Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 627~640
In a web 2.0 environment, as a wide range of web services are being utilized, it requires quick and convenient way to develop web applications. For this purpose, the framework has been recently introduced and has been applied to web applications. However, software quality application model has not been presented for the web application using framework. In this paper, we develop web application, online library system using a number of frameworks. The system allows users to freely share book information. In order to evaluate the system, we present new software quality evaluation model for web applications using framework. The five quality attributes, functionality, usability, efficiency, maintainability, stability are defined based on the international standard for software quality evaluation, ISO/IEC 9126-2. We also propose the evaluation metrics for the web application using framework and perform quantitative evalzuation for the online library system.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 641~650
Color image sensors (CIS) output color images through image sensors and image signal processing. Image sensors that convert light to electrical signal are divided into CMOS image sensor and CCD image sensor according to transferring method of signal charge. In general, a CIS has RGB output signals from tri-stimulus XYZ of the scene through image signal processing. This paper presents an adaptive colorimetric analysis method to obtain chromaticity and luminance using CIS under various environments. An image sensor for the use of colorimeter is characterized based on the CIE standard colorimetric observer. We use the method of least squares to derive a colorimetric characterization matrix between camera RGB output signals and CIE XYZ tristimulus values. We first survey the camera characterization in the standard environment then derive a SGL(shutter-gain-level) function which is relationship between luminance and auto exposure (AE) characteristic of CIS, and read the status of an AWB(auto white balance) function. Then we can apply CIS to measure luminance and chromaticity from camera outputs and AE resister values without any preprocessing. Camera RGB outputs, register values, and camera photoelectric characteristic are used to analyze the colorimetric results for real scenes such as chromaticity and luminance. Experimental results show that the proposed method is valid in the measuring performance. The proposed method can apply to various fields like surveillant systems of the display or security systems.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 651~662
This paper describes a method to identify objects for autonomous navigation of an outdoor mobile robot. To identify objects, the robot recognizes the object from an image taken by moving robot on outdoor environment. As a beginning, this paper presents the candidates for a segment of region to building of artificial object, sky and trees of natural objects. Then we define their characteristics individually. In the process, we segment the regions of the objects included by preprocessing using multiple features. Multiple features are HSI, line segments, context information, hue co-occurrence matrix, principal components and vanishing point. An analysis of building identifies the geometrical properties of building facet such as wall region, windows and entrance. The building as intersection in vertical and horizontal line segment of vanishing point extracts the mesh. The wall region of building detect by merging the mesh of the neighbor parallelograms that have similar colors. The property estimates the number of story and rooms in the same floors by merging skewed parallelograms of the same color. We accomplish the result of image segmentation using multiple features and the geometrical properties analysis of object through experiments.

As a tool used for video maintenance, Video segmentation divides videos in hierarchical and structural manner. This technique can be considered as a core technique that can be applied commonly for various applications such as indexing, abstraction or retrieval. Conventional video segmentation used adaptive threshold to split video by calculating difference between consecutive frames and threshold value in window with fixed size. In this case, if the time difference between occurrences of cuts is less than the size of a window or there is much difference in neighbor feature, accurate detection is impossible. In this paper, Improved Adaptive threshold algorithm which enables determination of window size according to video format and reacts sensitively on change in neighbor feature is proposed to solve the problems above. Post-Processing method for decrement in error caused by camera flash and fast movement of large objects is applied. Evaluation result showed that there is 3.7% improvement in performance of detection compared to conventional method. In case of application of this method on modified video, the result showed 95.5% of reproducibility. Therefore, the proposed method is more accurated compared to conventional method and having reproducibility even in case of various modification of videos, it is applicable in various area as a video maintenance tool.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 674~683
For the purpose of color reproduction under standard viewing conditions, recently, color display devices have developed for the colorimetric color reproduction. However the real viewing condition of color display devices is quite different from that. Therefore, it is very important for reproduced colors viewed under real conditions to match the color appearance under standard situations. There are various models that can be used to reproduce corresponding colors considering the chromatic adaptation of the human visual system. However neutral point or chromatic adaptation for the luminance level is not enough. In this paper, we propose a model that find adapting white points for the variations of the luminance levels under the same illuminant. This model is modeled by the proportion of Euclidian distance for luminance level. It is the adapting white function of the sigmoid type for surround luminance level. In the model, the optimal coefficients are obtained from the Hunt's experimental result. It is applied in the chromatic adaptation model using the neutral point of the various viewing conditions. And the neutral point can be used as the theoretical standard which determines the reference white of the color display devices.

