Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 8, 2010, Pages 1115~1127
In order to increase the productivity in manufacturing TFT-LCD(thin film transistor-liquid crystal display), it is essential to classify defects that occur during the production and make an appropriate decision on whether the product with defects is scrapped or not. The decision mainly depends on classifying the defects accurately. In this paper, we present an effective classification method for film defects acquired in the panel production line by analyzing the intensity distribution and shape feature of the defects. We first generate a binary image for each defect by separating defect regions from background (non-defect) regions. Then, we extract various features from the defect regions such as the linearity of the defect, the intensity distribution, and the shape characteristics considering intensity, and construct a referential image database that stores those feature values. Finally, we determine the type of a defect by matching a defect image with a referential image in the database through the matching cost function between the two images. To verify the effectiveness of our method, we conducted a classification experiment using defect images acquired from real TFT-LCD production lines. Experimental results show that our method has achieved highly effective classification enough to be used in the production line.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 8, 2010, Pages 1128~1141
This paper proposes a method of moving object detection in crowded scene using clustered trajectory. Unlike previous appearance based approaches, the proposed method employes motion information only to isolate moving objects. In the proposed method, feature points are extracted from input frames first and then feature tracking is followed to create feature trajectories. Based on an assumption that feature points originated from the same objects shows similar motion as the object moves, the proposed method detects moving objects by clustering trajectories of similar motions. For this purpose an energy function based on spatial proximity, motion coherence, and temporal continuity is defined to measure the similarity between two trajectories and the clustering is achieved by minimizing the energy function in CRFs (conditional random fields). Compared to previous methods, which are unable to separate falsely merged trajectories during the clustering process, the proposed method is able to rearrange the falsely merged trajectories during iteration because the clustering is solved my energy minimization in CRFs. Experiment results with three different crowded scenes show about 94% detection rate with 7% false alarm rate.

Conjunctival injection is the initial symptom of various eye diseases such as conjunctivitis, keratitis, or uveitis. The quantification of conjunctival injection may help the diagnosis and follow-up evaluation of various eye diseases. The size of the sclera is an important factor for the quantification of conjunctival injection. However, previous manual segmentation is time-consuming.Automatic segmentation is needed to extract the objective region of interest. This paper proposed a method based on the level set algorithm to segment the sclera from an anterior eye image. The initial model of the level set algorithm is calculated using the Lab color space, k-means algorithm and the geometric information. The level set algorithm was applied to the images in which the valley between the eyeball and skin was enhanced using the hessian analysis. This algorithm was tested with 52 images of the anterior eye segment. Results showed that the proposed method performs better than those with the level set algorithm using an arbitrary circle, or the region growing algorithm with color information. The proposed method for the segmentation of sclera may become an important component for the objective measurement of the conjunctival injection.

Because it is easy to implement the scalar quantizer, it is used in various video coding systems. Although the scalar quantizer with a large quantization stepsize can reduce the amount of data, it has disadvantage that the reconstructed picture quality is poor. In this paper, we propose an efficient method which improves the coding performance by maintaining original quantization stepsize and increasing the number of quantization reconstruction levels. Simultaneously, for the purpose of solving the problem of transmitting the added symbol informations which is used to indicate the region of quantizer reconstruction level as the number of quantizer reconstruction level is increased, we also suggest the method to reduce the added informations. Therefore, for the intra-coded picture of H.264 video coding system, we generate the huffman codes for the symbol informations of quantization reconstruction regions by 4
4(horizontal 4 pixels, vertical pixels) block unit. Furthermore, for the inter-coded picture, we also generate the huffman codes for the symbol informations of quantization reconstruction regions by 8
8 blocks and 4
4 blocks within a macroblock. Adopting this method of reducing the added information by increasing the number of quantization reconstruction region, It is shown that the coding performance can be improved at the same bitrate.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 8, 2010, Pages 1163~1170
In this paper, in order to develop a remote progress management system through the Internet, we show a design method to make easy maintenance by developing the system with both the JAVA language and GoF Design Patterns. For the system implementation, we added the RS232C and RS422/RS485 communication modules to PLC(Programmable Logic Controller) in the control box which provide the real time status data of machines. Also we set up the RS232C to Ethernet converter based on wireless environment to communicate the PLC control data. We use JAVA Swing components to implement the multi-tier architecture system supported the GUI of the Applet and Frame at the same time so that the manager grasps the progress of work easily at the remote machines through the Internet. The key objective of the multi-tier architecture is to share resources among clients, this proposed system can help to develop the software to control the remote machine, and also it has the advantage that developer who wants to make a similar software can make easy to add new function reusing the existing codes.

