A Recovery Method of External Symbol Information in Statically-Linked ELF Files
Kim, Jung-In ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 161~170
ELF, an abbreviation for Executable and Linkable Format, is the basic file format for shared libraries and executable files used in the Linux system, whereas 'Linker' copies the symbol information of static shared libraries into the symbol table in the target file generated by way of static linking. At this time, the symbol table keeps various pieces of debugging-related information including function names provided by the shared libraries, and it can be deleted to avoid debugging for security reasons by utilizing the fact that it does not directly affect the program execution. This paper proposes a method for restoring the symbol information of static shared libraries from the ELF object file in which the symbol table is deleted, and confirms that the symbol information is restored by conducting practical experiments.

Chun, Sung-Hwan ; Shin, Kwang-Mu ; Kang, Jin-Mi ; Chung, Ki-Dong ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 185~195
In this paper, we propose an efficient inter and intra prediction algorithms for fast encoding of H.264/AVC. First, inter prediction mode decision method decides early using temporal/spatial correlation information and pixel direction information. Second, intra prediction mode decision method selects block size judging smoothness degree with inner/outer pixel value variation and decides prediction mode using representative pixel and reference pixel. Lastly, adaptive motion search region restriction sets search region using mode information of neighboring block and predicted motion vector. The experimental results show that proposed method can achieve about 18~53% reduction compared with the existing JM 14.1 in the encoding time. In RD performance, the proposed method does not cause significant PSNR value losses while increasing bitrates slightly.

Lee, Joon-Jae ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 196~204
In this paper, we develope a defect inspection method for each buttons of keypad of cellular phones before they are assembled. The proposed algorithm consists of the similar color checking and its classification, font error detection, and scratch detection based on the segmentation of keypad area and font, translation and rotation processing sequentially. Especially, the proposed segmentation method approximate the pad region as B-spline function to deal with illumination change due to the shape of key button with the slant and curved surface followed by simple thresholding. And also, the rotational information is obtained by using eigen value and eigen vector very fast and effectively. The experimental results show that the performance of the proposed algorithm is good when it is applied to in-line process.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 216~224
A RAM-based Neural Network(RNN) has the advantages of processing speed and hardware implementation. In spite of these advantages, it has a saturation problem, weakness of repeated learning and extract of a generalized pattern. To resolve these problems of RNN, the 3DNS model using cumulative multi discriminator was proposed. But that model does not solve the saturation problem yet. In this paper, we proposed a adaptive weight cumulative neural net(AWCNN) using the adaptive weight neuron (AWN) for solving the saturation problem. The proposed nets improved a recognition rate and the saturation problem of 3DNS. We experimented with the MNIST database of NIST without preprocessing. As a result of experimentations, the AWCNN was 1.5% higher than 3DNS in a recognition rate when all input patterns were used. The recognition rate using generalized patterns was similar to that using all input patterns.

So, In-Mi ; Jung, Sung-Tae ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 225~236
This study proposes a method for the recognition of emergency situation according to the bimodal information of camera image sensor and gravity sensor. This method can recognize emergency condition by mutual cooperation and compensation between sensors even when one of the sensors malfunction, the user does not carry gravity sensor, or in the place like bathroom where it is hard to acquire camera images. This paper implemented HMM(Hidden Markov Model) based learning and recognition algorithm to recognize actions such as walking, sitting on floor, sitting at sofa, lying and fainting motions. Recognition rate was enhanced when image feature vectors and gravity feature vectors are combined in learning and recognition process. Also, this method maintains high recognition rate by detecting moving object through adaptive background model even in various illumination changes.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 237~248
When scenes in the real world are perceived for the purpose of computer/robot vision fields, there are great deals of texture based patterns in them. This paper introduces a texture feature representation on a coordinate system in which many different patterns can be represented with a mathematical model (Gabor function). The representation of texture features of each pattern on the coordinate system results in the high performance/competence of texture pattern classification. A decision tree algorithm is used to classify pattern data represented on the proposed coordinate system. The experimental results for the texture pattern classification show that the proposed method is better than previous researches.

Yeo, Sang-Soo ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 249~257
The emerging ubiquitous environment is improving IT technologies and the popularization of broadband Internet is encouraging creation and sharing of various contents. The contents include the concept of production and circulation of digital information/contents, in forms of characters, codes, voices, sounds, client and videos for being used on the Internet and networks. The contents are widely shared in networks and users can have a wide range of knowledge and gain the freedom of presentation from them. So now users participations are augmented gradually. However, many contents without acquiring agree of copyright are sharing on the Internet, so many problems happen in the manufacturing process of digital contents. To solve this problem, many research projects to limit contents utilization onto legitimate users and to provide secure contents protection and download, are in progress. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a secure D-CAS system (SDCS) which provides security for contents downloading.
A Power Aware QoS Routing in Multimedia Ad-hoc Networks
Kim, Yoon-Do ; Seo, Kyung-Ryong ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 258~264
In the Ad-hoc networks, the limitation on the availability of power for operation is a significant bottleneck, given the requirements of portability, weight, and size of mobile devices. Hence, the use of routing metrics that consider the capabilities of the power sources of the network nodes contributes to the efficient utilization of energy. This paper presents a QoS routing protocol that minimize the power consumed by a packet in traversing from source node to the destination node. Results obtained of simulation show that, with our approach we can reduce the power consumption of nodes and increases the life time of the network.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 265~278
Most recent E-mail systems, that are serviced in Korea, are supporting Hangul in many fields of E-mail(For example, contents, subject, attachment, etc.). However, these systems do not support Hangul in the address field of E-mail. In 2003, IDNA built the international standard in order to support multi-lingual besides the alphabetic character, a number, and '-'. So, Hangul cab be used in the domain part where is the right of '@' mark among the compositional element of the E-mail address. But, the local-part, where is the left of '@' mark, doesn't still support multi-lingual. So Hangul cannot be used in the local-part. In order to support multi-lingual including Hangul in the local-part, this paper designs and implements the E-mail system according to the EAI standardization research that it is progressed in IETF.