Digitalized Image Information is variously used like to substitute or help human's visual ability. Unmanned observation Camera is useful for the preventing disaster, risk factor and object observation but it is mostly to depend on awareness for human's vision. The purpose of this paper is to show that Unmanned Aerial Camera carries out object recognition and autonomous position tracking. when the informations about a specific object are given. For this purpose, we have to solve complicated problems like change according to object movement and variation of color and brightness information with refraction, interference and scattering of light and noise from environmental factors like weather. But, as the first step we limit the scope of this study with simplified environment in this paper. Our goal is the study and experience about object recognition and tracking via simplified environment with unmanned aerial camera. We obtained successful results of this study and experiment.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 691~701
We propose a haptic rendering technology for touchable video. Our touchable video technique allows users for feeling the sense of touch while probing directly on 2D objects in video scenes or manipulating 3D objects brought out from video scenes using haptic devices. In our technique, a server sends video and haptic data as well as the information of 3D model objects. The clients receive video and haptic data from the server and render 3D models. A video scene is divided into small grids, and each cell has its tactile information which corresponds to a specific combination of four attributes: stiffness, damping, static friction, and dynamic friction. Users can feel the sense of touch when they touch directly cells of a scene using a haptic device. Users can also examine objects by touching or manipulating them after bringing out the corresponding 3D objects from the screen. Our touchable video technique proposed in this paper can lead us to feel maximum satisfaction the haptic-audio-vidual effects directly on the video scenes of movies or home-shopping video contents.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 702~709
The performance of mass segmentation is greatly influenced by an initial position of a mass. Some researchers performed mass segmentation with the initial position of a mass given by radiologists. The purpose of our research is to find the initial position for mass segmentation and to notify the segmented mass to radiologists without any additional information on mammograms. The proposed system consists of breast segmentation by region growing and opening operations, decision of an initial seed with characteristics of masses, and mass segmentation by a level set segmentation. A seed for mass segmentation is set based on mass scoring measure calculated by block-based variances and masked information in a sub-sampled mammogram. We used a DDSM database to evaluate the system. The accuracy of mass detection is 78% sensitivity at 4 FP/image, and it reached 92% if multiple views for masses were considered.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 710~721
Recently, for the advancement of embedded technology about mobile device, a new kind of service, mash-up is appeared. It is service or application combining multimedia content making tool or device and web-GIS(geographic information system) service in the mobile environment. This service can be ease to use for casual user and can apply in various ways. So, It is served in web 2.0 environment actively. But, in the mashup service, because generated multimedia contents linked with web map are new type of multimedia contents which include user's migration routes in the space such as GPS coordinates. Thus, there are no protection ways for intellectual property created by GIS web-map service users and user's privacy. In this paper, we proposed a location and user information hiding scheme for GIS web-map service. This scheme embeds location and user information into a picture that is taken by camera module on the mobile phone. It is not only protecting way for user's privacy but is also tracing way against illegal photographer who is peeping person through hidden camera. And than, we also realized proposed scheme on the mobile smart phone. For minimizing margin of error about location coordinate value against contents manipulating attacks, GPS information is embedded into chrominance signal of contents considering weight of each digit about binary type of GPS coordinate value. And for tracing illegal photographer, user information such as serial number of mobile phone, phone number and photographing date is embedded into frequency spectrum of contents luminance signal. In the experimental results, we confirmed that the error of extracted information against various image processing attacks is within reliable tolerance. And after file format translation attack, we extracted embedded information from the attacked contents without no damage. Using similarity between extracted one and original templete, we also extracted whole information from damaged chrominance signal of contents by various image processing attacks.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 722~729