In this paper, odor classification and source analysis methods are proposed to trace odor sources in th air at the specific place and period. It is necessary to generate representative patterns in order to classify the various odors efficiently. We, therefore, create 67 kinds of odor representative patterns measured from the main sources. considering the air mixed with various odors, several mixed representative patterns for odor sources are generated with the combination of two or three different odors. In addition, the weight of odor sources for an odor from a civil complaint region are computed using pseudo inverse method. As a result, we can trace and identify the odor sources to lead to a specific odor and the contribution of each source. The results of this study will be useful for settling the civil complaint related with odors.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 8, 2010, Pages 1183~1193
The pyramid graph is well known in parallel processing as a interconnection network topology based on regular square mesh and tree architectures. The enhanced pyramid graph is an alternative architecture by exchanging mesh into the corresponding torus on the base for upgrading performance than the pyramid. In this paper, we adopt a strategy of classification into two disjoint groups of edges in regular square torus as a basic sub-graph constituting of each layer in the enhanced pyramid graph. Edge set in the torus graph is considered as two disjoint sub-sets called NPC(represents candidate edge for neighbor-parent) and SPC(represents candidate edge for shared-parent) whether the parents vertices adjacent to two end vertices of the corresponding edge have a relation of neighbor or sharing in the upper layer of the enhanced pyramid graph. In addition, we also introduce a notion of shrink graph to focus only on the NPC-edges by hiding SPC-edges within the shrunk super-vertex on the resulting shrink graph. In this paper, we analyze that the lower and upper bounds on the number of NPC-edges in a Hamiltonian cycle constructed on
respectively. By expanding this result into the enhanced pyramid graph, we also prove that the maximum number of NPC-edges containable in a Hamiltonian cycle is
-2n+1 in the n-dimensional enhanced pyramid.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 8, 2010, Pages 1202~1211
The connection between devices in Ad-hoc network a network based on trust. Because a temporary device frequently join or leave, the authentication and security technology should be prepared for malicious device of a third-party attacks. The authentication scheme with the existing certification and ID, and the security technology using symmetric key and the public key is used. Therefore, in this paper we proposed two devices not having shared information use to generate each other's authentication ID. The use of authentication ID can establish the mutual trust and, provide security and efficiency for communication uses to generate a symmetric key.

The technologies of domestic user programs are not enough to convert address convert information, which was collected via port redirection server, to user traffic. Generally traffic redirection technology is a special purpose technology for I/O traffic via network device. L4 switch needs various additional costs and devices to achieve this special purpose. To solve this problem, there appears need for a central management of control and monitoring by centralizing traffic at one position regardless of network structure and it is necessary to realize redirection function of switch at network layer. Therefore this study offer development of traffic central control system through protocol redirection of client-side.

MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc Network)s have been researched primary at routing protocols and at the guarantees of QoS(Quality of Service) for mobile environments. Otherwise the Ubiquitous Sensor Networks (USNs) have some limitations in power energies and in processing of sensing data, as well as their network topologies are frequently changed by fading off and node failures. Thus we should redesign network protocols with concerning to energy efficiency for the USNs above all. In this paper, we focus on the protocol interface for managing for USNs based on the surveys. And then we figure the topology of USNs out and design the network protocol interface to make power saved, with data gathering and processing more efficient using our designed packet structures.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 8, 2010, Pages 1235~1244
Most emerging smart phones support capacitive touch sensors. It renders existing gesture-based interfaces not suitable since they were developed for the resistive touch sensors and pen-based input. Unlike the flick gestures from the existing gesture interfaces, the finger flick gesture used in this paper reduces the workload about half by selecting the target and the command to perform on the target at a single touch input. With the combination with multi-touch interface, it supports various menu commands without having to learn complex gestures, and is suitable for the touch-based devices hence it minimizes input error. This research designs and implements the multi-touch and flick interface to provide an effective file management system on the smart phones with capacitive touch input. The evaluation proves that the suggested interface is superior to the existing methods on the capacitive touch input devices.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 8, 2010, Pages 1245~1255
In current Web 2.0 environment, one of the most core technology is social bookmarking which users put tags and bookmarks to their interesting Web pages. The main purpose of social bookmarking is an effective information service by use of retrieval, grouping and share based on user's bookmark information and tagging result of their interesting Web pages. But, current social bookmarking system uses the number of bookmarks and tag information separately in information retrieval, where the number of bookmarks stand for user's degree of interest on Web contents, information retrieval, and classification serve the purpose of tag information. Because of above reason, social bookmarking system does not utilize effectively the bookmark information and tagging result. This paper proposes a Web contents ranking algorithm combining bookmarks and tag information, based on preceding research on associative tag extraction by tag clustering. Moreover, we conduct a performance evaluation comparing with existing retrieval methodology for efficiency analysis of our proposed algorithm. As the result, social bookmarking system utilizing bookmark with tag, key point of our research, deduces a effective retrieval results compare with existing systems.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 13, issue 8, 2010, Pages 1256~1262
The game has been rapidly evolving through various media such as computer, console game machine, cellular phone and PMP based on the advanced development of scientific technology. In terms of demand, the interest in and desire to consume the game as a way of spending people's spare time have been on the increase constantly while the level of income has been improved. Eventually, the game has gradually expanded its scope of supply and demand, has established its own status as one of the media that is scientifically-intensive and has been developed into a game industry, a large-scale industry. Unlike image media, the methods of exposure in PPL are varied in accordance with the genre of games. This study divides the causes that have influence over the effect of PPL in the game into the genre of game and the skill of gamer. The results of the experiment on how much the aforementioned two elements have influence over the effect of PPL are as in the following: It has been demonstrated that the effect of PPL could appear different according to the genre of game and the skill of gamer on the game. Besides, the genre of game that is dynamic in its screen change in the game has relatively lower effect of PPL than that is not dynamic. Meanwhile, the persons who are highly skilled in the game have higher degree of recognition and preference to the inserted PPL than those who are lowly skilled. In this regard, it has given us a theoretical ground that the fees system for PPL ads should be established variously in accordance with the genre of game and the level of online game users.
