher level by using adaptive quantization modulation scheme. From the evaluation experiment using Checkmark 2.1, we verified that the proposed scheme is superior to the conventional scheme in a view of the robustness and the invisibility.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 941~946
As supplying of automatic surveillance or patrol systems based on image processing, the needs on object extraction technology from images increases. The extraction is more difficult when the lighting condition is changed from time to time. There are many approaches to extract objects from images excluding shadow. They have a common problem something like loss of object region according with shadow removal. In this paper a restoration method using color information of objects to complement the problem is presented. The usefulness of the method is verified using images taken from different lighting conditions and selected from well-known DB.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 947~952
In this paper, we propose a method of generating color sketch images using the DIP operator. In the proposed method, an input RGB color image is first transformed into an HSV color image. A sketch image of the V component image is then extracted by applying the DIP operator to the V component image, which is the brightness component of the input image. For the visual convenience, the extracted sketch image of the V component image is next inverted and contrast-stretched. The S component image is also enhanced to deepen the color of output sketch image while maintaining its color. Finally, the V and S component images along with the original H component image are transformed into an output RGB color sketch image. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields output color sketch images similar to hand-drawn sketch pictures whose colors are the same as those of input color images.

Lee, Hye-Joo ; Nam, Je-Ho ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 953~961
The usage of DRM-applied digital contents reduces user's convenience, thus it leads the many users to avoid using DRM-applied digital contents. In this paper, therefore, we propose the new distribution model in which the users, who purchase the DRM-applied digital contents, can resale freely those contents to the other users. As a result, the proposed model induces the users to distribute contents soundly by including them in one of distribution objects. For the purpose of this, in this paper, we propose that a packaged content and usage rights are transferred to another user by using a method which based on some existing digital ticket or coupon. In addition, the security of the proposed system is discussed for the double transfer, the forgery and the modification of usage rights, and the reproduction of contents and usage rights.
A Time Tree Scheduling Scheme for Energy Efficiency and Collision Avoidance in Sensor Networks
Lee, Kil-Hung ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 962~970
This paper presents a data gathering and scheduling scheme for wireless sensor networks. We use a data gathering tree for sending the data from the sensor node to the base station. For an energy efficient operation of the sensor networks in a distributed manner, a time tree is built in order to reduce the collision probability and to minimize the total energy required to send data to the base station. A time tree is a data gathering tree where the base station is the root and each sensor node is either a relaying or a leaf node of the tree. Each tree operates in a different time schedule with possible different activation rate. Through the simulation, we found that the proposed scheme that uses time trees shows better characteristics in energy and data arrival rate when compared with other schemes such as SMAC and DMAC.

Shin, Cheon-Woo ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 971~978
The paper is a phase controlled loop antenna for multi-media devices. We developed a phase control loop pattern arrangement methods for loop antenna in mobile devices like as a cell phone and PCS, WCDMA. In the loop antenna pattern, arrange close adhesive the loop antenna pattern
cycle in wave length, the radiated electro-magnetic wave from close adhesive loop pattern become to coherent wave than the phase controlled loop antenna has high efficiency and high radiation gain. To acquire a wide band width on phase controlled loop antenna, we arrange a multiple phase controlled loop pattern that has a different length each other. Different length for each other loop pattern cause a different frequency that we can acquire a wide band width for loop antenna from close adhesive phase control. In experiment, we designed a CDMA850 mobile multi-media antenna in 20mm
20mm area thickness 0.4mm, the radiation efficiency is over 60% and radiation gain is over 0dBi.
Design and Implementation of Relay File for Superdistribution of the Streaming Contents
Kim, Tae-Min ; Yang, Young-Kyu ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 979~988
Illegal reproductions and subsequent copyright infringement have curtailed development of digital content industry. Many DRM systems have been developed and utilized for this purpose. However, current DRM system allow only authorized user to access the contents, and as such, redistribution to other user without getting license again entails cumbersome process. Currently, super-distribution system which can be used for redistribution of downloaded contents in more streamlined fashion is being widely conducted. But for streaming type content, it is still very difficult to redistribute with super-distribution system because the client must directly connect to streaming server to access the content. Accordingly, a new DRM streaming service structure is required to allow streamed contents to be redistributed as easily as the downloaded contents. In this paper, we proposed the relay file structure that can connect the streaming server and the user for super-distribution of the streaming contents.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 989~996
Recently, use of the GIS (Geographic Information System) for the disaster of the urban inundation is increasing. The digital disaster map is the system which analyzes the occurrence area of inundation in the past and forecasts the flood areas by the hydrology method. The development of the system which simulates the flood forecast area by the SWMM(Storm Water Management System) and hydrology method and displays the danger areas is required for the construction of the inundation forecast system. And the spatial database which contains information of the urban facilities such as the street and building and the sewer system such as the manhole and drainage and the result of the hydrology analysis is constructed. In this paper, we propose the method for transforming the Shape File in ESRI into the Oracle spatial database to construct the spatial data for the drainage systems and urban facilities using the Shape File format in the ESRI. We suggest the algorithm for the transformation of the data format, and develop the prototype system to display the inundation area using the spatial database.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 997~1005
In this paper, we suggest an energy-efficient clustering scheme based on cross-layer design in wireless sensor networks. The proposed scheme works adequately for the characteristic environment of the networks. In the proposed clustering scheme, we separate clusters composed of sensor nodes in the event area from clusters of the other area when an event occurs by using an application layer information. We can save energy from multiple paths through multiple clusters to deliver the same event. We also suggest TDMA scheduling for non-evented clusters. In the scheduling, we allocate one time slot for each node to save energy. The suggested clustering scheme can increase the lifetime of the entire network. We show that our scheme is energy efficient through simulation in terms of the frequency of event occurrences, the event continual time and the scope.

Kim, Ji-Hong ; Choi, Doo-Hyun ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 1016~1021
Among many factors for evaluating the performance of color printers, the color uniformity is an important factor during the stage of development and mass production. Currently the color uniformity is measured manually using densitometers and the data is analyzed by inspectors to evaluate the performance. In this paper a new method of estimating the color uniformity using scanners and average brightness is presented. The color uniformity of printouts is estimated by using the test pattern and commercially available scanner. It is shown from experiments that the estimated data are similar to the data measured by densitometers. Also, with the analysis of the color uniformity, the usefulness of the proposed approach is presented.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 1022~1031
In this paper, we propose a researcher modeling technique based on ontology and construct social network for researchers using diverse relational properties. User ontology schema is created by extending the existing HR-XML model for a researcher model. User ontology schema and instance are created by OWL. We compose social network model for efficient cooperation between researchers using static relational properties such as educational background and dynamic relational properties such as co-authors and co-workers, etc. Closeness has direction because researcher network is differently configured by the researchers. We define inferencing rules using SWRL and inference ontology rules using racer inference machine to compose direct relationships between researchers. The proposed model for researchers can be applied to the cooperation model for researchers by retrieving common expert group dynamically.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 12, issue 7, 2009, Pages 1032~1042
This research is for early extraction and utilization of semantic information from the tags in tagged Web image retrieval. Generally, users attach a tag to a Web image with little thought of the order, up to over 100 ones. In this paper, we suggest a method of selecting prior tags based on their importance when tagged images are uploaded, and using them in image retrieval. Ideas came from the recognition of the important tags which give a better description of the image as the tags sharing more semantic information with other tags of the same image. This method includes calculation of relation scores between tags based on WordNet and multilevel search of tagged images with the scores. For evaluation, we compared the suggested method and other retrieval methods searching images with simple matching of tags to a given keyword. As the results, we found the superiority of our method in precision and recall rate.