Prediction problems are widely used in medical domains. For example, computer aided diagnosis or prognosis is a key component in a CDSS (Clinical Decision Support System). SVMs with nonlinear kernels like RBF kernels, have shown superior accuracy in prediction problems. However, they are not preferred by physicians for medical prediction problems because nonlinear SVMs are difficult to visualize, thus it is hard to provide intuitive interpretation of prediction results to physicians. Nomogram was proposed to visualize SVM classification models. However, it cannot visualize nonlinear SVM models. Localized Radial Basis Function (LRBF) was proposed which shows comparable accuracy as the RBF kernel while the LRBF kernel is easier to interpret since it can be linearly decomposed. This paper presents a new tool named VRIFA, which integrates the nomogram and LRBF kernel to provide users with an interactive visualization of nonlinear SVM models, VRIFA visualizes the internal structure of nonlinear SVM models showing the effect of each feature, the magnitude of the effect, and the change at the prediction output. VRIFA also performs nomogram-based feature selection while training a model in order to remove noise or redundant features and improve the prediction accuracy. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) can be used to evaluate the prediction result when the data set is highly imbalanced. The tool can be used by biomedical researchers for computer-aided diagnosis and risk factor analysis for diseases.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 730~739
One of core technology in Web 2.0 is tagging, which is applied to multimedia data such as web document of blog, image and video etc widely. But unlike expectation that the tags will be reused in information retrieval and then maximize the retrieval efficiency, unacceptable retrieval results appear owing to toot limitation of tag. In this paper, in the base of preceding research about image retrieval through tag clustering, we design and implement a topic map generation system which is a semantic knowledge system. Finally, tag information in cluster were generated automatically with topics of topic map. The generated topics of topic map are endowed with mean relationship by use of WordNet. Also the topics are endowed with occurrence information suitable for topic pair, and then a topic map with semantic knowledge system can be generated. As the result, the topic map preposed in this paper can be used in not only user's information retrieval demand with semantic navigation but alse convenient and abundant information service.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 740~753
Performance of TCP can be severely degraded in WLP-based Mobile IP wireless networks where packet loss not related to network congestion occurs frequently during WLP-based inter-subnetwork handoff by user mobility. To resolve such a problem in the networks using WLP-based Mobile IP, the packet buffering method recovering seamlessly the packets dropped due to user mobility has been proposed. The packet buffering method at a bridge station recovers those packets dropped during handoff by forwarding buffered packets at the old bridge station to the WLP device. But, when the WLP device moves to a congested bridge station in a new WLP foreign subnetwork, those buffered packets forwarded by the old bridge station are dropped and TCP transmission performance of a WLP device in the congested bridge station degrades due to increased congestion by those forwarded burst packets. In this paper, a PBM(Packet Bridge Marker) is proposed for preventing buffered out-of-profile(OUT) packets from reducing the throughput of in-profile(IN) packets of an Assured Service WLP device. From this operation, the packet losses of buffered OUT packets are avoided and the throughput of IN and Total packets of an AS WLP device are increased.

Park, Choon-Sik ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 754~762
Nowadays, email-based targeted attacks using malcode-bearing documents have been steadily increased. To improve the success rate of the attack and avoid anti-viruses, attackers mainly employ zero-day exploits and relevant social engineering techniques. In this paper, we propose an architecture of the email vaccine cloud system to prevent targeted attacks using malcode-bearing documents. The system extracts attached document files from email messages, performs behavior analysis as well as signature-based detection in the virtual machine environment, and completely removes malicious documents from the messages. In the process of behavior analysis, the documents are regarded as malicious ones in cases of creating executable files, launching new processes, accessing critical registry entries, connecting to the Internet. The email vaccine cloud system will help prevent various cyber terrors such as information leakages by preventing email based targeted attacks.