Kim, Tae-Joon ; Suh, Bong-Sue ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 279~286
Unbalanced traffic load offered to the nodes making up a path in the network guaranteeing quality-of-service has been known as a main cause deteriorating the capability of the path in admitting traffic flows. Several path load balancing methods have been developed to resolve this problem which used a feedback control scheme that adjusts the delay budget of a flow allocated to each node according to the conditions of available resource in the path. Because of no consideration about the probabilistic characteristics of the service quality, it is impossible for them to prevent in advance a bottleneck on the path which leads to a native restriction in the improvement of the capability being deteriorated. This paper proposes a preventive intra-path load balancing method applicable to the RSVP system which is based on the probabilistic characteristics of the quality-of-service of the offered load. The results of the simulation of the proposed method on a simple evaluation network showed that it provides the gain of 4~22% compared to the legacy one in terms of the number of admitted flows.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 287~297
Authentication is needed to use safe devices in the home network environment. In this authentication, there are an ID base form and Certification base form. In case of an ID base form, it is difficult to apply to the multi domain environment and in case of an Certification base form, because the way that contains and stores the certificate demand on devices, additional setting of the user is needed for transfer of ownership and purchase of new devices, and more. Because both ways attend an individual authentication for devices, the ways exist overhead as the frequent authentication for a lot of devices in service aspects of user needs. To arrange these problems, in this paper, the authentication information of devices can be securely stored and managed in the java card and a processing time of the authentication could be improved better then the existing technique by authenticating a group of service.

Kim, Jin-Mo ; Cho, Hyung-Je ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 298~307
The grass is one of important components that cover the wide surfaces in the application such as game or real time simulation. Actually, it not easy to render effectively numerous grasses that grow over the wide terrain. To solve the difficulty, we must find a solution to the two contradictions in terms : quality and calculation cost. As a solution to the above-mentioned task, in this paper, we propose an efficient method to represent the natural grasses by introducing fractal theory and instancing technique. Although the existing grass representation methods make use of a simple rule of applying a basic grass model repeatedly in rendering process, on the contrary we take advantage of the basic property of fractal's self-similarity and we devise a natural representation method suited to the given environment by introducing two important growth factors such as nature of terrain and quantity of light, and finally we apply a GPU-based shader instancing technique to rendering numerous grass models in real-time.

Lee, Ji-Hye ; Yoon, Yong-Ik ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 308~315
User Generated contents(UGC) interchange with internet users actively in Web2.0 environment. According to growth of content sharing site, the number of non-expert's contents increased. But non-expert's contents have a simple media just recorded. For providing actual feeling like effects and actions to non-expert's contents, we suggest Fusion Media Middleware(FMM). The FMM can increase user satisfaction by providing actual feeling. Furthermore, The content changes advanced media that has emotional impression. The FMM for providing actual feeling classify the inputted media as a scene based on MPEG-7. The FMM provide an actual feeling to simple media by inserting effects like a sound, image and text among the classified media. Using the BSD code of MPEG-21, the FMM can link up with inputted media and effects. Through the mapping BSD code the FMM control synchronization between media and effects. In this paper, Using the Fusion Media Middleware, the non-expert's contents express value as multimedia that has an actual feeling. Futhermore, the FMM creates flow of new media circulation.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 316~323
In this paper, we propose fingertip extraction and hand motion recognition method for augmented reality applications. First, an input image is transformed into HSV color space from RGB color space. A hand area is segmented using double thresholding of H, S value, region growing, and connected component analysis. Next, the end points of the index finger and thumb are extracted using morphology operation and subtraction for a virtual keyboard and mouse interface. Finally, the angle between the end points of the index finger and thumb with respect to the center of mass point of the palm is calculated to detect the touch between the index finger and thumb for implementing the click of a mouse button. Experimental results on various input images showed that our method segments the hand, fingertips, and recognizes the movements of the hand fast and accurately. Proposed methods can be used the input interface for augmented reality applications.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 332~340
This paper presents the digitally implementable methods to preserve and restore the traditional wooden buildings, which are the typical "Korean Cultural Contents," by using computer and multimedia technologies. We first define the meaning of the digital implementation of Korean traditional wooden buildings and important points to be considered. In addition, we present the steps and methods for implementation. Furthermore, we considered wooden materials, structures and Danchung (patterns of paintings on the wooden pieces) in implementing of Gongpo (wooden structure system) for both Geunjeongjeon of Gyeongbok Palace and Injungjeon of Changduk Palace by using the presented methods. We present the mechanical method to digitally implement wooden buildings by using numerical ratios of Gongpo. The other advantage of this paper over the other studies, which focus on implementation of exterior of wooden buildings, is presenting the methods how to show the complicated relations of inner parts in Korea wooden buildings. Thus, it can be practically used in preserving and restoring Korean traditional wooden buildings.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 2, 2010, Pages 341~347
The off-screen space openness of the movies converted a unilateral communication, which films have made audiences understand with, into an interactive communication. When the spectators see a movie, the off-screen space will be able to take out their positivity and induce their deep thinking. They won't accept information of the screen by manual operation but will participate in the narrative stories of the cinemas, thinking about the reality. In the paper, it shows that the motion pictures, which Jean Renoir and Michelangelo Antonioni produced, consist of the expressive forms of the off-screen space as well as a human has the ability sense, feeling, perception and memory associated with interacting between the off-screen space and audiences.