An Improved Algorithm of Searching Neighbor Agents in a Large Flocking Behavior
Lee, Jae-Moon ; Jung, In-Hwan ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 763~770
This paper proposes an algorithm to enhance the performance of the spatial partitioning method for a flocking behavior. One of the characteristics in a flocking behavior is that two agents may share many common neighbors if they are spatially close to each other. This paper improves the spatial partitioning method by applying this characteristic. While the conventional spatial partitioning method computes the k-nearest neighbors of an agent one by one, the proposed method computes simultaneously the k-nearest neighbors of agents if they are spatially close to each other. The proposed algorithm was implemented and its performance was experimentally compared with the original spatial partitioning method. The results of the comparison showed that the proposed algorithm outperformed the original method by about 33% in average.

Kim, Sang-Jin ; Park, Tae-Jin ; Choy, Yoon-Chul ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 771~779
Sketch-based interface is used more and more in developing animation contents. Particularly, there has been a system where the user's sketch inputs are interpreted and presented as live motions. In this study¸ it is to design an animated flight learning system using sketch-based interface. Most of the flights include movements in three-dimensional space and have unique and complex flight patterns. In other words, the actual flight movements not only include acceleration and deceleration, rising and falling, straight or circular flying, but also may include combinations of two or more movements as they simultaneously occur such as accelerating while falling, or slowing down while rising, and so forth. And, currently existing flight learning animation system cannot present such complex flight patterns to the pilots of aircrafts or to those personnel for air-traffic controllers. Hence, it is to be shown in this study that unit-path sketch animation method can support quicker ways to create animations to present those complex flight movements, and requires lesser inputs compared to the existing frame-based animation method. Also, the flight learning system suggested uses the flight-route realization tasks to reflect complex flight patterns, and therefore creates animations close to real as possible.

This paper presents a semi-autonomous authoring method which can intuitively create 3D game/ animation contents for unexperienced users. In particular, this method considers their convenience to provide them with easier authoring environments. The 3D game/animation contents created by this method consist of several scene components connected to each other in a logical flow structure. Thus, it is possible to easily understand the overview of 3D content description for its production and manipulate these scene components for efficient management. Four different genres of game/animation contents have been developed by using an authoring tool based on this method. According to results of a survey intended for game developers who created game contents with the authoring tool, this method is shown to save contents development cost/time as well as raise the efficiency and convenience of whole process of contents creation to the expected level.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 792~801
In this paper, we introduce a novel scene graph library for mobile platforms, called the 'Mobile OpenSceneGraph (Mobile OSG)', as a mobile graphics middleware. Our mobile scene graph library supports several nice properties, including platform-independence, extensibility, touch-based UI supports, and compatibility, by carefully adapting the OpenSceneGraph library, one of the most widely used graphics middlewares for desktop platforms, to mobile platforms. We validate the usefulness of the proposed library for mobiles with the several experimental results including real-time rendering, camera manipulations with a touch-based UI, and animations with switching geometric nodes.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 802~816
To create gesture from a new text input is an important problem in computer games and virtual reality. Recently, there is increasing interest in gesture stylization to imitate the gestures of celebrities, such as announcer. However, no attempt has been made so far to stylize a gestures using emotion such as happiness and sadness. Previous researches have not focused on real-time algorithm. In this paper, we present a system to automatically make gesture animation from SMS text and stylize the gesture from emotion. A key feature of this system is a real-time algorithm to combine gestures with emotion. Because the system's platform is a mobile phone, we distribute much works on the server and client. Therefore, the system guarantees real-time performance of 15 or more frames per second. At first, we extract words to express feelings and its corresponding gesture from Disney video and model the gesture statistically. And then, we introduce the theory of Laban Movement Analysis to combine gesture and emotion. In order to evaluate our system, we analyze user survey responses.
